AutoCAD Inventor :: Constructing Ribs Along Dome Surface?
Nov 25, 2011
Trying to get ribs / fins constructed along the surface of this dome - like them to be evenly spaced and follow the angled plane above. Any thoughts on best way to build this ? Repeating patern doen't work because width of fin changes for each iteration across the dome.

I'm designing a press for a skateboard similar to: Rib Press
I have the board modeled: (see attached)
Now what i want to do is generate those ribs as seen in the picture.
I tried creating a block that intersected with the board and tried to split the rib at the surface, but to no avail. I think the issue has something to do with the curve of the board in two directions, but i can't seem to get it right.
if you are having trouble visualizing what i'm asking about, look at this. I want to be able to figure out the exact shape of those center ribs to print and eventually cut out of wood.

The question is 'how to generate ribs out of surface, to machine from wood and assemble the skeleton for doing fiberglass'). URL....Someone generated those wooden ribs, machined it and assembled the shape to fill inside with stereofoam (say), and cover by fiberglass to generate mold.
I failed to find any kind of tutorial that answers "how generate such ribs out of a surface at hand".

I am trying to make support ribs on a curved plastic surface to make the construction stiffer for a snow puncher.
(Just like on the attached picture, "pic 1".)
But I am having trouble doing this over the curved surface towards the top end of the rib.
As is now I sketch the shape of the rib in both ends and loft it over a sketch (see attached picture, "pic 2"), and then revolve to get the ends.
But this gives problems, result is not good and it's very time consuming.
If this was on a flat surface it would be easier, but now I get a lip along the loft and along the revolve on the top end of the rib.
I'm using Inventor Professional 2013 Student Version.

Just wanting to know opinions, for sectioning of views, typically ribs & webs are not sectioned, so extra work is involved in creating views to meet NZ & Australian standards, is it feasible for Autodesk to have it so that if a rib feature is created in a model, this is not sectioned in a section view of a part (much like parts can be turned off for sectioning in an assy view)

How better to represent this shape - its a dome, which the height is a parameter (elispe), and the fins coming off the top of the dome are supposed to be angled (thicker at the bottom then the top), and the height of the fins needs to increase as they move towards the center.
I created a dome with a repeating pattern of fins but having trouble getting the varying thickness of each fin along with the varying height - the whole part I'm wanting it to be a thin wall shell that can be cast in aluminum and then cleaned up with cnc -

I need to create several domed solids (as different parts) based on 2D sketches of various shapes. I am trying to emulate domes that you might creating by pouring thick resin.
Using this forum I have found that you can do this easily using Loft to-point, then use the Conditions tab to get the dome height/shape set nicely.
The only problem is when the 2D shapes have a corner that is too sharp - then it leaves ridges on the domes - like the arrows show on this example - which is based on a simple rectangle with 0.5m radius corners:
I found one thread on this forum that said to use Delete-Face, then Patch - but the I couldn't get the patch to leave nice smoothed edges - and without bulging.

I am relatively new to AutoCAD LT and I am constructing floorplans and measuring the area in m2. My problem is that my areas are not adding up correctly. We are investigating possible future redesigning of units, and although the outer boundary of the building is the same, when I add up the individual units this total area does not add up correctly. While trying to figure out what was going on I traced one unit exactly on another layer and compared areas between the two identical polygons....and they have different areas!?!?!?

Constructing a grid (centers) with letters and numbers,I follow to set a grid for a plan (All what I need here is a lisp file that provides serial numbers and letters for the grid):
-Grid (centers) are provided to the existing columns
-Circles are plot at the end of these centers to accommodate labels
-Numbers & letters labels are provided
-Numbers and letters are edited to put them in serial order. Here is the issue, as serial number and letter is done manually, then this is a source for errors!
The attached lisp file does do this sort of work but doesn’t allow choosing the direction of numbering lettering! In the same plan, if I need to have the numbers to start from right (instead of starting from left) then this is impossible using that lisp. This is the only part of the code that needs to be enhanced. Also, the “auto number” command does the same thing but work with numbers bit not for letters.

how I can add more volume to curved object surface? Say for example I have a plastic cup.You can think of this as cylinder object ,which was the shelled out using the shell tool and then had its base sealed.
Now at certain parts, I would like to increase the thickness and then blend it the rest of the surface(may be chamfer its edges) .
At certain parts on curved surface I would like to add an extra mm, I think if the surface was flat I would just sketch the shape, then extrude it by few mm and smooth the edges by doing a chamfer
But how can this be done on surface that is curved? Or multi curved for edges?

I need to construct an arch in revit but Ive only been able to make a curved beam in the wrong plane. Whats the best way to make an arch so that it would look like a straight beam in plan view?
It needs to connect to ground level in two places and have a specific height if thats relevant.

We received a surface model from a vendor that I have patched up as best I can, it still has one hole that I can find that I haven't been able to fill. Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.
I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....

Just doing my normal practise in Illustrator. Ive came across designing a dome sphere shape. And Im using the 3d revolve techniqe, So I have my symbol to map onto the 3d elipse. but towards the top of the sphere the symbol tends to get distorted, and it looks aweful. So I also tried another technique to envolope distort with top object but its hard to achieve making it look 3d, because the sphere faces dont go around.

I have a specific requirement which is to apply an image, pattern or text to a 3d dome. The dome is will be in two half's and layed flat in 2d then printed off with the design so that when the two halves are joined together the image or pattern matches across the seam. Is this even possible?

Having a time getting ribs to align 2m below top of ridge beam, and connect to curved wall below. I created one, then arrayed, but the radius changes at each 2.5 degree interval. I don't think I should have to calculate the % radius change to get the beams to do this. Some constraint button maybe?
Not sure if editing a wall profile is the best way to model this, but it's working.

Did something change in 2013 as far as the way surfaces are displayed in an idw? the surfaces always always had to be "included" in a idw view. now they come in as regular geometry.
