AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Moving Points To New Layer
May 11, 2013
is it possible to move COGO points to a layer soley based on point number? Â I have about 3,000 points buried within a 3M point LIDAR data set I want to tease out, but currently all points are on the same layer so I cannot turn off the LIDAR points.

I have a project that was started by leaving all the survey data inside the "All Points" group. So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?Â
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.Â
What should I do?Â

there are some points in my dwg that I can't move. I can rotate but not move. I noticed in the point file the ones that I can't move have a grey square in the cell with the point number and the ones I can move have an empty circle. How do I change the square to a circle?

I recently upgraded from Civil 3D 2009 to Civil 3D 2014. Â In Civil 3D 2009 I was able to set the point style 3D modeling to flatten the point to a 0.00 elevation. In doing this I could move the point around freely using the nod grip without the elevation changing weather I used object snap or just freehand placed the point.
For some reason with 2014 when I grab the nod grip it changes the elevation to 0.00 as soon as I move it from the location it currently sits despite the fact that everything is set the same as it was setup for 2009. Â Is there a setting that I need to change to fix this or is there a new way to go about moving the point without using a bunch of different commands.

My surveyor gave me a topo survey done in no particular coordinate system. He set up his total station on a PK nail and gave it a coordiante of (5000, 5000, 100). I used this survey to generate a surface.
I also have a site survey of the same site, done in state plane coordinate system. the two surveys have mulitple common points; pk nails, iron pins ect.
What i need to do is move the points for the topo survey over to the survey that is in state plane. A simple move command will not do this.
How do i go about moving these points to thier correct location without having to manually edit the .txt file?

I used PENZD file that has 8 points (4 locations with 2 depths in each location) to create a Point dwg that has several annotations I made. Then I used the
"Lines/Curves" => "Create Lines" by "Point # Range" to create 6 sets of lines:
Line Set #1 that connects Points 1-3-5-7-1,
Line Set #2 that connects Points 2-4-6-8-2,
Line Set #3 that connects Points 1-2,
Line Set #4 that connects Points 3-4,
Line Set #5 that connects Points 5-6,
Line Set #6 that connects Points 7-8.Â
The annotaions for the 8 points are gone, after I completed the creation of the Lines. I wonder whether I can create 2 layers in the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013: 1 layer for the 8 points with my annotations attached and 1 layer for the lines I created from the 8 points.Â

When I create design points, they will not display until I thaw a layer that the survey points are on. I have double checked these settings: On Toolspace Settings tab, under Points-Commands-CreatePoints, Default Layer is "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Default Style is set to Point Style=SPOTS-TEMP, and Point Label Style is set to TEMP-POINT#-ELEVATION-DESCRIPTION. When I check these styles, they are both set to the layer "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Yet every point I create ends up on the layer "C-E-POINTS_FIELDWORK_11-14-11.

I have made an add-in that automates the insertion of points on a surface and I am trying to find out how to put these points on a specific layer. I guess that changing the "standard" default Point style would do the trick, but I can't find the objects to use in the Civil3D API.

I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?

I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

I have a newly discovered issue with left clicking and moving lines and points in 2D-sketch.
After working in Inventor for a while I cant move lines and points(green and unconstrained geometry). If I exit 2D sketch mode and enter again I can move a line once and then its back to not being able to manipulate the geometry at all, the curser just want to create a marking box.

(CS3) I have a raster layer that has some semi-transparent pixels.
I'd like to make the layer itself fully opaque, and move the contents of its alpha channel into a layer mask.

I'm used to working with the pen tool in Adobe Photoshop, so Illustrator is just different enough to be problematic, since my automatic keyboard shortcut uses don't quite work. My biggest problem when drawing paths in Illustrator is that I can't figure out how to move individual anchor points without moving the entire connected path. I'm not using the direct selection right, or I don't have the rest of the path deselected properly, or something? How to move only individual anchor points in a path. (I am very tired of trying to move anchor points and ending up scooting the entire path along with it.)

Long time gimp user, but for basic tasks only. Now I would like to get my hands dirty a little more. I'm trying to setup a workflow that involves CAD, Inkscape and GIMP. Basically I did some architectural drawing in CAD, used Inkscape to clean up and convert DXG into SVG, so that I can use paths into GIMP. I did a script that for every path creates a new transparent layer with a layer mask using the path, so I can add fills and textures quickly. Now to the problem: say I want to add a texture from another image, i paste the image into the appropriate layer, then I want to transform the texture a bit (scale, rotate and perspective). the result is that the layer mask is transformed, too. I tried to disable the mask during transform, but didn't work.
Is there a way to workaround this? maybe some layer mode instead of layer mask?

