i used to open file off like 6.5 mb size easly and i have a save as version of it and it open very fast and normal , yet nowi'm stuck for like 15 mins on "Regenerating Layout" in command line...
and it only happen with this file also my RAM usage went beyound normal ?! So what to do ?
I have a bit of a problem with Autocad map 3d 2012. When i try to insert a scale bar or a north arrow or any other carthographic element i simply can't find the layout elements that are supposed to be in layout tools tab. I've done a lot of research online and can't come up with anything.

This is for the design of the drainage hydraulics of highways.
The Contour Chart which is in jpg format, I have saved it in photoshop in medium size to make my autocad drawing the less heavier in size.
In fact, my AutoCAD dwg file is only 69 KB big. I have however georeferenced my Chart by UTM coordinates, so it is a little bit big in the drawing.
My drawing is in milimetres and the chart size is: 3861 x 2848.

What is making my AutoCAD crash all the time when I regenerate the model?
Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?
I try to save my drawing all the time though, and whenever my AutoCAD crashes I have to close it up, then I have to open AutoCAD and the drawing again; but this is a bit tedious.
I just purchased AutoCAD 2012. I am having issues with the layer controls. for example, I make a new layer in the layer properties box. I then assigned it a color, line type and make sure it is on. When I go back to the drawing in the model space the color is not changed, same with the line type and the layer is frozen.
I don't know what is going on. I have tried to regenerate the drawing, switch to the layout tabs and back. Nothing seems to work but one thing. I go up into my ribbon where the layer properties are and nothing is changed as I have defined it in the layers properties box. Once I change it in the ribbon it applies to the drawing.
Is there a variable that I am missing with the new version or what is going on?
When I open any acad drawing acad immediately goes into regenerating model with a flashing screen. It will not allow any commands and I need to kill the application using the task manager.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on the template for my company and making all the styles, labels, etc all consistent to our company standards. This also includes our standards layer names. There are 2 layers that I can't get rid of because they are in use somewhere. C-ROAD-CNTR-STAN and O_PROF-VIEW-TEXT both of these layers do not meet our standards and I can't get rid of them. I went through every style and label to see if I could find where they were being used, but couldn't find them anywhere. I made sure I check the layers for plan, profile, model and section on the display tab of each style.
Since there are so many styles to go through I wanted to try to narrow it down, so I started a new drawing from the template. I purged all of the styles, purged the layers, but they were still there. I set the object layers all to 0. I made sure that every label style default setting was also set to 0. Then I even created all new styles and labels for everything, did a "replace with" and made sure only the new styles were in use, removed the old styles and did a purge. But these layers still are being used somewhere. I tried using LAYTRANS to translate them into the 0 layer, but it doesn't work. There are no blocks in the drawing that are using these layers.
The only command that works to get rid of them is LAYDEL, but doing that makes me concerned that a setting may not have a layer set up for it and it may cause problems in the future.
Attached is a dwg file that I have stripped down as described above. I am using Civil 3D 2012, SP 2. Where a layer is in use? How you can now find where a style is in being referenced?
I have an old dwg that I used to add new data to. I also inserted a block produced by Revit to get a building elevation. I am not sure when or how it happend, but my drawing scale units are stuck on arch. I am talking about the bottom right hand corner of the screen on the status bar where there is the spot to set drawing scale. When I open by clikcing the arrow all the scales are in architectural units. I can add a custom scale of 1"=100', but it does not otherwise appear in the list. I wasn't going to wrry about it, but when I layout a plan/pro series they do not seem to be scaling correctly (and I cannot find a place to specify what scale I want the views to be at). UNITS, -DWGUNITS & -AECDWGUNITS don't fix it, they are all set to decimal, etc. Using the seetings tab to change the drawing settings, everything is set to feet, there is no place to specify arch units, the 100 scale drawing is shown as a custom scale.
This is C3D release 2012, on a 64bit Win7 Pro machine, everything is up to date.
Where I can change the units for the drawing scale?

