AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Default Datum ID On Datum Target From A To Z?
Dec 4, 2012We do not use "A" as our default datum ID.
Instead of manually changing this each time I place a Datum target can I change the default?

Jul 31, 2003Placing a Datum Target Identifier on a dwg. When your are in the Datum Target dialog box under Dimension, you have to type in a number indicating the diameter of the datum target circle. Normally you can't put in a diameter symbol before the number, but I just found out a way.
Make sure your Num Lock light is on. While holding down the ALT button on your keyboard, type in 0216 using the numeric keypad. This will put in a diameter symbol.
ALT 0216 diameter symbol
ALT 0176 Deg symbol
ALT 0177 Plus / Minus symbol
Another problem is, after placing the Datum Target you can't dimension to it. That can be solved by putting a sketch of a circle (phantom line) with it's diameter and locating dimensions on the dwg view. Then you can placing the Datum Target Identifier on the the circle.
A wish list to Autodesk:
Allow dimensioning to the symbol
Have a diameter symbol already in the dialog box
Have a option that sizes the datum circle diameter

Nov 19, 2012I have found after my last save, the Datum Planes of the assembly have just lengthened in two directions monstrously for no reason. I checked to see if it was an unassebled straggler but cant find anything. Is there a way of knowing why it does this.
Check attached image, the dot is a machine 20 metres high and the datum plane seems to reach the nearest neighbourhood for some reason.

Jun 29, 2012I am being requested that I add a plunger/ anchor to the datum identifier within/ on a GD&T feature control frame (see attached). This is per ASME Y14.5M - 1994 and Autodesk IV states that it meets this spec. I also checked with a couple of 'reliable sources' and they also stated that it needs to be there. I was hoping that it was a personnel preference/ company standard type thing.
How to change the setting to add it within the control frame generator?

Jun 28, 2012In our company we use several datums which come in multiple variants, e.g. Pulkovo, MInna and other West African ones. We frequently need to set up alternative datum shifts to comply with client requirements for exact positioning (Oil & Gas Industry). These are usually Molodensky or Bursa-Wolfe shifts.
I have done a fair amount of experimenting with the datum creation wizards, and within AutoCAD the shifts seem to work correctly, but I am puzzled that when one views the details of the Datum Transformation from the library, the transformation parameters are not shown as part of the WKT string. Also, presumeably consequently, when data from a drawing with a coordinate system based on this shift is exported to ESRI shapefile format, the transforamtion parametere are not shown in the .prj file.
I do not know whether I have missed a stage in the creation process, or if this this is a bug. It also seems odd that when viewing the details of a user-defined datum, there is no obvious clue as to what the transformation parameters are for that datum, other than finding a transformation with the same code name.

Apr 14, 2012I have a profile view that shows two ditch profiles in it, for right and left ditch. They are similar in elevation, so they overlap some in the profile view. Is there a way to show one of them at a set interval below its actual datum, like say, 5'? Short of drawing in a dummy profile or expolding it - which I'm going to do shortly....

Dec 4, 2013Am trying to create a corridor datum surface that goes around Protruding lanes but it seems I am Short on knowledge here. the outer lane, LaneOutSideSuper has a greater thickness than the inner lane (same sub assembly) and I would like my datum surface (actually, not only the datum surface but other layer surfaces) to attach its self around the bottom links of both surfaces but it shoots from the Crown_sub to the outer lane Datum.
I have used the bottom links overhang and adding feature lines to the surfaces but it doesn't seem to cut it. Attached is an illustration of the section view. The top figure is what I hope to get and below is what i seem to get.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Changing Profile In Shortcut Target
Mar 22, 2012I have just installed Civil 3D 2012.
For all previous versions I was able to change the default Profile <<C3D_Metric>> in the Shortcut Target to my custom Profile with no load errors.
When I do this in 2012, I receive a rash of errors upon load(see below), wich results in an incomplete program.

Nov 6, 2013Whenever I mport a part it has the welding texture applied to it. Where can I change it to so I don't have go around and select the faces to clear them. Changing the material has no effect on removing the texture.

Mar 26, 2013I want to changed the default visible line weight for all drawings. I just can't get it to work. I have changed my project file settings to "Read-Write", I have tried this in both the Default Standard and my own standard. I changed the "Visible (ANSI)" Line Weight, saved it, then hit "Save" on the Styles and Standards bar. It works for a document. But when I open a new document, the line weight has reverted back to the old value.

Sep 20, 2010I have a scene with an object with multiple blend shape targets. I'm not using custom attributes to control these targets (since doing that makes the Blend Shape Editor nonfunctional). I'm just directly changing the value in the channel box's 'Input' section, under 'blendShape1'. By typing in the number directly, I can get it to work with any number I want, but if I try the Maya Cntrl-drag method to interactively change the number, I'm stuck between values of 0 and 1. Is there any way to change the min and max of these attributes? Its strange that I can type in whatever I want and it will work, but cntrl-dragging does not work that way.

Sep 26, 2011I'm trying to create a scene in IV Studio using point lights. If I want to change the position of the light's target, IV won't let me.
The option is simply not available. Not in the dialog (see attached image) an not in the graphics region (clicking the glyph's).
According to the help text, it should be possible (see attached image). The problem persist in both normal lighting styles as in local lights.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Changing Properties Default Values
Dec 2, 2013changing some properties default value for 2 items i have here. I want to keep the new settings inside my dwg template but i don't find any why to do it yet.I have to modify these manually or use match properties.
THE TEXT: Has the first picture, i would like to keep the setting Line Space Style: "Exactly" instead of "at least" all the time, each time i open a new autocad. How can i modify this default value? is there a way to do it ?
THE LEADER: Has the picture, in my dimension style i use 2 mm standard closed filled arrow. BUT i like to use the "dot" style sometimes but i like to use the dot at 1 mm not 2 mm.
Is there a way to set individually each type of leader tip size ? With dimension style override it's not working for now..Or maybe if i could change the default properties value for the particular dot in a configuration file?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Extrusion By Changing Sketch Results In Errors
May 9, 2013The attached files are two sprockets. The original part has 30 teeth. I need 34 teeth.
The MODIFIED part has one of my attempts at making 34 teeth. I have tried the following with the same error dialog box (see below):
1. Edit Sketch_6 (associated with Extrusion1) by deleting all but one of the teeth lines (2 arcs and 2 lines that make up a tooth) and making a circular pattern of 34.
2. Same circular pattern, except this time I "Close the Loop" (right-click on one of the teeth line segments > Close Loop > click on all the segments until the loop is closed).
3. Same circular pattern, except this time change the resulting patterned lines into construction lines, trace these lines with arcs and lines of my own (not construction lines), and close the loop on my own lines.
When each of the 3 attempts failed, I tried deleting Extrusion1 and making a new Extrusion feature from Sketch_6. I cannot select what I want in Sketch_6 in order to make the teeth.
I'm at the point where I'm just going to take the dimensions from the circular pattern sketch of 34 teeth, delete Extrusion1 and Sketch_6, and make my own sketch and extrusion.
For the future, I really would like to know - why is it so difficult to alter features like this? Yes, I understand that Sketch_6 is not fully constrained, and on top of this I am not privy to how it was generated in the first place (this is a part file from a vendor). But it does not strike me as something overly complicated for the Extrusion feature to recognize a change in its associated sketch. This is not the first time I have encountered something like this.
