In our company we use several datums which come in multiple variants, e.g. Pulkovo, MInna and other West African ones. We frequently need to set up alternative datum shifts to comply with client requirements for exact positioning (Oil & Gas Industry). These are usually Molodensky or Bursa-Wolfe shifts.
I have done a fair amount of experimenting with the datum creation wizards, and within AutoCAD the shifts seem to work correctly, but I am puzzled that when one views the details of the Datum Transformation from the library, the transformation parameters are not shown as part of the WKT string. Also, presumeably consequently, when data from a drawing with a coordinate system based on this shift is exported to ESRI shapefile format, the transforamtion parametere are not shown in the .prj file.
I do not know whether I have missed a stage in the creation process, or if this this is a bug. It also seems odd that when viewing the details of a user-defined datum, there is no obvious clue as to what the transformation parameters are for that datum, other than finding a transformation with the same code name.
I have a profile view that shows two ditch profiles in it, for right and left ditch. They are similar in elevation, so they overlap some in the profile view. Is there a way to show one of them at a set interval below its actual datum, like say, 5'? Short of drawing in a dummy profile or expolding it - which I'm going to do shortly....
I've set the corridor's surfaces to use the corridor boundariy & the datum's overhang correction to top links & bottom links, but for some reason it doesn't respect the corridor's boundary.
Am trying to create a corridor datum surface that goes around Protruding lanes but it seems I am Short on knowledge here. the outer lane, LaneOutSideSuper has a greater thickness than the inner lane (same sub assembly) and I would like my datum surface (actually, not only the datum surface but other layer surfaces) to attach its self around the bottom links of both surfaces but it shoots from the Crown_sub to the outer lane Datum.
I have used the bottom links overhang and adding feature lines to the surfaces but it doesn't seem to cut it. Attached is an illustration of the section view. The top figure is what I hope to get and below is what i seem to get.
i created section view as in pic1. In Bands, Existing surface elevation labels at existing surface grade breaks, top of road elevation labels at top grade breaks, datum is the same. Can i add existing surface elevation labels at top of road grade breaks? (pic2)
My problem added with pic ... I want to make volume calculate for sample road project. When I try to compute materials I cant use Corridor surface for DATUM... There is only target surface on option..
I have a client that required us to give them a surface that they could load into microstation. I have version c3d2010. I gave them a land xml file. When they uploaded it into their program, which I believe is inroads they said the contours it generation for the surface looks great in the middle, but the edges it seems to have dropped the elevations to zero.
I did make a boundary to go around the surface to clean up any errant triangulation lines. The polyline I used is at elevation zero. I don't know if this is causing that? The client thinks the inroads is forcing the edges to be elev zero. She has limited knowledge of land xml files and has never used them till now.
Something to change on her end or is it my polyline causing this?
I am trying to convert multiple Civil 3D 2011 files to Microstation XM, but when I save the files down to Autocad 2000 and then export to DGN. I cannot get the alignment stationing to show up in my files.
We use Civil 2012.Under Drawing Utilities>Drawing Settings we change International Foot to US Survey Foot. The problem is this setting appears to be per drawing. Is there a way to set it up to remember this setting....system variable I can set in the acadoclisp?
Is it possible to turn off or disable the coordinate or drawing conversion on import. I know I can turn it off in a dwg file but I want to completely disable it no matter what the setting is in the dwg file.
I have a coworker who is converting a Civil 3D drawing down to "plain" AutoCAD.
In the orignal drawing, there are wipeout frames that are turned off, but when you open the converted drawing, they are turned ON.
Is there anyway to ensure the frames will be turned off in the converted drawing without having to open the drawing? I have a theory that the AECTOACAD command must use a particular template file when converting the drawing down, and that it would be a simple matter of making sure the frames are OFF.
I received a 2013 dwg file and want to convert it to 2011. I am currently running C3D 2011. I used the DWG TrueView program and was able to convert the 2013 file to 2011, but none of the alignments, profiles or corridors converted over. How to convert a 2013 file to 2011 and get the alignments, profiles, corridors, etc., to convert over as well?
I'm would like to know about conversion for those Global Coordinate System . For example : (Country : Australia , region Perth) I have AHD PCG94 Coordinate system as follow [ 44650.59 E , 202428.59 N ] & [ 44673.43 E, 202414.57 N ] . How to convert those coordinate system to suit the object into my current drawing with MGA94 (Zone 50) with Civil 3D software ? Or AutoCAD MAP which partially integrate in Civil 3D might work with this ?
I was given a file with LDT points in it that show point#,Elev, Desc. When I convert the description turn into a number. How does that happen and how can I change it to convert the description correctly?

in inv 2012, if I create a new part with adaptivity within an assembly the datum of the sketch ends up wherever, if I break links and remove the adaptivity, is it possible to move the absolute datum of the sketch to a decent position within the sketch?
Placing a Datum Target Identifier on a dwg. When your are in the Datum Target dialog box under Dimension, you have to type in a number indicating the diameter of the datum target circle. Normally you can't put in a diameter symbol before the number, but I just found out a way.
Make sure your Num Lock light is on. While holding down the ALT button on your keyboard, type in 0216 using the numeric keypad. This will put in a diameter symbol.
ALT 0216 diameter symbol ALT 0176 Deg symbol ALT 0177 Plus / Minus symbol
Another problem is, after placing the Datum Target you can't dimension to it. That can be solved by putting a sketch of a circle (phantom line) with it's diameter and locating dimensions on the dwg view. Then you can placing the Datum Target Identifier on the the circle.
A wish list to Autodesk:
Allow dimensioning to the symbol Have a diameter symbol already in the dialog box Have a option that sizes the datum circle diameter
I have found after my last save, the Datum Planes of the assembly have just lengthened in two directions monstrously for no reason. I checked to see if it was an unassebled straggler but cant find anything. Is there a way of knowing why it does this.
Check attached image, the dot is a machine 20 metres high and the datum plane seems to reach the nearest neighbourhood for some reason.
I am being requested that I add a plunger/ anchor to the datum identifier within/ on a GD&T feature control frame (see attached). This is per ASME Y14.5M - 1994 and Autodesk IV states that it meets this spec. I also checked with a couple of 'reliable sources' and they also stated that it needs to be there. I was hoping that it was a personnel preference/ company standard type thing.
How to change the setting to add it within the control frame generator?
Autodesk Inventor 2010 .idw - How do I attach a Datum Identifier symbol to the bent leader of a hole or diameter callout such that when the dimension is moved, the symbol will follow?
I want to create a Layer Filter that excludes both Civil Layers and Xrefs.
I have created one that excludes Civil objects (Excel Civil.jpg) but when I add a filter for excluding xrefs as well the Civil objects appear in the filter again indeed all the layers are included again (Excel Xref.jpg) if I invert the filter nothing is displayed.
I have a need to convert about 14000 .dwg files to jpg, gif or bitmap for display on the web. Are there any good automated ways of doing this. We have a database that contains the drawing names and directory locations I wish to use this for converting all of the drawings.
I usually come across this situation where i have to convert PDF to DWG. now i do it with underlay and trace it approx. Is there any converter for this purpose?
I want a software to convert PDF to DWG/DXF with relative amount of accuracy.
