AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Displaying Points In Drawing As Manually Create Them?
Feb 20, 2013
I was wondering if there is a setting somewhere that can be turned on to display the manual points I am creating as I create them instead of having to go back and update the point group before they display in the drawing?

I have the following 8 points of XYZ-coordinates:
Location SampleID X Y Z Depth Elevation FGACDC-SS01 FGACDC-SS01-S1 -77.055876 39.00845 314.5 0.5 315 FGACDC-SS01 FGACDC-SS01-S2 -77.055876 39.00845 297 18 315 FGACDC-SS02 FGACDC-SS02-S1 -77.055886 39.008643 319.5 0.5 320 FGACDC-SS02 FGACDC-SS02-S2 -77.055886 39.008643 302 18 320 FGACDC-SS03 FGACDC-SS03-S1 -77.056203 39.008736 311.5 0.5 312 FGACDC-SS03 FGACDC-SS03-S2 -77.056203 39.008736 294 18 312 FGACDC-SS04 FGACDC-SS04-S1 -77.056203 39.008491 304.5 0.5 305 FGACDC-SS04 FGACDC-SS04-S2 -77.056203 39.008491 287 18 305
These 8 points are for 4 sampling locations with 2 depths for each sampling location. I used AutoCAD 2012 a little bit before and I am new in using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013. What are the key steps and tips of using the values of XYZ-coordinates listed the above-mentioned table to input manually into the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 program. Note: 4 sampling locations are in the 4 corners of a square lot and the 8 points should look like 8 corners of a box.

Is there a way to create a surface by manually selecting the points instead of creating a point group? I survey stockpiles for a local construction company and calculate volumes for them.
There may be 50 piles on one site and it would be a lot easier to create a surface by selecting the points manually instead of creating so many point groups.

Is it possible to create manual points from a cross section.
For example, I want to create a surface from a sketched (hand drafted) proposed cross section by clicking on the different points on my cross section and having a point created in my plan view.
I am working with an ancient engineer who swears by hand drawing data into the cross sections, and then wants me to produce proposed contours based on this data. I am trying to get out of writing down the Station, offset, and elevation, and then manually creating points and having to type in the offset and elevation again.
Stuck on Civil 3d 2011 (until the end of this construction season)

I was trying to edit a corridor surface manually by editing points and tin lines but for me its much easier to edit the contours itself so I explode the surface into polylines and fix the contour issues but when i make it into a new surface the Surface does not look clean anymore. When I look at it in the object viewer it looks rough and jagged and doesn't look like a road at all, however my original corridor surface did look clean with perfect roads and cul de sacs i just wanted to fix the contours outside the road. I tried extracting it like i should have done in the first place but when i add the contours to a surface it still looks ugly and jagged. Another thing is that when you look at it in 2D or plan view the contours look exactly the same but when i look at it from a perspective view or 3D that's when you see the difference.

Is there a way to create a point group of random points within a drawing and adjust the elevations for the points within that group? Some of the points in the group may have been manually created and some may have been imported by way of "Import Events"..

I have some drawing files that I keep on synchronizing manually everytime I open them just to show the EG, FG and Pipes properly to my profile view. I've already checked everything that could possibly cause this problems like name of my shortcuts, their location etc. etc. ...some of my files worked just fine so I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong with some that has this problem. Im using C3D 2012.

I have a rather odd situation. I have input a small table of survey points (we don't have access to a data collector, so it had to be manual).
I have a properly located and back-sited setup, with all of the points located in 3 dimensions.
The Northing/Easting/Elevation data is calculated and displayed for all of the points in the "observations" table accurately.
Every point has the same display/labeling properties/settings, but only 2 points properly display the elevation as calculated.
The problem seems to be that the points aren't accurately retrieving the Elevation from the table.
For some reason, in the “Properties” dialogue for the points that display properly, the “Point Elevation” field actually contains a number; whereas the points that don’t, the same field reads “*PROPERTY NOT SET*”.
This makes no sense, because in the table that defines the points, the elevation is accurate for all of the points, and I can’t find a difference in the table- or in the point properties- between the correctly displayed points, and the ones that are missing the elevation label.

