When you use the command line "-Layer" and then type E for the Reconcile. It then gives you an option to "select objects" that are on layers that you want to reconcile. But I cant see how you get the command to actually select objects.

I've tried increasing the maxsort figure, but it makes no difference. How to make them appear in the correct order?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I select a hatch or polyline or any object with grips for that matter, and hold down shift to select multiple grips on the object or objects and then press my middle mouse button to pan or scroll it to zoom, the grips that I have selected de-select, meaning I have to set up the view so that all the grips I want to move are visible before selecting them.
This is only happening on some drawings (although it is most of them) and only when I use 2012 not 2011. Which system variable it is that has gone screwy that I need to reset? or is it something else?
I have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask.
The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far.
I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?

For example, I have houses in magenta and roads in white but in the same layer. If I mark a house and use Select Similar the entire layer will get selected although I just want to select the houses. It's not specific to the drawing either as I've tested it in other drawings as well. It's a toggle somewhere in autocad. BTW Its on my 2006 version. I own 2012 but i'm an old dog that doesn't like to learn new tricks.I just noticed that the prelection ability within autocad is shut-off. For example you select a few object and then use the copy command. The copy command does not recognize the pre-selected objects anymore. Autocad now requires me to select the object from within the command itself.

What command turns off the annoying "selection dialog box"? I don't know if it's new or not, but it started showing up this week. I see the purpose, but don't like it or the fact that autocad makes difficult to turn off a feature after it puts it there without warning. Attached is a screen shot of it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have determine that my AutoCad 2009 will allow me to drag/drop layers to an existing Group Layer Filter, but it will not allow me to right click on the Group Filter>Select Layers>Add. Once I go to the model space an select layers then "enter" no layers are added to the Filter Group and it gives me an error message that says "unable to modify layers while another command is active".

Make my polygon, and then I'm stuck in a single item select mode. If I hit enter, they all unselect and I can't do anything. Typing a command (like "m") does nothing.
Typing m <enter>, and then doing the selection yields the same result. At the end of my selection process and I hit <enter>, it sits in the single object selection mode (the little box cursor). Hitting <enter> here again makes the selection dissapear and I'm back to square one.
every time I select something a small box pops up in my way with the object's properties. I can't figure out how it became turned on, and don't know how to get rid of it.

What happens is when I hover the mouse near two or more objects a little blue box icon appears telling me that there is multiple objects there. Then, if I click, it asks me which object I want to select. URL....
I am not able to select item and then click command icon. Every time a command has to be started and only then the items to be selected. Drafting speed has reduced. also properties toolbar is also not working. basic props like col, lay etc can not be changed from the drop down menu.

When using selection cycling (which I think is brilliant, shame we didn't have it 15 years ago) with an xref attached the application slows right down to the point where moving the mouse results in the cross hairs jumping around and making using anything almost impossible. Turning the xref off or turning selection cycling off restores performance to how it should be. If both are on I just cannot use the program at all, shame really as this new feature is neat. I use x'refs extensively so this fault restricts use of the new feature.

I noticed today that in some drawing files I cannot see the selection box (clicking in a blank area and moving the cursor). I am still able to select things this way, both crossing and inclusive, but I just can't see where the cursor is or the selection box. In other drawings this works as it should with the blue and green boxes visible.
Under options>Display, the colors are set correctly. Under Drafting the aperture slider is at about halfway, but the preview is blank. Under Selection the pickbox size is at a fifth of the way up, but the preview is blank.
I have tried updated my graphics driver to the newest (and AutoCAD recommended) driver.
I am having trouble with my selection box. Ordinarily, when I am trying to select multiple object, I can just create multiple selection boxes and it keeps adding more and more objects to my selection. However, it recently started acting funny--it stopped selecting things after the first box was drawn. No matter how many boxes I drag, it won't add any more objects to my selection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA selection box has appeared out of no where in AutoCAD 2011. Whenever I enter a command then select an object a dialogue box called 'selection' appears with a list of possible objects for me to select.
It is extremely annoying. I have attempted to turn it off in options> setting but nothing seems to turn it off.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use a lot of Group Layer Filters so I can turn things on/off quickly. My problem is I have been creating my Layer Filter Group by right clicking on the Layer Group Filter>going to Selection>then click Add> then go back to my drawing or Layout tab and select all of the layers I need then click enter. One day my AutoCad would not let me do that anymore, and even after I click on enter it gives me an error message saying the command is still active. Now from my Layer Properties Manager I can select any layer and drag/drop it into any filter and it works, but I really need to be able to select things within the model space or paper of each layout tabs.
View 0 Replies View Relatedhow to turn off the little flyout menu that comes up when I am trying to use the LAYFRZ command and am selecting an object that is either extremely close to an object on another layer, or directly on top of an object on another layer. I am trying to quickly select a lot of layers to turn off, and when zoomed out I keep having to pick from the drop down menu which one I want to freeze.
I do not need to have this option on most of the time and would LOVE to turn it off as it is slowing me down a lot.
My question is, if there any tool /command, utility in autocad to select all objects of one type at one time : for example all text objects or all dimention objects if these objects on different layers and have different properties. in my work I have to insert many blocks(not annotative) or parts of drawings which were created by other people and have different from mine settings and properties of text and dimention objects. the insertions add so many layers and objects that I spend lots of time to correct them and to figure it out.
is there any way( command, utility) to select and manage all of these objects at one time?
P.S.i think it is very unconvenient that the plain autocad does not have dimentions and text as families or some sort of groups that s easy to manage.
I converted a drawing in pdf format into dxf. I'm using Autocad 2012 to edit the file. The dxf conversion is good, but of course there is no difference between the diffent kind of lines.
I would like to select all lines which have an orientation of 30° with the horizontal and put them into a new layer. Is there a way to do that ? I though about using a filter.
Then I will edit the properties oh those lines (color, thickness, type....).
My main issue with 2010 is with Match Properties. When I start the command, I am used to selecting the source object and then selecting those to be changed. With 2010, the command prompt is asking that I select all objects to be changed and THEN select the source.
I love AutoCAD 2008. As soon as I started using 2009, then 10, and 2012, I realized that the Autodesk engineers are attempting to 'improve' the program but not for those who have been using cad for 10-15 yrs, but rather for those who are new to it. It stinks!! I don't want CAD to be so 'user-friendly' that it clogs the system, adds a bunch of nuances that we don't want, and makes things more cumbersome!
