AutoCAD Inventor :: Characters In Datum Target
May 14, 2012Can more than 4 characters be used in the bottom of a datum target?

View 1 RepliesWe do not use "A" as our default datum ID.
Instead of manually changing this each time I place a Datum target can I change the default?
Placing a Datum Target Identifier on a dwg. When your are in the Datum Target dialog box under Dimension, you have to type in a number indicating the diameter of the datum target circle. Normally you can't put in a diameter symbol before the number, but I just found out a way.
Make sure your Num Lock light is on. While holding down the ALT button on your keyboard, type in 0216 using the numeric keypad. This will put in a diameter symbol.
ALT 0216 diameter symbol
ALT 0176 Deg symbol
ALT 0177 Plus / Minus symbol
Another problem is, after placing the Datum Target you can't dimension to it. That can be solved by putting a sketch of a circle (phantom line) with it's diameter and locating dimensions on the dwg view. Then you can placing the Datum Target Identifier on the the circle.
A wish list to Autodesk:
Allow dimensioning to the symbol
Have a diameter symbol already in the dialog box
Have a option that sizes the datum circle diameter
in inv 2012, if I create a new part with adaptivity within an assembly the datum of the sketch ends up wherever, if I break links and remove the adaptivity, is it possible to move the absolute datum of the sketch to a decent position within the sketch?
View 9 Replies View Relatedis there a way to auto project datum planes that are square to the sketch?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have found after my last save, the Datum Planes of the assembly have just lengthened in two directions monstrously for no reason. I checked to see if it was an unassebled straggler but cant find anything. Is there a way of knowing why it does this.
Check attached image, the dot is a machine 20 metres high and the datum plane seems to reach the nearest neighbourhood for some reason.
I am being requested that I add a plunger/ anchor to the datum identifier within/ on a GD&T feature control frame (see attached). This is per ASME Y14.5M - 1994 and Autodesk IV states that it meets this spec. I also checked with a couple of 'reliable sources' and they also stated that it needs to be there. I was hoping that it was a personnel preference/ company standard type thing.
How to change the setting to add it within the control frame generator?

Autodesk Inventor 2010 .idw - How do I attach a Datum Identifier symbol to the bent leader of a hole or diameter callout such that when the dimension is moved, the symbol will follow?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI changed the target framework for my project from .NET Framework 2.0 to 4.0, and also changed the Inventor.exe.config file to read
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
Now when I debug the ribbon tab that I am creating is nowhere to be found, but if i change back to 2.0 and debug, the ribbon tab is back.
I'm trying to create a scene in IV Studio using point lights. If I want to change the position of the light's target, IV won't let me.
The option is simply not available. Not in the dialog (see attached image) an not in the graphics region (clicking the glyph's).
According to the help text, it should be possible (see attached image). The problem persist in both normal lighting styles as in local lights.
Is there any way to export a sketch to DXF and control the target layer of sketch entities?
Solid Lines go to Layer=0
Construction Lines go to Layer=Construction
Center Lines go to Layer=Center
I am currently using
Sketch.DataIO.WriteDataToFile("DXF", strDXFOutputFile)
which send everything to layer=0
Is there a way to customize the action or target of the help button in a dockable window?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have an extensive library of parts that we consistently utilize, but we do use Content Center for hardware and routed systems components.
All of our library parts have our company ERP's item number in the stock number iProperty, and the ERP's description in the Comments iProperty.
For CC items, we have added columns for these and mapped them to the appropriate iProperty.
Everything works great except for one thing.
Many of our ERP descriptions inlude inch marks, foot marks, and the & symbol. For our normal library parts thhis is not an issue. However, CC items utilize these characters differently. The result is our descriptions come out different that what is entered.
See the example below...
How to include these characters in the CC descriptions?