I have a file that looks like it is going to open nice and fast and then it gets stuck at 50% synchronizing references. It literally takes over 5 minutes for the file to come completely up and ready to work on.
In the file I have an existing ground surface data reference and two corridors (with alignments, profiles and profiles views) that are basic access roads roughly 1200' long each with a very basic assembly. I also have a pipe network data referenced that is just a bunch of pipes that represent existing utilities crossing the access road so I can show them in cross sections. The final thing I have in here are 50' cross sections for each of these access roads.
why does it take me 5+ minutes to get into this file?
I have some Symbolic Lines in a Revit Family, any time I go to "delete" any of them the file goes into "Regenerating" mode and will not come out out of it without hitting "Cancel". If go to move or copy a "Void" I have created in the files it does the same thing.

i can remain in model space, but once I try on open the only layout tab, c3d hangs and crashes. i was able to create a new layout in the command line and rebuild my layout, but i still cannot open the original tab without a crash. i ran AUDIT and found 2 errors, but if i allow c3d to fix or delete them, c3d crashes. also, if i run PURGE, c3d crashes.
how i can determine what is at fault or a method to maybe even isolate the problem? maybe a trick?
When I switch to a layout there is a panel "Layout Tools" that grabs focuse. I've never had it before, where/how I turn it off?

in the paper space it seems that i cannot control the insertion scale?? i set specific letter height that works fine at the model but in paper every time i create a table I see different size depending on the zoom I have.
I am trying to layout a road profile. I have created a profile view with my existing surface. I select "Create Profile View By Layout" in the pulldown to create my vertical road geometry and I get the Profile Layout Tools pop-up but all the buttons are greyed out so I can't do anything with it. I am using C3D 2008.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason our layout tabs keep re-arranging themselves. All of a sudden our sheet 2 ( or what ever) is between tabs for sheets 35 & 36 (or where ever it wants to be).
we use tabs because 45 sheets of images require never ending scrolling. the current tab is never the image shown....they always start at the 1st tab?
when you are on sheet 40 and want to go to 44.....scroll .
Started freezing when selecting a layout tab. Other programs respond but not C3D. Seems to be this one drawing - pretty simple, about 1000 pnts, and a surface so far. When I select the layout tab it switches and I see a few contours but C3D does not respond. First time I have exp this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOur firm has finally decided to leave LDC 2009 behind and moving to C3D 2012.I would like to ask a few questions about the way plan and profiles are created with C3D.
In LDC, we would create a full profile that included everything in it, that is proposed and existing centerline elevations and left and right top of curb elevations. Then on the sheet layouts, we would make many viewports that showed the proposed and existing sets, that is centers, lefts and rights. (medians in the example attached)
I've been watching many online videos on how to sample center, left and right and how to create a proposed center line but I can't figure out how to make a proposed left and right profile so that I can control drainage into existing inlets.
I am using 2013 and it wont let me rename the layouts . I have just 10 layouts and it will let me rename one but not the others. The others just flash the little blue color and back to black.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Civil 3D project with piping networks, grading etc. The servicing and grading plans are on layout tabs (5 of each 10 in total). When I would go export layout Civil 3D would go into not responding mode and crash. This caused quit a bit of stress as we had to get the drawings out to meet a deadline.
After investigating this issue, we identified that we had save our layer states in the layer manager. Delete the viewport on the layout tabs, draw a new viewport and then reinstate the layer states for each layout. This resolved, the crashing issue.

Not only did I lose them in that drawing, I lost the tabs in EVERY drawing and EVERY version of C3D. I googled the problem and every forum says the same things, and I've tried them without success:

I'm lacking a couple of icons on the lower tray to the right of the Model/Paper button.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am working on creating a set of plans and have a couple of note pages that are generic and will not need to be change. I am creating a template with layers, layout tabs, styles, etc. I am trying to put these notes straight into a layout tab just simply by pasting them in there. The issue I am having is with the hatching on a couple of objects, the hatches appear correctly right off. When I save the drawing and reopen the hatches are a solid block, regen does not fix this. I can however explode the hatch and then undo the explode command and it appears correctly. Is there a way I can make the hatches appear correct everytime?

What would be the best way to edit a pipe network's layout (pipe position, pipe slope, structure height, etc.)?
The easiest way I can think of is to create alignments of all the pipes in the network and then editing the grips in the profile view of each alignment, easily changing the pipe's slope and depth...
The catch with this method is that:
- it takes a while to create all the alignments needed;
- I have to manually adjust the alignments if I need to change the pipe network position on plan.
