AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing Font Styles
Mar 19, 2012I am trying to figure out how to set my drawing so that all of my usual text styles such as Leroy etc. are available.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to figure out how to set my drawing so that all of my usual text styles such as Leroy etc. are available.
View 1 Replieswe have some styles to import into our drawings and when we try to import them, we get
INTERNAL ERROR: !dbobji.cpp@8749: eNotOpenForWrite
We don't have a functional work around for this yet. We're using C3D 2014 (IDSP). We can get this error importing styles into some existing CAD files, but not all. We can create a brand new, blank drawing and attempting to import these styles will cause the error. The error occurs during the 'verifying imported styles' progress bar in the lower left.
We thought we were getting somewhere when we exported to dwg 2013 format and opened that and we could then import styles with no issue. Unfortunately, in exporting to dwg 2013 format, we lose all of our surface and point data. Doing a saveas to 2013 apparently does nothing more than just save the drawing and that will still not allow importing of styles.
how to get our style templates to successfully import into all of our CAD files.
Let's say you created some Label Styles, and want those Label Styles to be available in another existing drawing.
Do you have to insert the drawing (which has the desired Styles) into the existing dwg? I tried DesignCenter, but it does not seem to have the ability to import Label Styles or Point Label Styles.

How do you apply certain contour label styles to certain surface styles (i.e. When I have an existing surface i want the default contour labels to be an "existing contour" style). Right now the default is a "finished contour" label style for all surfaces.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from AutoCAD LT 2005 to AutoCAD LT 2012. I commonly used a font that, on the 2005 version, was called a1.shx. It has been replaced, on the 2012 version, with archstyl.shx. When I go to "Manage Text Styles", under the "Font Name" there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it before the font name "archstyl.shx". I am assuming this means that the font is not currently available on my system because it is replaced with the simplex.shx (which I read was the default alternate font under "substitute fonts" in the users guide). There is not a font style on my current system that suffices as a replacement to the font I used on the 2005 version of AutoCAD LT. Is there anyway to import the old font to AutoCAD 2012? Is there a way to put new fonts on my system so that I can find an adequate replacement?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do I change the font styles of multiple mtext's.
Select all the boxes, type mo for properties, then change the style in the properties window. To make this simpler in the future I put all the text boxes in their own layer so I can use qselect to select them all quickly.
I am using Adobe Photoshop 6.
to save font styles that you have made so you don't have to make them every time you want to use them.
Certain font styles in Illustrator are not showing up, Arial bold italic, for instance. Arial bold and Arial italic work, but I cannot select both. Photoshop and other apps display it without problem. I have re-installed the font, cleared my system font cache (Windows), and even tried putting the fonts into the "fonts" folder. Still no luck.
I'm not sure if this is related but when Times New Roman is selected I get a strange rounded font that is definitely not Times New. only Illustrator is affected.
Illustrator keeps crashing every time I try and change font styles on a piece of copy.

I am placing a Word document into InDesign CS6, and no matter what options I choose in the import options, the font styles are not imported into InDesign At the same time, InDesign CS3 imports all the styles perfectly from any Word file.
I see numerous redundant copies of every font family style listed when I select a font family STYLE of any typeface, such as Helvetica or Arial, for example.
Throughout the day the list increases copies of each style exponentially by the hour. At the end of the day I am scrolling through 98 copies of Helvetica Bold to get to the next style, like Black. There should only be one Helv. Bold, one Black, one Condensed, and so on.
My fonts are cleaned and organized frequently with any corrupted fonts being removed immediately. I use FontExplorer X, Font Doctor and other type apps to manage fonts because FontBook is still retarded.

I'm perfectly happy with the TrueType font (BankGothic Md BT), but all the style settings change to the T1 equivalent every time I close, and when I open the file again the T1 text does not show up. I can go through and reset all the styles, then re-apply them, but it wastes a lot of time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm in the process of upgrading a project from C3D 2011 -> 2012. As a part of the upgrade process I'm doing some drawing cleanup such as purging unused layers/objects, purging regapps, deleting unused scales and finally taking advantage of the Styles Manager in 2012 and purging unused styles.
However, I'm noticing that almost all of my styles are coming up as "unused" unless they are attached to drawing settings, even though there is clearly objects in that drawing using those styles. I noticed this was happening when after running a purge my road profile lines were disappearing because the style no longer existed.
The items that have styles attached are DREF'd into the drawing and are not "live" objects in the drawing, if that makes any difference.
We did the upgrade last week and I am trying to use the drag and drop to bring styles and description keys across. Done it many times between 10 drawings. I am opening 2 drawings-one from 10 with everything I want and one in 12 to be my template.
Problem is I am only seeing one the current drawing when I click on TOOLSPACE.
I may not be using styles as efficiently as I should. I always seem to be creating styles to meet different circumstances. As shown below if I have any text that can have an arrow, directional or dragged state and a mask, I always end up creating more styles for times I don't want the arrow and/or the mask.
If there is a 3rd of 4th component this can multiply quickly. Am I missing an easier way to handle this or is this what is normally done?

