AutoCAD Inventor :: Datum Identifier With Plunger Anchor Attachment
Jun 29, 2012
I am being requested that I add a plunger/ anchor to the datum identifier within/ on a GD&T feature control frame (see attached). This is per ASME Y14.5M - 1994 and Autodesk IV states that it meets this spec. I also checked with a couple of 'reliable sources' and they also stated that it needs to be there. I was hoping that it was a personnel preference/ company standard type thing.
How to change the setting to add it within the control frame generator?
Placing a Datum Target Identifier on a dwg. When your are in the Datum Target dialog box under Dimension, you have to type in a number indicating the diameter of the datum target circle. Normally you can't put in a diameter symbol before the number, but I just found out a way.
Make sure your Num Lock light is on. While holding down the ALT button on your keyboard, type in 0216 using the numeric keypad. This will put in a diameter symbol.
ALT 0216 diameter symbol ALT 0176 Deg symbol ALT 0177 Plus / Minus symbol
Another problem is, after placing the Datum Target you can't dimension to it. That can be solved by putting a sketch of a circle (phantom line) with it's diameter and locating dimensions on the dwg view. Then you can placing the Datum Target Identifier on the the circle.
A wish list to Autodesk:
Allow dimensioning to the symbol Have a diameter symbol already in the dialog box Have a option that sizes the datum circle diameter
Autodesk Inventor 2010 .idw - How do I attach a Datum Identifier symbol to the bent leader of a hole or diameter callout such that when the dimension is moved, the symbol will follow?
How to set / change the default location of the view identifier for views in an Inventor drawing. By default when I'm creating a new view this appers above the view however I wish for it to be below the view.

in inv 2012, if I create a new part with adaptivity within an assembly the datum of the sketch ends up wherever, if I break links and remove the adaptivity, is it possible to move the absolute datum of the sketch to a decent position within the sketch?
I have found after my last save, the Datum Planes of the assembly have just lengthened in two directions monstrously for no reason. I checked to see if it was an unassebled straggler but cant find anything. Is there a way of knowing why it does this.
Check attached image, the dot is a machine 20 metres high and the datum plane seems to reach the nearest neighbourhood for some reason.
When I create a parts list in an IDW for an assembly, I place it above our title block. The list seems to "snap" into place. Unfortunately, when a part is added to the assembly, the table expands into the title block. I want to keep the parts list headings at the top of table. Is there any way to make the table grow upwards, instead of down into the title block?
I'm just wondering if there's some function to add an anchor point on a path between (exactly in the middle) two anchor points. Like Object > Path > Add Anchor Points, except only between two selected anchor points.
I am creating a template for our title block. We normally will have multiple assembly called out on one drawing. So I created a parts list without headings and built the headings into the title block. The first parts list I enter will anchor to my border, but when i enter the second parts list, it will not anchor to my previous parts list like I would like.
Is it possible to attach an identify marker or title to a moving object in Video Studio X4 PRO. I video trains. As the train comes toward me in the video I would like to attach the number of the diesel and type to it and each unit behind it ,if there are any. As it comes closer the marker gets bigger and more readable then, as the diesel disappears from view it's marker goes with it and the next one does the same thing, then the next.
For example, during NASCAR races an identifying marker, showing the drivers name and car number, is applied on screen and stay "attached" to the car as it travels through traffic around the raceway until it's turned off.
I don't know if it will look good or not but I would like to try it. Is that possible or have I gone way beyond VS x4 pro's capability?
In our company we use several datums which come in multiple variants, e.g. Pulkovo, MInna and other West African ones. We frequently need to set up alternative datum shifts to comply with client requirements for exact positioning (Oil & Gas Industry). These are usually Molodensky or Bursa-Wolfe shifts.
I have done a fair amount of experimenting with the datum creation wizards, and within AutoCAD the shifts seem to work correctly, but I am puzzled that when one views the details of the Datum Transformation from the library, the transformation parameters are not shown as part of the WKT string. Also, presumeably consequently, when data from a drawing with a coordinate system based on this shift is exported to ESRI shapefile format, the transforamtion parametere are not shown in the .prj file.
I do not know whether I have missed a stage in the creation process, or if this this is a bug. It also seems odd that when viewing the details of a user-defined datum, there is no obvious clue as to what the transformation parameters are for that datum, other than finding a transformation with the same code name.
I have a profile view that shows two ditch profiles in it, for right and left ditch. They are similar in elevation, so they overlap some in the profile view. Is there a way to show one of them at a set interval below its actual datum, like say, 5'? Short of drawing in a dummy profile or expolding it - which I'm going to do shortly....
I've set the corridor's surfaces to use the corridor boundariy & the datum's overhang correction to top links & bottom links, but for some reason it doesn't respect the corridor's boundary.
Am trying to create a corridor datum surface that goes around Protruding lanes but it seems I am Short on knowledge here. the outer lane, LaneOutSideSuper has a greater thickness than the inner lane (same sub assembly) and I would like my datum surface (actually, not only the datum surface but other layer surfaces) to attach its self around the bottom links of both surfaces but it shoots from the Crown_sub to the outer lane Datum.
I have used the bottom links overhang and adding feature lines to the surfaces but it doesn't seem to cut it. Attached is an illustration of the section view. The top figure is what I hope to get and below is what i seem to get.
i created section view as in pic1. In Bands, Existing surface elevation labels at existing surface grade breaks, top of road elevation labels at top grade breaks, datum is the same. Can i add existing surface elevation labels at top of road grade breaks? (pic2)
I have a shape in illustrator CS6 that I'm trying to edit. When I try to click on a point with the Delete Anchor Point Tool nothing happens however I am able to select the point using the Direct Selection Tool and then remove it using the "Remove selected anchor points" option in the Control palette. Same issue with trying to use the Convert Anchor Point Tool.
I was wondering about how to use annotation attachment.
I am not getting how the option is used.
I am trying to attach some attachment to leader but it causes some saving in temp location (deeper in temp location) instead of creating the association to the leader.
Is there a way to attach any animated file in the drawing such that the attached image remains animated in the Drawing file also (for example animated GIF images)?
Please see attachment. There are two structure label styles in the attachment. The one on the bottom has the leader attached to the edge of the structure and the one on the top has the leader attached to the centre of the structure. How do I change the attachment point for the top label so the leader attaches to the edge of the structure as the bottom label does? Can't seem to find the parameter to change??
We have this problem at the moment with an Microsoft excel file that appears to have become stuck in the External references list, Ref C1-01-06. We would like to remove it if possible as it is now superseded (we can't change the file name unfortunately. What do we do if we can't reload, detach or bind? Its not referenced into anything else that is attached to the file, it is a direct attachment of the file that we are in.
I've attached a PDF to my drawing and when I zoom in a bit it shows horizontal bars all over the PDF. The bars show up when printing as well. This is the first time it has ever happened to me.
My PDF Underlay contrast is set to 100, fade to 0, monochrome No, and Adjust colors for background Yes.
I would like the arrowhead for the leader labaling my structure in a pipe network to attach to the outside edge of the structure. Right now it attaches to the middle of the structure and is covered by the block representing my structure.
Just a quick (but possibly hard?) question. I have a multileader set up, but I also want it to automatically include a line which spans the vertical breadth of the text at the end of the landing. It's hard to explain, so I've put an image below.
Currently it's set up as a block that can change in height, depending on how many levels of text I tell it to fit to. Problem is, if I rescale my Multileader, I'll have to go back and rescale the block separately.
Now, possible to include such a feature in a Multileader such that it autoscales and auto lengthens, depending on the height of text?