I created a volume surface between the as-built and design surfaces, now I would like to show the points that display the cut/fill depths between these two surfaces. I tried modifying the surface property of that volume surface but doesn't seem to offer what I want.

I had to create a boundary map and place points to all corners. How to export these newly created points back into my data collector (Ranger) and also I'm trying to figure out how to print out a points list.
I stumbled on to this thread but I guessing that it's a different CAD year because my modify tab doesn't look like this. URL.....

In Civil 3D 2012, if you enable the option of "Display full path in title" under the Options --> Open and Save --> File Open area, the active drawing name and path displayed in the Tittlebar is not correct?
I've noticed this when the drawing window is maximized, didn't check when restored. Win7 (x64), EVGA 790i, 8GB RAM, EVGA 8800GT, 250 GB iSSHDD, & RAID 0/1

How can I draw points in Civil 3d using GPS coordinates?
Is it any way to input the coordinates manually if i have only a few key points, and then superimpose my topography or other objects? or should I insert a data file to get the points first? How can I upload the data file from my GPS tool, and how to figure out in which format to insert it?
I would like to draw with using the GPS coordinates itself, NOT the northing and easting( X,Y,) is it possible?

I have a drawing where points that I create will not display.
I have created points in this drawing before.Previously created points display fine.Points created in another drawing and imported into this drawing display fine. All layers have been turned on and thawed, to make sure it's not a layer issue."All points" point group is the top point group. When I create a point manually everything seems to work fine, info is echoed to the command line, etc., but then nothing happens. Obviously it's a setting somewhere, but it is driving me up the wall trying to figure out what setting. I'm sure I will slap my forehead when told what it is.

Using Civil 3D 2011, I have a topo drawing that's about 2 miles long. The points have styles to them to show the actual survey item such as manhole, trees, signs, etc. I have also created a point group called "no display" that I have added certain points to so they don't show up in the topo. While adding additional points to the "no display" point group, I have noticed that ALL the points but 3 have vanished from the drawing. We just installed the SP2.

I have imported a fieldbook Civil 3D and the co-ordinates all look in the point file. But when I insert them in to the drawing they are converted to mm (decimal shift 3 to the right). I can not seem to change this.
I opened a new drawing made sure the drawing units were meters etc etc, and still the drawing come in and are moved to mm positions. The point file still shows everything is correct in meters and I even click on the point in the drawing and list it and it lists correct in meters. But the co-ordinates are in mm inside the drawing. Dimensions between them is in mm also.

Here is my procedure.
1. Import survey point via ascii file into a new drawing call it Field-dwg.
2, Create a survey data base
3. Import all points in the the data base under import event.
4. open existing drawing, work-dwg, import points as needed from the Survey Data Base.
Problem : Survey points needs be renumber.
I goto field-dwg, and fix the points (renumber).
open survey data base for edit, and import Event, field-dwg/points/update : nothing happen
also try Import Event, field-dwg, survey points, update : nothing happen
so I re-import the points, all is good.
Then I goto work-dwg, and try to update the point, nothing happen.

I'm using Civl3D 2013 and I have a drawing that crashed and a recover dwg was created.
I ran the recovery and now the points and groups are gone. Is there a way to get them back?
I can go back to an older drawing. But, i'm trying to avoid losing a few hours of cleanup.
Is this just one of the bugs that is in Civil3D?

I have points in a 2012 C3D drawing and I am looking to draw 3d polylines from point to point. Ultimately I am wanting to generate breaklines for a surface from a topo. I was able to do this a few months ago and now no matter what I try nothing seems to work. When use the 3P command the Z Vertex is 0. All of the points in the drawing have elevations. I tried drawing a feature line however, the beginning elevation is saying 0. Its as if these lines do not recognize my points as having elevations.

I would like to copy cogo points from one drawing to another, keeping both their layer and user defined properties.
I can:
1. Do a copy and then paste to orginal co-ords. This keeps the layers but loses the UDP's.
2. Export the points to a csv and import into new drawing. This keeps the UDP's but loses layers
3. Export to XML. This loses both Layers and UPD's
I don't have a desc key file setup for the codes on these pts so this is not an option.

