Found a link to some code (URL...) to automatically place an Mtext field to label assemblies. It was written for C3D 2009/2010 but I can't get it to work for 2011 - any VBA gurus care to take a look to see if it will run (or not) on 2011.

A big chunk of our time (80% more or less) goes into labeling lines and objects. I sat down with a MicroStation guru and they showed me how MicroStation automatically creates labels throughout different viewports and it has a feature to prevent them from overlapping.

To keep track of which assembly is which, I have been creating a MTEXT object and just type it in below my assembly. I would like to know if there's a way to make a label just show up with the name so I don't have to create all these text items manually. This would be just for reference only, not used for any final plans.

I am finally trying to take advantage of the "fields" in autocad. I created a section label block which has the scale of the detail ( which I have to change manually). I want the scale to change with the viewport scale.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am making an assembly and some components are "over-sized" and to be prepared/cut down and welded in the field.
I would still like to have an assembly file to show the desired result, but when creating a typical assembly, the over-sized parts do not look good or show a nice final assembly.
What would be the best practice to show a visually appealing final assembly, but not have any effect on the individual part and drawing files?
Only thing I can think of it is to use Model features in the assembly environment.

How do I make Lightroom automatically fill out the Altitude field as well, when dragging a picture onto the map? I don't suppose it's all too common to be anywhere above (or below) ground level, and I do believe Google Maps has altitude information in it. Roughly at least. And if I where on a tall building, or in a mine, I could still change it afterwards.
I'm using Lightroom 4.3 atm, can I make it do this?
Creating a tag to automatically label structural beams? I am trying to label a beam with its style name and bottom of beam elevation but I am not having any luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedC3D 2013. We have profile line labels, some of which get manually edited (for example, change the "<[Tangent grade(FP|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|SD|OF)]>" to a static number such as 0.29%).
However, if you CTRL+Click and select one of these labels and change the style of that one label, then the manual edits are lost and the label reverts back to the default string.
Is there any way to turn this behavior off?
Is there a way to "Edit Label Text" in a Parcel area label? Similar to the way you can edit it in other styles.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to label my Profile label stations as raw stations, 20~20 meters, and I'm not being able to adapt the format to STATION 0, STATION 2, without any plus zeros or +, or -, or commas, or anything, as following in the image.
Is there a easy way to do it?
I have made a macro that asks for a location on the file server (=client name) and then the project name. It then automatic creates the correct folders, opens my custom assembly template and changes an ipart that is by default in it.
That's all great and can save us a ton of time, but the last step is to automatic save the assembly! I just can't get it working and can't find the correct code.
I have defined the target folder earlier and the file name of the assembly is identical to this folder. For example
target folder = O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1
file name = ClientProject1.iam
-> result: O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1ClientProject1.iam
the code that I think should work looks like this:

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm a playground designer and we're currently in the process of updating our systems to Inventor. Over the next few years I'm going to be working on many different assemblies all using the same parts and sub assemblies, many of which need to share the same ground plane.
I'm wondering if there is any easy/quick way to make certain parts (not all) automatically constrain/flush to the ground/XZ plane when I place them?
Is it possible to pin a label to another label ? Or pin a label to an object so that when the first label (or object) is moved, the other moves with it ?

This list has Renumber Items activated.
All renumbered items become in blue cells in Part List properties table.
All added or altered after that Part Properties are not shown in this Part List.
For instance if I would add or change some Description, Comments or other properties to some parts which are in “blue” cells those will be not updated in neither auto nor any manual way.
So far I should delete and create the table again to see new added properties.
The question is: Is there are any other more simple ways to update the Part List table without recreating it from scratch?
I had with a custom texture not showing up on my parts while they were showing up on a coworkers computer fine. I recently cured my own issue (I just needed to click Textures On in the View toolbar under Appearances). I am thinking it is going to be a simple fix as well but I have not been able to find it.
Everytime I close out of a part or assembly it automatically turns the textures back off so I have to turn them on everytime. I looked through the Application Options and Document settings to keep textures turned on but could not find anything. How to turn the textures on and leave them on?
I thought I created a rail sub assembly.
So I created the rail sub assembly everything looks great in sub assembly composer.
Start a new dwg data reference in the rail alignment, Note the rail alignment type is set to rail.
Create an assembly and under the Construction tab for the assembly the Assembly Type is set to Railway. Attach my custom sub assembly to this assembly.
Created a corridor and I get this error: Something wrong with current subassembly: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
So I delete my sub assembly attach the Civil 3D Rail Single sub assembly. Re run corridor and everything works fine.
So I promote the alignment change type to centerline. Delete the Rail Single sub assembly put my rail sub assembly back. Rerun the corridor and everything works.
So then I undo everything up to the point of promoting the alignment.
Opened the base file changed the alignment type to centerline.
When I tried to synchronize the references I ended up a broken reference with the following error. Invalid reference. Synchronization failed
Not good we already have plan sheets cut.
where in sub assembly composer were do I define the sub assembly to be for Rail?
I am trying to get the correct total mass of a particular assy variant in a view label. I am trying to avoid using I-Assemblies due to the length of time it takes to set up and inevitable fudging of parts lists with phantom parts when things go awry. Anyway, to get around that clumbsiness, I use a combination of suppresed parts, assembly Level of detail (LOD) and View representations to switch parts on and off for various assembly variants of a theme (which works fine for me). see my "Mass of LOD's.jpg" attachment which should fully explain the parts list filtering and what I WISH to achieve. My objective is to get the correct MASS per Level of Assy and View Rep (both called the same) to be automated, correctly (as per LOD/VIEW REP), ideally, in the view label or in a leader note. I reckon I was able to do this way back in MDT? Any enhancement in Inventor 2013?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a finished corridor, but now I need to add marked points to label a few key grade breaks in my cross sections. When I attempt to add the marked points on some of my sub-assemblies it gives me the error that the sub-assembly is not part of the assembly. I can right click the sub-assemly and choose "Add to Assembly" but when I rebuild the corridor it strips all the sub-assembly data from my assembly and leaves me with essentially a null assembly for the range.

I have a 1 mile road topo coming up for design purposes. The curb is standard, but there is full curb & depressed curb. If you had your way from the CAD seat, what shots do you prefer?
Most accurate I've seen iis Centerline, Edge Pavement/Edge Concrete Gutter, Flowline Gutter, Face Curb, Back Curb. More fieldwork, but made a good product.
What I have seen is CL, EP, BC, then "let them just use a template" and several variations thereof.
I have never seen a good way to automatically offset from say BC only and handle depressed curb by field coding.
I am having trouble importing a field book file.......I click the option to import survey data, verify the survey database then select the field book option but at that point Civil 3D does not alow me to browse to select a field book file.

We use Trimble data collection software. We typically import a "rw5" file converted from the "job" file. We then convert the "rw5" file to a "fbk" file. The conversion process has some bugs in it..
We have found two problems (thus far!):
1) The backsite data, for a station set-up, gives back an error when we reduce the data into the survey network. It also tweaks the coordinates for the set-up point. We have fixed the error by noting this line of data in the "fbk" file.
2) When the field doubles angles (wrapping, turning, etc.) C3D use only the first angle turned and not the mean or averaged angle.
We have found that if Trimble Geomatics Office (TGO) is used in post-processing, the "fbk" file generated works on both counts. FYI, the Trimble ribbon does exactly the same thing as C3D when a "job" file is imported, i.e. does not work properly.
I am just wondering whether FIELD category can access the OBJECT DATA Table ?
I want to use a block to display its OD table's attributes as Annotation text , so that the Text will update when the OD table change.
Or do I need use the Data connection for this purpose ?
