AutoCAD Inventor :: Shared Sketch Generates Sketch Doctor Error - Feature Suppressed

Sep 21, 2011

I've created a shared sketch and have used it with various features. Sometime those features are suppressed. The model works fine but the shared sketch generates a sketch doctor error because the feature that created it has been suppressed. Is there anyway to make the sketch suppressed so it doesn't trigger a sketch doctor error? Inventor 2013

AutoCAD Inventor :: Extrude Cut From 3D Sketch

Jan 9, 2013

I know my subject is somewhat mis-named, because I gather that you cannot really extrude from a 3D sketch, however I am looking for a way to accomplish what extruding a cut from a 3D sketch would accomplish.

The problem is this: I have a simple 2D sketch that I've projected onto a curved surface (imagine a square projected onto the outside of a hollow cylinder). Now that I have a 3D sketch on the surface of the cylinder, I want to use that sketch as a "cookie cutter" through one wall of the cylinder.

If I were to simply extrude the cut from the 2D sketch, the "cookie" is wider at the edges than at the center. I want the cut to be perpendicular to the projected 3D sketch at all points.

I've attached a simple example that illustrates my problem.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Depth Of Extrude Feature

Nov 30, 2012

I want to query the depth of an extrude feature in a model from a drawing file - I've got access to the feature from the drawing file, but I'm struggling to find the correct method to query the extrude depth.

I can see I can get Faces / StartFaces / EndFaces from which I could do some evaluation on - however, StartFaces.Count is 0 (not sure why) EndFaces.Count is 1 (seems logical) and Faces.Count is 9 on a simple rectangular extrusion of depth 10mm.

In reality the extrusion could be any shape, any depth and either a set depth or through all.

Am I on the right tracks with evaluating the Faces collections? Or is there an easier way to get the depth ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Extrude Sketch?

Sometimes after I have created a sketch I can not extrude it, sometimes it wont let me click on the profile, other times it will only let me cut away material not add it like I would like.  I am sure it has something to do with something fundamental I am doing wrong within the sketch, but I am not sure what.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Use Sketch From A Template For Second Extrude?

Jun 15, 2013

I'm using a template file (part with just a drawing in it) for the basis of a few parts.

In one of these parts I use the template sketch for an extrude. After that I would like to use it again for some other extrude.

But I can not reference the drawing again. Normally I can 'share'a sketch. But somehow a sketch from a template file can not be shared. How can I use the template sketch for a second extrude?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Extrude Sketch Profiles

Mar 23, 2012

I made a sketch. In order to make a hole in the middle of the "triangle", I had to create a tangent circle based on the triangle edges. And then make a new circle (to be the hole I need) and constrain it to the first tangent circle.

This way, if I change the size of the triangle, the hole I need (the inner one) will always stay in the middle of the triangle.

Anyway, when I try to extrude the different profiles of my sketch, something strange happens. As soon as I select the middle circle (not the inner one), 2 of the side outbreak's lose their extrusion.

Second question I have is why did my sketch (except for 2 blue lines) turn from blue to green after fixing loop problems?

(Screenshot’s and sketch file are included.)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Model Update After Modify Feature Sketch

I'm a new 2009 Inventor user (use mostly Solidworks for other jobs) and how to make the model update after I modify a feature sketch (e.g. I only add one more circle/hole to a sketch used for a somple extrusion, but the extra hole doesn't appear on the model). Tried all update-related commands but no luck so far. AutoCAD Inventor :: Only Allow Sketch Entities If Directly Associated To Extruded Feature

Aug 12, 2012

I have a simple ipt file (attached)

It is a simple rectangular plate with 13 holes through on a pitch circle.

I have used a "circle" to construct the "Pitch Circle" and a "line" to construct the top dead centre of the circle.

I have then added a circle to use as a hole feature and used the circular pattern to make the holes equi-spaced around the circle.

This circle is then extruded "Through All".

My question is, How can I eliminate the construction "Circles" and "Lines" from the following code, only allowing sketch entites that are directly associated to an extruded feature to be accepted?

Public Function WriteDxfSketchEntities(Doc As PartDocument, sketch As PlanarSketch) As Boolean
Dim partCompDef As PartComponentDefinition

AutoCAD Inventor :: Add Closed Sketch Loops To Existing Feature?

Nov 26, 2012

is there a way to use vb to add closed sketch loops to an existing feature?

I am trying to create a parametric template for a fan guard assembly, complete with drawings.

I am using an arrangement of circles defined using some linear sketch patterns as the cross-section of a revolved feature.  Using ilogic/vb, I want to automate the number and spacing of items in the linear pattern, and then update the loops selected for the revolved feature.

I have found code on this forum (courtesy of Curtis Waguespack) that I can use to select all closed loops and create a feature.  I can apply this code to create a NEW revolved feature, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use it to UPDATE an existing feature.

I need the feature to UPDATE rather than create new to maintain links in my assemblies and drawings.

note that i've also taken a shortcut with the arcs, and the circle. I did try to create them using the same naming convention as the lines, but... I failed to implement it successfully. Also, I can not quite figure out how to constrain all the start/end points together.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create / Edit Sketch In Assembly

Mar 20, 2012

I created an assembly of parts and then converted my assembly to a weldment. I then realized that I need to create a sketch and make an edit to my assembly. The sketch command is greyed out however. I did some trouble shooting and realized that once I converted it, it no longer allows me to make edits. Is there anyway I can get around this? do I now have to re-create the entire assembly to make this edit at the assembly level? If so this would really suck since it is a rather large assembly. I see saving as a new IAM doesn't work as well.
