AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assemblies Not Registered / How To Get Assemblies To Work

Jul 20, 2012

I'm trying to use assemblies when creating a corridor. The Tool Pallette is emply but I can drag the assembiles in from the Catalog. I've also created an assembly using the ASC. Neither work when I try to use them. The error message is attached.

I'm using a network installation and I do not have the option of changing it to a DVD installation.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Promoting Parts In Assemblies From Stock Sub-assemblies Or Component Groups

Oct 3, 2011

I am working in an Inventor Assembly .iam, I have about 250 fasteners (screws) that are constrained to a flat washer and lock washer. I would like to put them in as a single unit (sub assembly if you will) and then promote or explode them in the top level so that my bom has 250 screws, 250 washers, and 250 lock washers all at the same level, not associated to one another except thru the constraints that were entered in the original assembly. I have tried Promote but that doesn't work because it removes the washers from the original file and I end up with only 1 instance of the assembly. Am I approaching this incorrectly? Is there a better way? I run across this scenario with different components quite often.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Busting Up Sub Assemblies In Upper Level Assemblies?

Mar 8, 2012

If you have created a sub assembly and inserted it into an upper level assemby, is there a way to bust up the sub assembly at that level?

The issue arising is the individual components need to be called out on the upper level, but in the drawing are all showing up as the same balloon.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Transition Between Assemblies

Nov 15, 2012

I've attached a screenshot of some "webbing" I have going on between regions in my corridor.  As you can see on the left, there's the start of a left turn pocket lane, which is why I have two different assemblies.  This is just one instance, but this is happening along my entire corridor.  I've given up on trying to resolve and have made gaps in my corridor.  But me being an engineer, gaps bother me and would rather figure out a solution.  I'm wondering if it has anything to do with point codes?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assemblies And Corridors

Dec 28, 2012

I have a proposed road with a varying curb line.  There is a minimum 5 foot tree lawn between the back of curb and sidewalk.  I have used a lane transition and attached it to an alignment to get the curb to follow.  Also used the urban sidewalk with buffer widths.

How do I connect the back of curb to the sidewalk and keep the sidewalk in the same offset from the baseline.  In the attachment, I have used a zero inside boulevard width and slide the sidewalk over from the curb line in my assembly.  Will this work?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Connect Assemblies

May 3, 2013

I'm trying to construct a complex corridor of urban highway. To simplify corridor i've made assemblies for each side of the road (see picture). This solves problem of countless number of regions (and assemblies) that I'll need to set if assemblies are for whole profile.

The problem with seperate assemblies for each side of the road is that I cannot connect them using Median subassembly because Marked point and Median are in different assemblies.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Transitions Between Assemblies

Mar 8, 2013

It sounds like the transition should happen automatically (although some tweaking may be required).

But for some reason, I'm NOT getting a transition.

I had one assembly for the entire length and the designer wanted to have the curb stop at 0+40 and from 0+40 to the end, he wanted NO CURB--just an EOP.

So I copied the assembly, modified the copy so that there was no longer a curb and attached the shoulder (that was previously connected to the curb) to the EOP.

So the codes should all be same. I just attached a dwg file (created/saved in 2012) with my two assemblies in it.

Here's a screen shot of what I'm getting:

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Transitions Between Assemblies

Dec 19, 2012

I have two assemblies that represent road cross section at two points along a corridor. I want the corridor to transition smoothly between the two cross section so that if I look at a section halfway between the two assemblies it will have an intermediate width. Doing this with a simple transition assembly doesn't seem to be the most efficient approach since my offset or target actually changes as one moves up the corridor. Is there a way to generate a polyline or some other type of entity that could be used as a target?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Non Perpendicular Bridges (assemblies)?

Jul 5, 2013

1. We all understand that designing highways is not simple and I don't know in your country but in my area almost all the bridges come at an angle from the alignment/corridor. Now, how can you do that in Civil 3D ?

2. Can you insert an entire shape, let's say a culvert into the design / corridor and be able to show it in the 3d view preciselly like it will be in real ? what about showing it in profiles or sections ?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Limits Of Offset Assemblies

Aug 1, 2013

I have an offset assembly and I have forced the skew of the second alignment. (Is a simple basic lane + a linkslopebetweenpoints and a markedpoint placed at the left extreme of a basic road assembly)

As you can see, there are errors at the area in which we have the greater angle between cross sections. What are the limits of this C3D feature ?  Above  more  that "x" degrees of cross sections directions difference C3D are going to fail ?

What if I need a one-off sub-assembly--meaning that I'll only need it for THIS project?  I don't want it in my pallette permanently in that case.  Can I delete it from the pallette after I've added it to the Assembly?

I am using C3D 2011

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Modeling Breakwaters Using Custom Assemblies

Mar 19, 2013

Any Earthen Causeway or Breakwater modeling using custom Assemblies and Subassemblies. Any tips or tricks before I get going ??

Structure would consist of a Core, an Underlayer, and of course Rip Rap. Also the Rip Rap layer will most likely have a Toe at the Existing Seabed.

The last time we did a Causeway, it was fairly complicated and I did it with Grading Objects. Edits and modifications were a real PITA. Also volumes were a little awkward to get. I figure using a custom built Assembly would be a better way to go.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Model Corridors With Assemblies Perpendicular To Profile

Jan 17, 2013

I'm trying to model a tunnel network and I have come across a problem . The problem is best described with an example:

A sort of tunnel - or shaft - has to be blasted in order to make an access between the ground surface and a certain parking cavern. This access will be an escalator and the tunnel will be blasted in a 30 degree angle to the horizontal level. Normally when I design tunnel cross sections (CS) the contractor will blast the designed CS perpendicular to the designed profile.

I drew the tunnel CS with sub assembly composer and created an assembly in civil. I then made an alignment and a profile according to our design. And here is the actual dilemma: Civil draws the assemblies so that the assemblies are vertical and what I need is them to be drawn / modeled perpendicular to the designed profile. Is there a way to do this?

I will attach a .pdf and a .dwg of a surface profile along the alignment created (and tidied up) with civil 3d, in which I have tried to illustrate the problem in case my description isn't clear enough!

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Import / Export Custom Assemblies Palette?

Apr 13, 2012

I recently made a custom Tool Palette that contains all of our most commonly used Assemblies in our office on my PC. I then exported the Paleette to a location on our network and tried to import it onto another workstation. The Palette imported correctly and all of the assemblies are visible. However, when an assembly is attempted to be inserted into a drawing nothing is inserted.

Upon insertion the properties menu box shows up indicating that it is closed or locked..."do you wish to continue".

Is there a step that I am missing on importing or exporting of assemblies or Palettes?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Transitioning Between Assemblies Of Varying Cross Slope

Apr 5, 2011

how to create the transition portion of a corridor design where my road cross slope has to uniformly go from 3% to the right to 3% to the left.  I have the two regions set up, but I cannot get that "middle" or "connecting" region where the cross slope is "rotating" around my road profile center line to create this "+3% to -3%" transition.

I have been searching the internet and this forum, but cannot find a good explanation.  There is info out there about setting vertical offsets, but not sure how to do this so the cross slope is uniform all the way through this region (i.e., making sure that if the slope is 1.234% on the  right side, I will get 1.234% on the left side, etc.)
