AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Use Feature Recognition Add-in On Stl Files

Aug 1, 2012

I downloaded the autodesk inventor " feature recognition" add-in from the inventor labs website. Then, I opened inventor, went under tools, then clicked the add-in manager icon (the little plus sign). There, I saw the "feature recognition" add-in and set it to "automatic/loaded." Then I imported an stl file and tried to use the feature recognition add-in by selecting and right clicking on the part but could not find the "feature recognition" listed on the list of options. I tried the same thing by selecting the part in the history tree without any success in that way either. How to successfully download this feature recognition add-in and use it to convert an stl file to an inventor part and recreate its history tree? How do I make the  feature recognition add-in visible on the ribbon? or how do i call up this add-in so that I can use it?

I need to fix these errors without going back and starting over.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Alt Code Recognition At Command Line

May 23, 2012

I recently switched from LDD to Civil 3D 2010 and have since had problems with the command line recognizing Alt Codes when entering leader text. After the leader command is finalized, I am able to edit the MTEXT which does recognize the alt codes.  I use alt codes for various symbols and now have to edit leader MTEXT each time in order for the symbols to be recognized.  Is there a toggle or some other setting in later versions of AutoCAD that would allow recognition of alt codes at the command line?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cut Across Bend Feature

Dec 27, 2013

I'm trying to use the cut across bend feature on a sheet metal part. However, when I check cut across bend, it grays out all of the other cutout options, and only has thickness as the only option. This is perplexing to me, because I can't think of too many times I'd need this option other than when there is more than one thickness of material I need to manipulate the profile onto.

I was to understand that this "cut across bend" is for use similar to the "normal cutout" command in solid edge? Keeps the cut perpendicular to the sheet face in a sheet metal part.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mirror And Flip A Feature

Jun 11, 2013

I would like to both flip and mirror (or pattern) a feature onto the opposite side of a rectangular extrusion.

For example (assuming a rectangular solid extruded in the Z dimension), I have two counter bored holes on the top surface of the solid aligned with the X axis and I would like a copy of those holes on the bottom surface but aligned with the Y axis. If I pattern the holes rotating them 90 degrees and then attempt to mirror them, I can only select all four or the two originals. Is there any way to disassociate the rotated copies from the originals while still retaining control over their dimensions from a single sketch?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom Feature Dialog

Oct 10, 2013

Creating feature edit dialogs? I currently have working program that creates a custom pocket/cavity but I'm having trouble with the User Interface and setting up a solid structure to handle events. My goal is to mimick how the "add hole" dialog works by having the following attributes:

 - Ribbon button to bring up dialog
 - Dimensions update when the dialog text boxes are updated
 - Right click menu to edit existing features
 - Existing dimensions and other properties are loaded when the dialog is used to edit existing features

So far, I have my classes structured this way:

AddinServer (handles loading and unloading the command) ->
CavityCommand (defines the buttons and containes event handlers) ->
CavityFeature (wraps up multiple identicle cavities into one client feature) ->
Cavity defitions (draws individual cavities using more specific classes)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Get Feature List As Spreadsheet?

Aug 9, 2012

I have just inherited a project where I have been asked to supply our purchaser with a list of non-stocked fixings.

OK so far, i hear you ponder, but the designer for reasons of speed (his words) didn't add the fixings to the assmbly!

Is there any way to list all tapped hole features to an excel spread sheet so that i could then just sort and count and then be able to hilite the specific parts in inventor to find the length?

The prospect of looking at each individual part for tapped holes fills me with dread (shudder).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Depth Of Extrude Feature

Nov 30, 2012

I want to query the depth of an extrude feature in a model from a drawing file - I've got access to the feature from the drawing file, but I'm struggling to find the correct method to query the extrude depth.

I can see I can get Faces / StartFaces / EndFaces from which I could do some evaluation on - however, StartFaces.Count is 0 (not sure why) EndFaces.Count is 1 (seems logical) and Faces.Count is 9 on a simple rectangular extrusion of depth 10mm.

In reality the extrusion could be any shape, any depth and either a set depth or through all.

Am I on the right tracks with evaluating the Faces collections? Or is there an easier way to get the depth ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Combine Feature With Solid Bodies

Feb 20, 2013

I have a model with solid bodies. I have used the combine feature to make cuts outs in some plates. The geometry is complex to model so Extrude cannot be used for cuts.

The body used for the combine  can be at different angles and sizes. Due to this some of the combine features will not be needed or have no effect. This leads to the error message:

" The feature as specified did not change the number of faces (and may not have affected the part).  Accept the feature that resulted, or use Edit Sketch or Edit Feature to change the feature definition." Is there anyway to suppress this feature automatically using i Logic?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Edit Thicken / Offset Feature

Jan 23, 2013

This sheet metal model was working fine, until I decided to check it against the original AutoCAD drawing. Once I finish the "Side layout" sketch, the two thicken features had exclamation marks.

Create Thicken/Offset feature failed
00014118master.ipt: Errors occurred during update
Thicken7: Could not build this Thicken

The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result. Try with different inputs. Thicken feature is where I left "End of part"

If I tick "Automatic blending", it still works, but I want to create a new solid.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mass Properties Recalculated When Use Feature In IAM

Nov 21, 2013

To get net weight of my parts i have one template that uses the volume x density and to get the gross weight I use the real dimensions of the item (a rectangular plate  without any cutting, e.g.) and then calculate x density, this way i can get both weights, and how in the most of times I need the gross, I overwrite the MASS PROPERTIES of each part with my gross weight. It works fine because all the assemblies sum the MASS of each part (that is over writed by the gross weight).

Now my problem:

In many cases when I need to use the same part many times with just a few of different details, instead of copy the part and change it, I use the same part, and in the IAM I use one feature to make this part different (like a chamber, small extrudes or even holes). But now I realized when I do this (feature in the IAM), it doesn't sum all the MASS properties of each individual part anymore ... it recalculate all the mass with the new IAM volume (with all the features)...so, in my BOM I got all the parts with the correct gross weight, but my total mass comes with the NET weight (and considering that I need the GROSS, i got the wrong mass).

Is there a way to change the way that inventor overwrite this mass in the assemblies ? with Ilogic, or even some Inventor's option ?