I'd like to build a rule into my standard part template that takes the part number (which it automatically gets from the file name by default), removes the characters after a delimiter, as well as the delimiter itself, and sets that as a new custom property. For example, we'll call the custom property Prop1
For part 123-321-1.ipt
Inventor already sets part number iProperty to 123-321-1
I want to set Prop1 to 123-321
For part 123-321-25.ipt
Inventor already sets part number iProperty to 123-321-25
I want to set Prop1 to 123-321
As everybody know copy/paste excel file into an inventor drawing is sometimes difficult. As you can see in the printscreen a special character is not converted. I supposed it's because this special character is not in the AIGDT or is in the extended character set wich is not considered in Inventor?

User reboots computer, logs into network, opens the printer properties on one of our HP plotters, and the print properties pages show just fine.
The user will open Inventor, and attempt to print a drawing, and the print settings page shows in all weird characters.
We have applied all service packs and hot fixes. How do we get this to show normal like it does on all the other programs?
I am quite conversant with Unicode keystrokes (Alt+XXXX) for most symbols in fact I have a cheat that aids me in the correct character code.If I don't have the code I just copy it from the character map and paste it into the sentence but it gets a little tiresome after a while searching the character map for symbols.
I have on numerous occasions lately had the need to to insert the 'THEREFORE' symbol (You know the 3 dots in a triangle) into text notes on my drawings.
This symbol only seems to have a code "U+2234"..I have spent a lot of time searching everywhere for a clue as to what this keystroke sequence means.
I have my font style set to "Arial Unicode MS". Looking for the correct keystroke sequence for "U+XXXX"?
In our company we use several datums which come in multiple variants, e.g. Pulkovo, MInna and other West African ones. We frequently need to set up alternative datum shifts to comply with client requirements for exact positioning (Oil & Gas Industry). These are usually Molodensky or Bursa-Wolfe shifts.
I have done a fair amount of experimenting with the datum creation wizards, and within AutoCAD the shifts seem to work correctly, but I am puzzled that when one views the details of the Datum Transformation from the library, the transformation parameters are not shown as part of the WKT string. Also, presumeably consequently, when data from a drawing with a coordinate system based on this shift is exported to ESRI shapefile format, the transforamtion parametere are not shown in the .prj file.
I do not know whether I have missed a stage in the creation process, or if this this is a bug. It also seems odd that when viewing the details of a user-defined datum, there is no obvious clue as to what the transformation parameters are for that datum, other than finding a transformation with the same code name.
how to create a new datum conversion, but it has six parameters...It is a similarity transformation i want to put in a new configuration.
following data are:
centroid: x=453106; y=7076452
traslation in X=-179.2
traslation in Y=-386.302
scale in ppm= -832.154
ang in rad = 2.5*10^6

“Datum” in the “compute material”,
I’m not sure about the correct choice for the “datum” to proceed in plotting “mass haul diagram”
What might be the proper selection for the “datum”?

I have a profile view that shows two ditch profiles in it, for right and left ditch. They are similar in elevation, so they overlap some in the profile view. Is there a way to show one of them at a set interval below its actual datum, like say, 5'? Short of drawing in a dummy profile or expolding it - which I'm going to do shortly....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've set the corridor's surfaces to use the corridor boundariy & the datum's overhang correction to top links & bottom links, but for some reason it doesn't respect the corridor's boundary.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAm trying to create a corridor datum surface that goes around Protruding lanes but it seems I am Short on knowledge here. the outer lane, LaneOutSideSuper has a greater thickness than the inner lane (same sub assembly) and I would like my datum surface (actually, not only the datum surface but other layer surfaces) to attach its self around the bottom links of both surfaces but it shoots from the Crown_sub to the outer lane Datum.
I have used the bottom links overhang and adding feature lines to the surfaces but it doesn't seem to cut it. Attached is an illustration of the section view. The top figure is what I hope to get and below is what i seem to get.
i created section view as in pic1. In Bands, Existing surface elevation labels at existing surface grade breaks, top of road elevation labels at top grade breaks, datum is the same. Can i add existing surface elevation labels at top of road grade breaks? (pic2)
