AutoCAD Inventor :: Beam Is Becoming Skewed / Distorted In Assembly

May 1, 2012

I'm Alex and I am new to Inventor. We just switched to Invetor From CAD and have been learning as i go mostly. I have been experiencing problems that are leading to major setbacks due to requireing me to redraw multiple items.  With my job we have to use wide flange beams and square columns etc..I'm able to draw the indidviual parts and at times have no problem with anything being offset, crooked, skewed or anything. But I find that I'm doing something in the assembly process that is causiing my parts to become skewed/distorted in the assembly and thus also on my view layouts for prints.

AutoCAD Inventor :: FEA And Beam Column Calculator?

Mar 18, 2012

When I try to calculate bending moment stress thru "Beam and column calcultor it shows an error that is Wk and Jk is missing. Ok that is fine. If we put values for both we will get the answer. Because I have come to know thru inv discussion that many material in the CC do not have these values.

Now my question is when we insert a part for example from content centre (CC) and do FEA analysis on this part. It shows some values like deflection, stress etc etc. How is that possible? one side it is not doing in the beam calculatio but other side in FEA it is doing that.

It means we are not going to rely upon these results in the FEA. It is the same CC, same inventor, how should be trust the result in FEA.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Simple Supported Beam In FEA

Jun 27, 2013

I have a beam that is simply supported and I am needing to do FEA analysis on it. Simply supported on the ends with a load in the middle.  Hand calculations show deflection is 2.256in.  FEA shows delfection as 1.247in.

I think the problem is the constraints that I have placed on it.  I have one fixed constraints at each end.  One of these needs to be fixed and the other needs to be able to move horizontally.  How do I set this up to get the correct results?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Add Notch And Gap Of 1 Mm To Connecting Beam?

Oct 3, 2012

As i discovered, frame generator is a very handy tool to make a frame, and to connect beams to each other.

For a customer we need to build a large frame, The outer beams are connected directly to each other. The beams inside the outer frame need to have a gap because of mounting and welding.

What i am looking for is a kind of tool, where i can add a notch, and after the notch, shorten the beam with 1 mm at each side to make a gap, which is needed for welding.

Inventor gives an error if i add first a notch followed by a Lengthen/Shorten command. How to add a notch and a gap of 1 mm to a connecting beam?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing Dimension Of Beam With Two 45 Deg Cuts

Sep 20, 2013

I have recently drawn a steel construction, and I am now in the process of making the drawings. A problem that occurs is the length of beams used for bracing. When I click the two outer points, the lower dimension in the drawing appears. This is the length of the line between the two points. To be able to dimension properly, I have made a sketch with a straight line, which is perpendicular to one side of the beam. This has been used, with the point on the opposite side, to find the true beam length (and is showed as the upper of the two dimensions in the picture).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Display The Section Property Of A T Beam?

Is there a way to display the section property of a T beam?  Specifically, I'm looking for the second moment of area in units of in^4 (Ixx).  iProperties provide me with the mass moments for the axis in units of lbmass in^2 under the physical tab (global properties).  I'm sure this information is somewhere, I just can't seem to locate it.  What am I missing?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding New Material To Beam For Frame Analysis

Jun 14, 2013

I am trying to run a Frame analysis on a beam structure. I wanted a specific yield stress for the components that make up the beam. So I created a new material and changed the yield stress and change my beam components to that new material. However when I run the simulation the yield stress is not what I made it. Is this allowed?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Beam And Column Calculator Not Finding All Values

May 31, 2012

I am having trouble using the beam and column calculator in Autodesk Inventor.  When I choose the beam that I want to test all the dimensions are not being put in automatically.

This is happening with most types of beams that I import from the CC the angle (6X3-1/2X3/8) that I am trying to test is getting no Wx, Wy, Wk or Jk. and the I beam (W6X25) is not getting Wk and Jk.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Beam / Column Calculator / Changing The Angle Of A Distributed Load

Aug 20, 2012

I am using beam/column calculator in the frame generator in inventor 2010 suite.I have a beam being used for a flight of stairs it is positioned 40 deg above the 'floor' or my xy plane in my assembly.I want to place a distributed load acting as if there were several people stading on the stairs at one time so in the direction of the z axis of my assembly.
The problem I am having is I try to change the angle of the distributed load but it only allows me to change the x and y components of the load.

a) change the angle of the laod in the Z directions

or

b) change the cordinates in beam itself so the x axis is along the length of the beam instead of the z axis.

I have tried adding a UCS to the beam part but it still wants to choose the length of the beam as the z axis.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: ViewCube Skewed From WCS?

Sep 27, 2012

I've got a strange problem with my ViewCube.  My screen is showing the world ordinate system as it should in the standard plan view ( X horizontal,Y vertical); however, my ViewCube is skewed to the right about 30° (top view and rotated about 30° right). It is set to orient to the current UCS and the current UCS Is World. If I use the ViewCube to change the setting and orient it as top view orthogonal (north straight up) my view (UCS World) gets twisted left by about (not exactly) 30°.Am I missing something or is this abnormal ViewCube behavior?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Assembly Has Double User Request At Inserting In Assembly

Sep 18, 2012

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.

1. Start a Rule after open document.

2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.

3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.

4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component

5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter

Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:

1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive

2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive

It don't work with the following situation:

- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault

Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.

I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.

change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Assembly Styles Don't Translate Into Other Assembly Files

Feb 9, 2012

I have encountered a problem with the Tube and Pipe styles.

As you can see, I have a rack assembly with a custom tube and pipe style. A wire as a tube in orange, and a tube support in white. Both have their seperate colorations at a style in the tube and pipe styles editor

When placing the rack assembly into the main assembly, it reverts to the coppor coloration I changed from the original style.

Steps I've taken:

Exported the styles .xml and Imported the styles into the master tubeandpipe.iam

Imported the user created .xml styles into the main assembly file nothing seems to work

AutoCAD Inventor :: Find Interior Volume Of Assembly By Subtracting Assembly From Block

Apr 23, 2012

I am trying to find the interior volume of an assembly (when am I not?!?!) by subtracting the assembly from a block that surrounds the most of it.  Somewhere the assembly has a "leak" and I have been trying to use the Cross Section Analysis to track down where the inside lump is connected to the outside lump to be subtracted.  Is there a less time consuming way to dynamically drag a plane across and get cross sectional views?

Even better is there a simple way to animate the analysis plane moving across the block so I can hopefully just watch and pause it when I find a leak?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Make Sub Assembly From Parts From Main Larger Assembly?

Oct 31, 2011

My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.

When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.

I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.

I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.

In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

Illustrator :: Specific Colors Skewed When Exported

Jul 2, 2013

I'm working in a CMYK workspace on a vector graphic with multiple shapes. The above photo is a portion of the graphic as it appears in Illustrator. There are only three color swatches being used.

When I export the file to a PNG, this is what happens:

The two shapes that make the creases of the hand come out a dull color that looks as though the opacity was lowered. I'm using the exact same color swatch for these two shapes as I am for the other blue areas seen in the photo. I've even tried to retrace the two shapes entirely, but I had the same result. My guess is that it has something to do with the yellow area, but I don't understand why it would be having trouble when the yellow shape in the bottom-left corner functions normally when a blue shape is placed in front of it.