I'm trying to move specific anchor points on a path a few pixels up from their current position, while keeping everything else where it is, so it'll transform the figure's shape. I'm trying to do it precise by changing it's dimensions, rather than clicking and dragging. does- work when I direct select the points I want and drag them. Problems with that:
Â
1) I have very little control. If I want the point moved up by whole pixels, I pretty much have to get lucky because it's always in decimal points.
2) With shapes bordering each other (parts of a complex shape), if I want to move their location to scrunch something (Half circle in a larger half circle, wanting to flatten out the base), if I lift those points up, they leave a gap. As if the top border of the outer circle has another anchor point under the lower of the one above that, and I can't click on it to move everything while they're still touching. I can take screenshots if needed. I'm following a tutorial to get used to the program.
 Â
Alternately, I suppose if you have a shortcut for constraining the drag to whole pixels instead of fractions, that's great too. In Photoshop and the like, holding Shift would give me precision, but that's not the case in this tool or perhaps program.

Is there a way to move a layer mask from one adjustment layer to another adjustment layer (within the same file), without removing the mask from its original layer?Â
(I can move a mask to a different layer by clicking and dragging the thumbnail, but the mask then disappears from its layer of origin). I'm using Ps CS5 on Windows XP.

I am using Autocad 11. I am working on some 12 year old drawings for a railroad museum. They are a mess. They look like they were done be an old pencil guy. Lots of views all over the drawing space rather than using layers to his advantage.
I am watching all the tutorials that i can find. There are Blocks on wrong layers.
I want to move a group of lines (part of the stuff on one layer) onto a new layer that i have created. Is it as simple as cut and paste? How do I prevent them moving during the process?
I tried making their layer current, then selecting the items, then cutting the items. Then i made the new layer that I wanted them on Current, then pasted them. I has to very carefully line them back up, and they are still on the original layer.

For some reason my computer is the only one in my office that is doing this. Whenever something is put on the def points layer I am unable to select it afterwards.
Such things have been:
1) The viewport in paperspace. The view cannot be resized but I can still click inside the viewport and work without problem.
2) Any line, block, etc made or put on that layer.
From what I've read others are saying is your layer 0 locked or frozen? It is not. Also in my layers manager nothing is turned off to make it any different from any other layer.

I have been looking around the web to find a quick lsp routine that will take all the xrefs in a drawings and move them back onto layer "xref" or "0" depending on what the design team wants.
The ones I have found don't work or move all the xrefs to separate layers.

I find that the command to move objects to a different layers runs very slow in one of the drawing. Â I want to find out what wrong with the drawing and how to speed things up.
I have a LISP program that batch processes a large number of drawings. Â One of the step to process each drawing is to change the colors of some objects according to the status of the objects. Â I do this by moving the objects to a later that has the right color. Â So far the program only takes 2 to 4 minutes to process each drawing. Â But the program takes close to 90 minutes to process one specific drawing. Â I track down the problem has to do with the command that moves the objects to the right layer, like this:
Â
(vl-cmdf "_.chprop" (ssget) "" "_layer" "ABC-Prod-Good-Pcs" "")
This command takes a very long time to finish, like 40 minutes each time it runs (to move 1200+ objects), and the program needs to run it twice for a total of approximately 80 minutes.
Please note that the drawing itself is not the largest drawing, and it doesn't have the largest number of objects to be moved either. Â It is close to the top-5 drawings in term of drawing size and the number of objects to be moved. I cannot say that the drawing size or the number of objects to be moved are the cause of the problem.
I tried to "speed up" by moving 200 objects incrementally. Â That didn't work. I tried to "speed up" by moving 100 objects incrementally and saving the drawing after each 100 objects are moved. Â That didn't work either; actually the speed is slightly slower than simply moving 1200+ objects all at once.
I don't know what to do. Â I believe there may be something unusual about that drawing. Â By the way, the reason why I choose to change color by moving objects to a different layer has to do with the fact that I have found this is the best way so far. I tried to change the color of the objects directly. Â But I find that the color of some sub-parts of the objects are not changed (because their color is by-layer). That's why I choose to change color by moving objects to a different layer.
How I can check the drawing, any different way to change color that is better.

(defun cPL ()
 (setq ss1 (ssget "x" (list '(0 . "point")'(8 . "Points"))))
 (command ".erase" ss1 "")
 (princ)
)
It is working only if I have the points in the DWG. If there are no points, I receive "Unknow command DPL". Is there anything I can do in order to avoid this error?

I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."

A drawing with hundreds of layers should be simplified for our customer by decreasing the numbers of and renaming the layers (there is yet no target file existing). In order to solve this, I generated group filters and assigned every single layer to them (all printing properties are assigned to objects). The layer groups show the desired layer structure after the transformation (still a three-digit number).
Unfortunately, the LAYTRANS dialog doesn't let me choose layers by group filters or remarks. It seems as all the work was for the birds.
Is there any way to translate my layers using filters or remarks?
I use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010.
