View 3 RepliesAttached are two parts and an iFeature that I keep in the "Punch" folder and use as a punch. It is common that clearance holes need to turn into slots and vice versa. The centerpoint is the perfect locator for both. The problem is I have not found a good way to place an iFeature slot on a centerpoint as easy as I do an iPunch. This means I have to convert the part to sheet metal and then back again.
Is there an easy way to place a slot, or a similar slot like this with an iFeature? ie as easy as the Hole Feature or iPunch Feature?
The other thing I do is add an axis and plane thought the center points to aid in constraining. If I remember correctly it was not possible to include work geometry in an iFeature (at least with version 10)
Is there a way that the Info Center is not available ? Registry ? XML confoguration ?
It is possible to disable the communication center, but the for whole Info center I can find no way ?
We have installed Inventor on 1000 client WS and the INfo center is not needed ?
How to make a new work plane rotated at an angle to another plane and passing through the axis of a cylinder, or one of the main axes.On the plane commands, in V2013, i don't find an option for plane at an angle

How the heck do you do this once a view is placed? I had to edit a part and the origin indicator is in the middle of no where now(and is pink). How can I either. 1.)Locate the new origin for my dimensions or 2.) delet the origin and start over?

I have a drawing that has had the origin indicator hidden.The part has changed, and I need to move the indicator to the new 0,0 location.How do I show the origin indicator again, or while it's hidden, move it to the new location?
View 4 Replies View Relatedwhat would cause the origin 3d indicator in the graphical window to be enormous? I'm talking 4x normal size.
Also, in the sketch environment, the little green and yellow dots that represent sketch points are huge, and the grid has gone really small.
Have tried changing graphics mode to "Compatibility" and selecting "Software Graphics" - No change.
I'm having some fits with the constrained orbit center. It seems to me that It used to always be in the center of the screen when I would use Shift and CMB. Now it seems to be stuck on the center of my assembly/part. I know that I can hit F4 and long select LMB to re-center but I have never had to do that before the last day or two. I have uninstalled all the Beta Add ins I had installed and I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Inventor Pro 2014.
Is there an option somewhere that puts the default Orbit Center to the center of the screen?
When I pick the XZ plane to create a new sketch, then Look At it, the red origin indicator is pointing left, meaning I'm on the back side. How did I get over on the front side. Something with flip axis or something like that?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a part given to me from a customer that has ALL custom planes turned on. This file is large and has many assemblies, part, sub assy's.... too much to go thru one at a time. Can I turn all 'plane views' off at once? Why? Because I find it messy... no other reason.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI drew the first sketch. i want to insert an offset plane. i use the plane tool, mark 2 sketch entities and a plane is formed. i move it, but it moves only on the plane of the sketch, the dialog box for the distance doesn't appear.
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen in assembly mode when i right click on a part workplane there is sometimes the Visibilty option and other times there is no Visibility option ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll previous releases of Inventor before 2013 would display the name of the parameter that controls the offset value of a plane. While editing an offset plane you could see the name either in the title of the pop up or by holding your cursor over the parameter value. In release 2013 I have been unable to find the parameter name anywhere when editing the plane. I have a lot of equations in my models. Being able to track down bugs is difficult enough without not knowing what parameter I'm looking at.
Is there a setting I need to turn on/off to get the parameter name to display again?
I have a sketch on plane XY and I have another plane at an angle, which I would like to work on. How can I create a sketch on the angled plane, using the geometry from the XY sketch and which I can snap to?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis sheet metal part has two bends, and was created with a lofted flange feature on the XY plane:
It was then cut by two circular profiles on the XZ plane:
When the flat pattern is created, it seems to work just fine as long as the diameter of the circular cut is below a certain value. Once the diameter is increased beyond this value, the flat pattern returns a cryptic error and does not compute:
I know that the bend geometry does NOT pass through the bend axis, so I am left guessing at what the real problem is. I have attached the part. The part currently has the parameter called "Tank_ID" set to 500 in. To see the error, change the value of this parameter to 600 in. For me, the flat pattern breaks between the values of 512 and 513 in.
Why does the flat pattern work at 512, but not at 513, since there is no significant difference in geometry?
Possible to have more than 1 derived part in a part.
And is it possible to select on which plane and location the derived part is to be?
I have a part with a derived part but now I want to add another part to it. is this possible?
I need to accurately position a point on an angled plane, but the question is how?
I've generated the required planes, the axis to revolve the angled plane around, and of course, the angled plane itself. (See attacment)
I now need to position the point coincident to the generated axis/plane and the angled plane. I have nothing to refer to so I can't project any geometry from any face. (The vee-shaped recess is generated after the slot is extruded and its position is the resut of the breakout against the OD).
How can I do this???
In the programming I found an example to place an ifeature on a face.I've modified it to place it on a face without selectset but with features. faces. item(1)
how to place it on that face with a vertex from that face or a workpoint that lies on that face.I've tried to adapt other code on this forum but can't find it.
I have created a part in Inventor that is not on the ground plane, is there an easy way to quickly re-position this on the ground plane ?