I have this attached file.
If I list one of the objects, it is defined as a block. I have repeatedly tried to explode this but to no avail.
My intention is to convert these AutoCAD "points" as points in Civil 3D to process them further. When I use Points>Convert AutoCAD points commands, it returns me a "invalid selection" message.
How do I explode these blocks and convert them to Civil 3D point objects?

I just installed AutoCAD 2010 Civil 3D on a 32 bit Windows 7 machine. When I open a dwg sent from a surveyor I can see and manipulate all the linework, contours, points, and SRF breaklines in the drawing. When I proceed to save the file to my computer and reopen it, the contours and points disappear; however all linework and surface breaklines remain. The two files that I have been working with were saved originally in 2004 and 2007 format. I have tried saving to their respective versions but that has not worked.
The only way that I have been able to retain these objects is by first exploding them and making them into a block and later inserting them into the other drawing. If I try to make them into a block without exploding them they also disappear.
Is there a way to retain all drawing objects directly from saving?

When I start to draw my polylines to cogo points I have inserted in my drawing it keeps wanting to hang up when I hover over the point. I have set up my point styles to bring in our points with all the attribute information so I am thinking it keeps trying to read all that info as soon as my mouse hits it..
I saw a post about rollovertips but that did not change anything. Any ides what might be causing this? Im using Civil3D 2011.

I have 4 points (from "Points from file", I created Points #1, #2, #3 and #$ in the non-linear fashion).
1) I want to create 4 straight lines (connecting Pt#1-Pt#2, P#2-P#3, P#3-Pt#4, P#4-P#1) by using some Commands. What Commands in the Command Line should I use to create these 4 straight lines from these 4 points?
2) I want to create 1 parcel (connecting Pt#1-Pt#2-Pt#3-Pt#4-Pt#1) by using some Commands after "Parcel Creation Tools" => Draw Tangent-Tangent with No Curve is clicked. What Commands should I use in the Command Line to specify these points to form a parcel?

I have a line at a constant grade. I need to create points along this line. The information given is in slope distance and these vary at times.
I've tried the point create methods and they all seem to calculate points at a horizontal distance. How do you enter the slope distance?
I know I can go back to basic Acad methods of divide, changing ucs so horizontal works etc.
wondering if it can be done in the create points commands?

I have collected points across a 500m distance with easting, northing and height values. This line of points is measuring a stepped slope of a field.
I want, if possible, to create a profile (something that looks like a slice of the slope, so that the steps and profile of the slope is clear.
Can this be achieved? Will you be able to guide me through the process?

This is a fantastic option, but I have a problem the whole drawing is rounded to two decimal places.
But when I execute create block from Cogo points he round heights on all points to three decimal places, where the third decimal is 0.
Example height is H =198.36 after H=198.360.

I have the need to put COGO points along the vertices of multiple 3D polylines in a DWG. I know how to do this individually for each 3DPL via the "Points>Create - Miscellaneous > Polyline Vertices - Automatic" or "CREATEPTPLYLNCTRVERTAUTO" command. Need tip on how to do this in a batch format for all the selected 3D PLines in the drawing without having to select each individual 3DPL and having to hit return to enter a description for each individual vertex? I can do without having to add a description and can leave each description blank or enter the same description for each.
I'm Using C3D2013.

I want to create new vertex points in feature line and 3dpol.
I have this:
try
{
if (obj.GetType() == typeof(Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.Polyline3d)) {
Polyline3d p3d = (Polyline3d)trans.GetObject(entRes.ObjectId, OpenMode.ForWrite);
[Code]....
In this code line:
oFtrLn.InsertFeaturePoint(punt, AeccLandFeatureLinePointType.aeccLandFeatureLinePointPI);
always catches the same Exception "the value is not within the expected range" .I have translated it because I get "El valor no está dentro del intervalo esperado". Perhaps is this: " Value does not fall within the expected range.".
I have tried it with different point3d values but always catches Exception.
With pol3d I have similar problem.
