AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Scale Two Point Symbol Parameters?
Nov 5, 2008
I need to scale the trunk and canopy on importing of a points file. I can scale one parameter through the description keys (So i have been doing the canopy) but would like to do both. My code is Tree 0.5 10. Parameter one being the trunk diameter and parameter two being the canopy size.
We have been bringing points directly into a 2012 Civil 3d drawing using the same method for quite a while. We use a numeric descriptor code and the points are filtered correctly. In this particular drawing, one description code was singled out and "locked" in the drawing. The points and symbol show in the drawing slightly muted but when I try to edit the points I am unable to do so. I have tried the "unlock" command with no result. The symbol displayed by the point number is a red circle over a pencil.
I have created a new point style in a new drawing that I am not familiar with. When I am in model space the points are HUGE, when I am in paper space they are the 2mm that I want them to be.
I think there was a scale setup somewhere but I cannot seem to figure it out again.
I am trying to have a block scaled on import baised on the elevation of the point. I already use description key sets to scale blocks in import to parameters added to the code libary, for example; "Pole 0.31" draws a circle with a diameter of .31 meters.
Is there a way where I would be able to scale a block on import based on the elevation of the object? For example, a point's elevation is 1.7m, so on import it would scale a block by 1.7 on the x/y axis. Ideally if I were to modify the datum of the points the blocks would automatically scale, but that is more of a pipe dream.
We import the data from a trimble r8 rover and convert the file to a FBK file before importing the survey data.
Modifying the point size/text size assigned at particular annotation scale,
I’m wondering how the point size/text size assigned at particular annotation scale can be modified.
For example, in the attached screenshot, the point size assigned at the annotation scale of 1/1000 is big and I wanted to make it a bit smaller at that scale.
I am trying to create a sketch symbol with info about the first view on a sheet. It seems to work fine with any of the properties built in, but I am trying to include the scale. There are lots of posts about putting scale in a title block, but I can't seem to get the same code to work for a sketch symbol.
I'm using two small (JPG)images in a sketched symbol. But when I place the sketched symbol on a drawing, with another scale than 1 : 1, the images won't scale with it. For example, the images will remain outside the sketched symbol when scale is 1 : 2.
How can I make sure the images inside the sketched symbol scale with the symbol?

I create a set of points in a drawing and create each point as a block reference containing the point, text and probably something else. Also I would like to use different symbols for points and each of the symbols is defined as a block definition, and for each point I create a block reference according to the symbol type. The question is if is there any way to "combine" block definitions/references? I mean, I have common block definition for all points, whis defines somethin common for all of them. Also I have different symbols for each type of points and each symbol is defined separately as a block. But when a final point is created (containing common definitions and type-dependent symbol) I want to have it as a single block.
I have imported a path of GPS points and have them mapped in autocad where I want them, what I now need to do is place a symbol (a circle with an M in the middle of it) over each dot. I have the symbol as a separate layer but know no easy way to add this symbol to each dot so that the dot is in the centre of the circle. I can simply copy and paste the symbol and drag manually to each dot but this will take forever as there is over a thousand dots and accuracy of the dot being centered would not be spot on.
When i edit the sketched symbol "Work Stages", i copy the line which the the arrow points at, but with it goes the green insertion point, and i can't delete it.
Are there any neat tricks to scaling a DWG inside a block with parameters? I would assign a scale factor parameter to Instance Scale but as I can't I'm looking for a workaround.
I have a some 2D elevation trees that I want in my 3D tree block and alI just want to control the height. The problem is that if I explode the DWG in a family everything just disappears .
am in the process of setting up a standard file for all designers to use our local office. This file will have most of the styles created for profiles, alignments, surfaces, profile views, etc... as mostly specified by the customer and industry standards.
I am having trouble maintaining the correct annotation scale in the viewport in paperspace and when plotting.
The attached word document has 3 figures. Fig 1 shows the correct viewport scale and correct annotation scale. Fig 2 shows how the annotation scale abruptly changes during the plotting process. This abrupt annotation scale change sometimes happens during the regen process or when I switch from layout to model space and back to layout. The annotation scale goes from 1:1 to 1:40 just as in the viewport. This change in annotation scale is not supposed to happen because I want to preserve a certain plotting height for my text versus a viewport scale by using various annotation scales.
