If I have one layer containing different kinds of objects in different colour, is there any way I can select all those of one color? For example, I have houses in magenta and roads in white but in the same layer. If I mark a house and use Select Similar the entire layer will get selected although I just want to select the houses. Can I do a selection based on the colour they have?
View 3 RepliesI have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask.
The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far.
I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?
I have the latest gimp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe ability to have the layer toolbar show what layer an object is by selecting the object in model space has ceased to function. Not sure what I did. It's not specific to the drawing either as I've tested it in other drawings as well. It's a toggle somewhere in autocad. BTW Its on my 2006 version. I own 2012 but i'm an old dog that doesn't like to learn new tricks.I just noticed that the prelection ability within autocad is shut-off. For example you select a few object and then use the copy command. The copy command does not recognize the pre-selected objects anymore. Autocad now requires me to select the object from within the command itself.

For instance, in PS = Import an image of gold - select a text phrse with wand - drop to gold - copy paste = gold text.
When in the hatch command in 2012 I go to select the layer I want to use, but only some of them appear in alphabetical order, and the rest seem to be all over the place making it quite difficult to find the layer I want. I've tried increasing the maxsort figure, but it makes no difference. How to make them appear in the correct order?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have determine that my AutoCad 2009 will allow me to drag/drop layers to an existing Group Layer Filter, but it will not allow me to right click on the Group Filter>Select Layers>Add. Once I go to the model space an select layers then "enter" no layers are added to the Filter Group and it gives me an error message that says "unable to modify layers while another command is active".
View 0 Replies View RelatedA drawing with hundreds of layers should be simplified for our customer by decreasing the numbers of and renaming the layers (there is yet no target file existing). In order to solve this, I generated group filters and assigned every single layer to them (all printing properties are assigned to objects). The layer groups show the desired layer structure after the transformation (still a three-digit number).
Unfortunately, the LAYTRANS dialog doesn't let me choose layers by group filters or remarks. It seems as all the work was for the birds.
Is there any way to translate my layers using filters or remarks?

I'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012 because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.
I use a lot of Group Layer Filters so I can turn things on/off quickly. My problem is I have been creating my Layer Filter Group by right clicking on the Layer Group Filter>going to Selection>then click Add> then go back to my drawing or Layout tab and select all of the layers I need then click enter. One day my AutoCad would not let me do that anymore, and even after I click on enter it gives me an error message saying the command is still active. Now from my Layer Properties Manager I can select any layer and drag/drop it into any filter and it works, but I really need to be able to select things within the model space or paper of each layout tabs.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI used PENZD file that has 8 points (4 locations with 2 depths in each location) to create a Point dwg that has several annotations I made. Then I used the
"Lines/Curves" => "Create Lines" by "Point # Range" to create 6 sets of lines:
Line Set #1 that connects Points 1-3-5-7-1,
Line Set #2 that connects Points 2-4-6-8-2,
Line Set #3 that connects Points 1-2,
Line Set #4 that connects Points 3-4,
Line Set #5 that connects Points 5-6,
Line Set #6 that connects Points 7-8.
The annotaions for the 8 points are gone, after I completed the creation of the Lines. I wonder whether I can create 2 layers in the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013: 1 layer for the 8 points with my annotations attached and 1 layer for the lines I created from the 8 points.
I've been using Photoshop CS2 for several years to enhance my photographs, but just now have encountered something simple I cannot find out how to do. I have on the background layer a picture of a room interior with the exposure set mostly for the open window, but the rest of the room is very dark. On the only other layer, the upper one, I have the same shot exposed correctly for the room, which overexposes the window area. The upper and lower layers are perfectly superimposed, and the upper layer is at 100% opacity.
I have selected the window on the upper layer and want to change the selected area's opacity to blend properly with the window on the bottom layer without changing opacity of the rest of the layer. No matter what I do, changing opacity seems to affect only the entire layer, and I haven't figured out how to isolate the selected area for the opacity change.
I can cut the selection to reveal the darker window on the bottom layer, but this doesn't give me the flexibility I need to balance the two exposures. An opacity change would be ideal.
I'm attempting to create an easier way to change layer colors of nested linework by selecting the linework and having the ACAD index color dialog box appear to select the replacement color.