I have what I am sure is -not very complicated- part that has a goofy intersecting angle. I have created a plane for this angle to try and do the cutout but it extrudes at the 30 deg, where as I would like to extrude that 30 deg feature at 90 deg. Is this possible?
The RED text says "Currently extruding this way" (30 deg per the plane)
The BLUE text says "Want to extrude this way" (90 deg, in line with the from face basically)

I am using Inventor 2010 Professional Student. I have drawn and extruded on a plane. I need to move this plane to a new measurement (from -45 to -47). When the Edit Dimension box appears, I type the new measurement in, but the plane wont move. I have a lot of construction sitting on this plane, but it is in the wrong spot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a one rectangular block(Control cabinet) it consists of around 100 sub rectangular blocks here problem is in my part user wants few blocks in different dimensions and different positions some time. So I created one sketch in my sketch plane then user wants more features on rectangular block then I want automatically copy and paste on same plane same sketch and same time automatically asking for dimensions(positional, length and width).

I do not know how to do that.
create a plane and mirror a solid?
I am planning to have the following workflow:
Plane creation:
Through the z-axis and at an angle of 7,5° to the XZ-Plane
Naming the plane - Mirror Plane
Turning off the plane visibility
Mirror solid:
Add mirrored solid to the existing solid
Here is a sample ao the code...
Dim oDoc As PartDocument
oDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
Dim oCol As ObjectCollection
oCol = ThisApplication.TransientObjects.CreateObjectCollection
'This does not work...
oCol.Add(oDoc.ComponentDefinition.SurfaceBodies(1))
'Here I want to create a new plane
Dim oPlane As WorkPlane
oPlane = oDoc.ComponentDefinition.WorkPlanes(1)
Dim oMirror As MirrorFeature
oMirror = oDoc.ComponentDefinition.Features.MirrorFeatures.Add(oCol, oPlane, False, kOptimizedCompute)
I have also attached a simplified part file where the code has been copied inti the iLogic browser
I'm new to Inventor, less than a month of experience learning by myself. I want to create an ifeature that uses sketches from 2 different planes. I found out how to place a simple ifeature but i'm having difficulty with the multiple plane references. I can select the 2 planes when inserting and tried using the "activate sketch for placement", but I can only reference the first feature, the second one isn't available at that point, therefore does not appear after completion.

VBA routine that will allow you to select a work plane in the browser and find all sketches that are defined by it. We do extensive skeletal modelling and our master parts consist of many sketches and sketch planes
Note, I am aware of the VBA routine that allows you to select a sketch and highlight the plane or surface that it is made off of.
I use AddByNormalToCurve method to create a work plane in a sketch 3D. Is it possible to make new workplane object to be consumed by the parent Sketch3D (Workplane.Consumed = True) as it is possible in UI in Edit mode ?

Public Sub WorkPlane_Test()
'reference to the transient geometry
Dim oTG As TransientGeometry
Set oTG = ThisApplication.TransientGeometry
'reference to the component definition

Any program to convert 3D solids to a mid plane surfaces? We need our models in this form to do FEA work on them. I wanted to ask this question before I took on the task of trying to create one myself.
