We are trying to devised a way to quickly control layers and linetypes due to the vast differences depending on the tech creatign the drawing... I set up a DWS file that has the layers and linetypes define; to that end, using laytrans works fine but all converted linetypes are 10 times the size... I have messed with LTscale, drawing settings, units, celtscale, nothing works...
View 5 RepliesA drawing with hundreds of layers should be simplified for our customer by decreasing the numbers of and renaming the layers (there is yet no target file existing). In order to solve this, I generated group filters and assigned every single layer to them (all printing properties are assigned to objects). The layer groups show the desired layer structure after the transformation (still a three-digit number).
Unfortunately, the LAYTRANS dialog doesn't let me choose layers by group filters or remarks. It seems as all the work was for the birds.
Is there any way to translate my layers using filters or remarks?

When I am done with a drawing (inventor .dwg), I manually go to "Save Copy As" and select DXF, and using my default options, save the drawing as a DXF on a server (OUTSIDE of vault) that our shop guys can access for CNC stuff. I understand there is a DXF Translator that I may be able to set to do this for me. How to use Inventor add-ins (my translator is loaded, thats as far as I got) or set them as macros. A button on the ribbon to export to DXF would be nice and I may also want to automate this further and have it do it on file save.

I have changed the Export Units from 1 to 4 and do not see any change to the STL ASCII output.. not sure what this parameter does... Expected it to be an enumeration of the drop-down box that you see during "manual" exporting.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012 because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.
I used PENZD file that has 8 points (4 locations with 2 depths in each location) to create a Point dwg that has several annotations I made. Then I used the
"Lines/Curves" => "Create Lines" by "Point # Range" to create 6 sets of lines:
Line Set #1 that connects Points 1-3-5-7-1,
Line Set #2 that connects Points 2-4-6-8-2,
Line Set #3 that connects Points 1-2,
Line Set #4 that connects Points 3-4,
Line Set #5 that connects Points 5-6,
Line Set #6 that connects Points 7-8.
The annotaions for the 8 points are gone, after I completed the creation of the Lines. I wonder whether I can create 2 layers in the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013: 1 layer for the 8 points with my annotations attached and 1 layer for the lines I created from the 8 points.
I want to create a Layer Filter that excludes both Civil Layers and Xrefs.
I have created one that excludes Civil objects (Excel Civil.jpg) but when I add a filter for excluding xrefs as well the Civil objects appear in the filter again indeed all the layers are included again (Excel Xref.jpg) if I invert the filter nothing is displayed.
If I have one layer containing different kinds of objects in different colour, is there any way I can select all those of one color? For example, I have houses in magenta and roads in white but in the same layer. If I mark a house and use Select Similar the entire layer will get selected although I just want to select the houses. Can I do a selection based on the colour they have?

Then you have to find this layer, and rename it. I also can use the command prompt to created the layer, However, I want to create a layer name similar to the one in the filter, as if I index the layer. Example:C-topo-spot-existing-phase -1 New layer: C-topo-spot-existing-phase-2.
At this time, this is my biggest complaint with Civil 3D: My drawing has many layers and overlapping objects and it's necessary to use layer manager constantly. Therefore, I will only have layers on that I need at any given time. So I'm working on a corridor, and I create temporary alignment station/offset labels. I have a style whose layer is, let's say XYZ. In the drawing I'm on layer 0. I place the label, and it does not display.
After turning on all layers, and searching throught the congestion and finally locating my label. I click on it, and properties says it's on layer 0. My style says it's on layer XYZ, but by process of elimination, I find that it's on the layer of the alignment. I understand about default layers under "edit drawing settings", but do I have to change this everytime I create an object or text? I would love to be able to override the default layer.

How I got this annoying display at the bottom of my layer dialog box...???...
"All: 197 layers displayed of 197 total layers"
it covers up the slider and the bottom 2 layers in the dialog box so I can not see or edit them...I will try to attach a screen cap to show you what I am talking about...
Some of my co-workers are having issues with layers. They create a new layer, choose a color and rename it and c;ose the ;ayer manager. When they reopen the layer manager, the new layer has reverted back to the color it started with. If they do it a second time, it works properly.

The text in the table appears to be on the layer "Text" but the lines which make up the table are still on layer "Text - Frozen". So when I freeze "Text - Frozen" I get only the content of the table with no lines. When I select the table, it is indicated that it is on layer "Text".

When I create a new layer and in the same process change the color and linetype it looks like it takes in the layer dialogs box but when you use the layer the properties do not take. I have to re-initiate the layer command and then the layer properties are not what I set them to. Once I re set them at this stage it holds the layer. I've attached 3 images.
1. Showing two lines and layer dialogs box on two new layers (objects look the same)
2. Showing dialogs box after reinitializing layer command (objects still the same)
3. Showing dialogs box and lines after changing layer properties (now objects are holding set properties.
I have two contour label styles (major and minor) both separate layers. When I bring in a label style (single) for those layers it puts those labels on layer 0. How do I stop this. I wish to have these labels placed onto the layers on which they are created.

Using Description keys I am inserting survey points which automatically create layers for each type of point. e.g. p_building. I would also like a second layer to be created called l_building (for building lines) when the p_building layer is created.
I realize I can create the layers and save as the drawing template but this is not a neat solution as you have to add every possible line layer (l_??) and then you will have a lot of empty layers as not all points are collected on each job.
A quick way to find a layer within a style. I have been changing layers in our Code Sets and I can't seem to purge out a specific layer.

All the settings/layer states look fine, but as soon as I add something to the defpoints layer it's untouchable.

If you have more than one PDF overlay, you might put them on separate layers. Generally speaking in this case, the PDF extents overlap so when i plot different sheets, I would want only a single PDF to be visible.
So, my first thought was to freeze the layers of unwanted PDFs in the viewport. Except, once i did that, nothing happened. So, i guess i have to manually freeze the layer when plotting each sheet? I then can't publish the layouts as the appropriate PDF's won't be visible.