In a layerd PSD file when trying to move the content of a layer with a mouse upon clicking in the work space my selected layer becomes unselected and the layer that I have my mouse over becomes seleted and tries to move that layer instead. Trying to move the layer with up and down and left and right works fine. I also have PS5.1 and it works fine. This is quite frustrating. Don't see anything in preferences about layer selection.

Now in Photoshop at this stage I just press Ctrl-j and the selection gets put into its own layer above the current one. How do i do this in Gimp? and can you set up a keyboard shortcut for it?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI want to create a Layer Filter that excludes both Civil Layers and Xrefs.
I have created one that excludes Civil objects (Excel Civil.jpg) but when I add a filter for excluding xrefs as well the Civil objects appear in the filter again indeed all the layers are included again (Excel Xref.jpg) if I invert the filter nothing is displayed.
When I select objects, right click to copy or copy the grips and selection goes away. It stays in the command and I have to reselect my objects. My select similar is also affected. I have this problem for a few days and then it goes away. After a few weeks, it comes back. Noun/verb, implied windowing and object grouping are checked on in my selection modes. C3D2011 v2
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe issue:When I ctrl+alt+right-click to select a layer, I can click the actual layer, or about 6 to 10 pixels below the layer. This latter option (the 10 pixel margin thing) is rather annoying when there's a layer below it, that happens to stick out 10 pixels underneath that layer.
It basically requires me to set the higher layer to invisible, and then rightclick again.There's a slight difference between pixel layers and vector layers, as vector layers seem to have a bigger "hitbox" than pixel ones.
The most annoying instances are layers with, for example, a one pixel line. You pretty much have to *guess* where to click, as everything is so close to eachother.I work in webdesign, and am working with pixel-perfect designs all the time, so this is something I deal with on a daily (read: every few minutes) basis.

- CS6, update it frequently on my home PC & Work PC
It's worth mentioning that I didn't have this issue before CS6, and have been using PS for about a decade, +- 30 to 50 hours a week!
Before you claim it's the computer, the systems I've noticed this on:
- My home PC (16gb ram, couple SSD's for scratch disks, GTX670, core7 etc)
- My work PC (16gb ram, no scratch disks or fancy gfx card, core7 as well)
- Girlfriend's MacBook pro
- Her Mountain Lion running desktop (custom build, hackintosh)
+ several other PC's at work (programmers running wildly different systems and OSes)
We have several Adobe subscriptions; I have one, my girlfriend has one and at work we have about 3 or 4.So, it's probably not the computers.

So, in PS if you make a selection and past it into a new layer it ends up in exactly the same position, however if I do the same on GIMP the selection is pasted at the top left hand corner. Then it's a major pain moving it to exactly the same place as the original

I've got a bunch of tags with a dedicated "tag mode" style, and if I select them individually I can add them to a table, no problem. However, if I try to do a mass selection of a swath of labeled lines or arcs i get the option to convert all non-tag labels to tag lables (I don't want that) OR don't add those labels not in tag mode (presumably keepin those that are). The problem I have is if I select the latter it deselcts everything. Am I missing something or does this not function as it implies (or at least how I wish it would)?

How can I disable the selection dialog box and enable selection cycling? I used to be able to hit shift+space bar to cycle through overlapping lines, I'd like to still be able to do that. I just switched from C3D 2011 to 2012.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a photograph as my background layer, and then a shape layer on top of that. I want to put a font layer on top of the shape, select the font, and then delete the selection on the shape layer, so whenever I hide the font, the photograph shows through the shape, but every time I do it, no matter the tolerance, the font that is in the shape looks pixelated. I've reset all of my settings, but I'm not sure what to do.