When doing a import of 3D model or choosing a font, I don't get preview, just a bunch of empty thumbnails... why... and how to update.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had this working in C3D2011 but after having severe issued with it in 2014 I went back and tested in 2012 & 2013 where it failed as well.
If I collect all supported styles using C3D 2014 & SincpacC3D's Export Styles command and export them to a newly created Database, when trying to open that new drawing it will crash C3D with no CER. Trying to run Recover on it results in a few screen flashes and back to the original drawing/screen and no opening of that new file. However, if I limit the selected styles to Export to just label styles, the drawing opens but I get this warning:
But wait, C3D2014 IS the latest version! What the heck is going on inside that code? I cannot show the full code, but the gist of it is that creating and saving a new DWG file is pretty straight forward. As soon as I add in the StyleBase.ExportTo(exportIds, outDb, dupHandler); the file becomes highly unstable.
Again, this worked well at one time, but it sure is not now and I cannot find any reason for it to be creating these bad drawings.
I am specifically working with the Section Major Offset lable. The City of Dallas wants the lable to call out the Offset distance and direction over the elevation (example "30.0' LT."). Since zero has not offset direction the label reads "0.0' T." at the center point. Is there a way to include an if/then statement in the label style to remove the hard coded text?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a set of styles created in 2010, the company I currently work for needs to have new styles added and I would like to use some of the styles I created to make my life a bit simpler in this process. I have created an Overall.dwt file using the current styles the company i work for has and I have imported my styles into this dwt. As im renaming these styles for my new company I noticed under the general tab for text style and block style I have text and block styles with my old companies name but i cant seem to find where the blocks or text style is being pulled from so i can edit it with a new name. So my question is where are these styles being saved so i can edit them
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't find information for how a block's text is utilized in a style. Here are some details. I have a unitless block with a non annotative text size of 10. This block is part of a style with a size 'use drawing scale' of .12. At 40 scale, it inserts at 4.8 size. If I change the text size to 8 it inserts at 4.8. If I hcange the text size to 5, it inserts at 3.
My question is how are the annotation scale, block text size, and style insert size tied together? OR are there other variables influencing the scaling? I have attached a screen shot of some of my unofficial tests.

I have been out of civil 3d for a while so a bit rusty, I like to have a surface with contours, so that I have 0.1m increments min and 0.5m max but when I go to the surface properties to amend it I would have a standard set of 1m to 5m design & 2m to 5m background etc... in the surface style...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI make a code set style by doubling the "all codes" style. Then make styles of links points and shapes in which i turn off the visibility in model. I also leave the render materials in links.
I try the set with 3d orbit. But as i turn around the model the rendering materials start to uglify..I attach an image to better understand what i am saying.
When i turn on the visibility of links the problem solved.
Trying to figure out how to define the folder I want my drawing to search in to find a specific set of point styles we have set-up. As it is set up right now, I am not sure where the program is looking to find the standard set of point styles it is showing, but its just showing basic civil point (ie. CB's, IP's, BM's, etc.). I have tried a few things to make it automatically grab the point styles I have in a set-up folder but is won;t display them.
The reason I need this, is that I want to set it up so that when I import points from my survey file, I want them to automatically insert into my drawing as the correct block (or point style), based on the survey code used.
I want to add labels for my aligments. (segments or multiple segments)
I dont see any dialog, c3d directly is asking me to click on aligments
(So I cant choose what styles I want).,
Maybe I have a variable with wrong value ? (Dont show dialog ????)

I went to import some line label styles from my template with the Style manager and found about they were grayed out. For some reason the curve styles were not. Why would this be? The new drawing only had a standard line label style.

I have a job that the customer provide the original CAD files with Civil 3D styles in them. As the project has progressed we have found many of the styles were not created properly and notified the customer. They have told us to fix the errors and send them the corrections...
Now that I have one file working properly I have to push the changes to the 30+ styles through the 100+ files of the job. Is there a quick way to do this in Civil 3D 2011? (It is part of our contract to use this specific program and release year without converting the files.) Or do I need to drag-and-drop each style into each file?

We have cooridors with features such as terrace drains and flowlines, but we cant seem to get the linetypes to show up correctly. For example a flow line should have arrows but it shows up without the linetype and looks continuous.

I'd like to have a fast method to apply "something" to view my drawings labels and points (by now) with different styles depending of my needs. I'd want to view my "station points " with a green circle near the station number, but In other "work scene" maybe I want to see nothing more a one pixel point, or I dont want to have my work space full of numbers....
I'd want to have a dropdown menu to customize how I'd want to view my cartography. The same I'd need to layouts. Is it possible to say this layout plots this symbol in this way and this another plots it using another style? ( and if possible to have a global way to do this with a whole set of styles)
Also... Is there any way to apply this when use a xref ? That is to say: is it possible to get my main drawing have control over its xrefs ? I'd want to have a way to view this xrefs in different ways...also a way to override layers properties from the main drawing.