I have researched the procedures for annotation scale and have not found any info related to this "abrupt change in annotation scale".
Curiously , this abrupt change in annotation scale does not happen if the text does not belong to any styles within Civil 3D. Stand alone text stays at the correct annotation scale and is not affected in the same way.
I have a drawing with several layouts, and in one particular layout only, I want the text to be smaller than the annotation scale would dictate (the viewport is 1"=300', but I want the text to display at 1"=50' annotation scale).
I tried selecting the viewport and changing the "annotation scale" property to 1"=50', then the "standard scale" property to 1"=300'.
Strangely, this seems to work for a bunch of MText objects I have in the drawing, but it won't work for an alignment station label group or for a particular linetype...for some reason, those two things insist on having their annotation scale equal to the viewport scale.
I tried messing around with the alignment station label group's style but couldn't figure anything out. As far as the line/linetype, I'm completely at a loss why that one wouldn't change.
I've dynamically placed a symbol on the stage at runtime. Per user input, I'd like to adjust the scale, position, etc. of this symbol (which is just a white sphere that bounces on using the animation in it's own timeline).
How do I address scale, position, opacity, etc. attributes of my symbol via the code, and where can I find a good, solid reference on syntax? I keep bouncing into jquery libraries, which I don't yet really understand how to implement. I'm missing that reference manual that defines all the functions we have at our disposal.
Civil 3d 2012..I used 3d orbit, it crashed. My points, point groups and newly updated description keys are gone.I have looked at all my backup files etc, and they do not want to display.
Im still new to Civil 3D and i would like to know how to connect inported points using 3D polylines. I imported my points from Excel in a PNEZD format. How do i get the 3d poly line to snap to my points so I can Connect them? someone mentioned using a feature line to connect the points but im not sure how or what that would do.
I have a database of points I am trying to import, and the point data for each point includes a hyperlink. I've created a set of custom User-Defined Property Classifications for all the data types in the point database, and I've created a point file format to use to import the points.
It's a database of existing curb ramps, the data includes things like widths, slopes, some text, and a hyperlink to the Google Streetview at each ramp. I've created a custom point label that will show the data I need to see at each ramp.
All goes great except that the import fails because of the hyperlinks. I've tested it by removing the hyperlinks from a small test portion of the data set, and the test points are then successfully imported. I suppose I can delete the hyperlinks from the entire database, but if there is a way to include the hyperlinks in the point import I would prefer that.
In uploading the Point input data into the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 software program, is it possible for me to add more Point Attribute items after Point Number, X, Y, Z? I need to have the chemical results/data attached to the (sampling) Point that has the Point #, X, Y, Z - like Point Number, X, Y, Z, Arsenic, Lead, Mercury in the input .txt (or .csv) file.
How do I scale a mapped symbol without going into the extrude/bevel palette? I just want to take the 3d art and scale it up. I don't want it to just scale the object, I want it to scale the mapped symbol in the object as well.
How to set a default point style for point groups? Whenever I import survey points, I always put them into their own point group, so I can display each day's worth of survey data differently. For some reason, the point style always defaults to a certain style (our control point symbol). I'd like it to default to Basic, so I don't have to change this every time. Is it a template drawing setting somewhere?
First time importing into 2012-have csv file that I imported. Coordinates land in right spot. Local system-No transformations/State Plane zones attached. When I look at them with tracking everything is okay. When I export the points they are the same I imported.
I am trying to get point 1234 to show a label that says Point #1234 and then in a grading plan have that same point show up as a spot elevation. I have tried making two point groups "Point #" and "Spot Grades" which include the same points in them with two different label styles for each group, however the point seems to only want to take one label style at a time.
I am currently using Civil 3D 2011 and 2012 but soon making the jump to 2013.In my project I want to able to present a 3D-object from Civil 3D 2011 to Navisworks, eg the body of a road. I am doing this currently with the add-on program from Autodesk Labs named Corridor Solids. The several different 3D-objects that represent the different layers of the road body needs to have a certain set of parameters. For instance, Name, Dimensions, Material and so forth.
Currently, the only thing that I can present in Navisworks is the layer name that I associate to that object when I export it from Civil 3D with Corridor Solids. Is there a way, in vanilla Civil 3D or perhaps an add-on program that I can use to associate more parameters to a solid?
