Illustrator :: Creating A 3D Dome Shape?
Aug 29, 2013Just doing my normal practise in Illustrator. Ive came across designing a dome sphere shape. And Im using the 3d revolve techniqe, So I have my symbol to map onto the 3d elipse. but towards the top of the sphere the symbol tends to get distorted, and it looks aweful. So I also tried another technique to envolope distort with top object but its hard to achieve making it look 3d, because the sphere faces dont go around.

Jul 16, 2013I was asked to make a couple fantasy maps that look hand-drawn. It would be really cool if I could make an isometric mountain brush that puts a different mountain down every time I click it, or a randomized series of mountains along the brush stroke if I need a range. I thought some of the special effect brushes did this, but it turns out they just randomize the rotation in CS6.
On a related note and seemingly more unlikely, is there a way to have a two colored brush that uses foreground and background? If above mentioned mountain brush consists of ink-like lines, it would be useful if the mountains came in already filled so that they cut out the lines of whatever mountain is behind it.

Sep 15, 2007As you now can make EPS documents from photoshop and keep the vector shapes as vectors, it would be nice to be able to use old logos you have that are in eps or illustrator format and make shapes out of them so they also can be included in a Photoshop EPS.
But I can not see that there are any options to add eps ot illustrator files to the Shapes, and once a eps is opened in Photoshop it is rasterized.

Aug 20, 2004I'm making a poster for a friend of mine, and he wants the earth to be heart shaped.
I have a picture of the earth, opened in photoshop. My question is, how do I make it heart shaped.
I tried creating another layer, and using the custom shape thing to create a heart, and then tried clone stamping the earth pic into the heart, but it didn't work. The error I got was;
"could not use clone stamp because content of layer is not directly editable"
Is there a way to make the earth into a heart shape?
If this is the wrong forum, please let me know, and direct me to the right forum.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dome With Fins Construction
Nov 22, 2011How better to represent this shape - its a dome, which the height is a parameter (elispe), and the fins coming off the top of the dome are supposed to be angled (thicker at the bottom then the top), and the height of the fins needs to increase as they move towards the center.
I created a dome with a repeating pattern of fins but having trouble getting the varying thickness of each fin along with the varying height - the whole part I'm wanting it to be a thin wall shell that can be cast in aluminum and then cleaned up with cnc -

Mar 14, 2013I need to create several domed solids (as different parts) based on 2D sketches of various shapes. I am trying to emulate domes that you might creating by pouring thick resin.
Using this forum I have found that you can do this easily using Loft to-point, then use the Conditions tab to get the dome height/shape set nicely.
The only problem is when the 2D shapes have a corner that is too sharp - then it leaves ridges on the domes - like the arrows show on this example - which is based on a simple rectangle with 0.5m radius corners:
I found one thread on this forum that said to use Delete-Face, then Patch - but the I couldn't get the patch to leave nice smoothed edges - and without bulging.

Nov 25, 2011Trying to get ribs / fins constructed along the surface of this dome - like them to be evenly spaced and follow the angled plane above. Any thoughts on best way to build this ? Repeating patern doen't work because width of fin changes for each iteration across the dome.

and then rather than a point at the bottom imagine a flat extra line (so it then has 6 sides rather than 5)
I can make a 6 sided shape no problem, but it always has equal length sides when I first produce it,
So I goto
Transform>skew
(as I would image I could change its shape with) it just never looks right.
I take it I either want to drag the corners in and out or to perhaps input the details of size/length/angles etc (but I imagine this will take too long).
It is even possible to make this image in 1 go?
