AutoCAD Inventor :: Minimum Segment Length Violation In Tube & Pipe Runs?

Jan 2, 2014

I keep getting this minimum segment length message after running tubing routes. I've already configured the tube style and entered the minimum length I want. I place tube fittings before I run tubing, so I don't include fittings/couplings in my tube style. The lengths of the segments are equal to or longer than the segment rule I entered, so I'm not sure why I'm getting this error message. I also get a message saying that a segment will violate the rule once fittings are placed, even though I've opted out of using fittings in the style. To get around this error I've been having to go into each route and edit the sketch to make the problem segments longer.

I'm in an RFA file and can't seem to draw lines shorter than 1/32" without getting the "Element is Too Small on Screen" error.  Even when I zoom in so that 1/32" is equal to the width of my monitor, I still get this error.  I'm trying to draw very shallow grooves in a mullion.  The attached shortline.jpg file show a line that is long on my screen, but to short for Revit, being drawn. how I can draw very short lines in the Family editor?

Photoshop :: JPEG Marker Segment Length Is Too Short

Sep 16, 2012

While imaging with my Canon T1i last night with my astro club I took probably 75 or 80 pics.  Halfway through the session, my battery low indicator came on, so I changed the battery but may not have turned off the camera....I can't remember.....as I continued to shoot and review the images, everything looked and worked fine.   When I returned home and got up this a.m. to review the pics, the last half could not be be opened.   I usually insert my SD card in my laptop to review first before I transfer them over.  I kept getting this error on the last half of the images I took :" a jpeg marker segment length is too short. The file may be truncated or incomplete." Is there any way to recover and otherwise save these images?   By not turning the camera off while changing batteries, could that be the reason for the error message?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Pipe And Tube Route Turns Red?

Oct 31, 2013

I am having an issue with pipe and tube routing in inventor.  I am new to it and every once in a while a route that i create turns red in the browser bar,  I also noticed that  a few of the routes have issues where the adaptivity gets turned off by itself.  I assume this has something to do with the route turning red.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Save AS Copy To DXF - Route Does Not Function

Jun 24, 2013

I am having a problem with Save AS Copy To DXF.

When I try the 'Save copy as' DXF route it does not function. If I click the save button nothing happens and if I click the option button nothing happens either. In 2012 when you click the options button you would have got the option to change the export settings i.e. all sheets etc...

I do have the option to change the file formats via the drop down box in the 'save copy as' dialogue box and dxf etc are listed!

When I right click on the flat pattern in 'Model' there is no button for 'Export' in the list that appears. Therefore I cannot get to the Flat pattern dxf export options prompt as shown in this thread.

Its obvious you should be able to save as a dxf from an inventor idw as the buttons are there they are just not working!

I am having this problem with Autodesk Design Suite Premium. Inventor 2014 will not give me options, and is having problem exporting to autocad dwg. tried a reinstall as it appears to wotk properly on other similar installed machines.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Run - Edit Route Failed

Nov 28, 2013

I've authored custom tube and pipe components, published them to library and created a custom tube and pipe style. But when I want to create a route with my custom style I get this error message "Edit route failed". The style only consists of a pipe and 90 elbow. All the other styles seem to work.

I also tried to create a custom style for tubing with bends and it worked fine so I guess it has something to do with my elbow.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Incremental Dimensions With Minimum Value?

Apr 10, 2012

I am trying to set up a dimension that starts at a minimum value and increases incrementally by 1/16" of an inch to satisfy another dimension.  I've attached a pdf showing the part and the two dimensions.  I need the overall thickness of the part to start at 1 1/4" as shown and as the width (Depth + 1 1/2") changes, the thickness will grow when the tongue of the part gets less than 5/8".  I'm guessing this is an area best suited to ILogic, but I'm not sure how to get started.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Finding Minimum Wall Thickness In A Part

Jul 10, 2013

are there any other analysis tools available to find the minimum internal wall thickness in a part?  I'm aware of the cross-section tool, but that only analyzes an area the user has already noticed.  In a prismatic part with several cross-holes and features (cavities), it could be easy to miss a thin spot that could give up under internal pressure just by 'eyeballing' the part with Hidden Edges turned on.

I guess I could try the 'unground and move the part thru a sectional plane' trick, but I think it would be too haphazard, especially if the weak point is not thru a principal plane.

Is there a tool I'm missing or maybe something that has been added in newer releases?  Maybe this is too much analysis to ask of a modeling package.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Choose Continue When Placing Balloons Or Leader Text

Jul 10, 2012

In Inventor 2012, you could choose Balloon, select a part, click at some location and the Balloon was placed and finished. Now in Inventor 2013 you have to right-click and choose Continue. The same applies, when you want to place a Leader Text (and maybe elsewhere as well).

Why do we suddenly have to make two additional clicks compared to Inventor 2012. It doesn't work, that you can press Enter instead of the additional mouse clicks.

And why is the Open Drawing moved to second level. The Marking Menu is of no use, especially not in the tree browser.

Why do you Inventor designers make such changes that make Inventor more annoying to operate compared to the previous version. It should be the other way around....like the brilliant inclusion of Open Drawing.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Derived Parts And Mass

Aug 23, 2012

have one assy comprising of a valve, made in steel, an actuator made in aluminum, total weight combined is 36 kg.

I make this assy a derived ipt.. i have tried all the output options, single solid, multy solid and the weight is not the same.. since its a new ipt has its own material, ok makes sense.. .. So i use composite, i get the correct weight (yay), but now i cant turn the visibility off on the 2d drawing, in certain pipe spool view representations.

What is the correct procedure for turning multi material assys into an ipt.. to get the correct weights and get the drawings to work properly?

I've got a sketch in a part that I want to derive into its own part and place in an assembly. I can do that no problem, but the text on the sketch is just empty boxes. Is there any way to bring the text through to the derived part?

The text is orientation information that I want in both the part and the assembly, not for permanent display but just to hover and display or switch on when needed. Maybe there's a better way of doing it if what I'm asking for is impossible.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Add-in For Derived Part Positioning?

Apr 11, 2006

We have written an add-in that allows you to specify position and non-uniform scaling while creating a derived part.

[URL]

Some potential uses of this add-in include:

1.. To simulate an iFeature where you add or remove material - use Sculpt to add and Split to remove material. Unlike iFeature you could edit the source and make the changes be reflected in the derived part.

2.. To simulate an iFeature that places a sketch - useful for designing frames.

3.. To design a progressive die - you might want to place, with relative displacements, multiple parts representing different stages (or configurations) of a formed sheet metal part

4.. To realign (rotate) a part - sometimes skeletally driven parts (for example, four-bar linkage members) are not aligned with their "natural" coordinate system, causing skewed drawing views

5.. To derive a part with different scaling factors in X, Y and Z directions, which is useful in mold design

6.. To integrate two skeleton systems that do not share the same coordinate system

7.. To create scaled sketches (this should become useable after R11 SP1)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changes To Derived Parts In 2013?

Jul 9, 2012

Most of my part files contain at least one sketch which is derived from another part file. These derived sketches do not update like they did in our previous versions of Inventor.

If you change the geometry on a sketch in the base component, the updates will flow through to the derived parts. If you add geometry, it also works. However, if you delete any geometry from the sketch in the base part, it will not be deleted in the derived sketches in the second, third, etc. parts. The 'deleted' sketch geometry remains in those parts until you go into all the parts which derive from the base part and manually delete it. This is a significant problem for for our workflow.

Is there an option I have missed that changes this behavior so that deleted geometry in a sketch will also be deleted in any derived sketches in other parts?
