AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Intersection - Curb Return

Feb 7, 2011

C3D 2010 user

I have a problem modeling intersection. This is first time I am modeling intersection. I have gone thru' and actually did all intersection tutorials offered by C3D and naturally I felt like I am ready for it.

But in real world I am not. I am trying to model intersection and I keep getting error as "Value on Wrong side of alignment to profile". I looked at target mapping and thinks so that all is okay (may be not). I am attaching snapshot of error message as well as plan view. I wanted to forward actual dwg but size is too large to post.

Point to note:This is Left lane driving setting. I realized this after I created alignment/profile/assemblies but before I tried intersection modeling.

I did 8 iterations before this post.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Intersections 2010 - Change Curb Return Radius

Feb 24, 2012

Changing the curb return radius after the intersection has been created. I am able to go back to the curb return parameters dialog and enter a different value, but once I hit Enter or OK the value reverts back to the one I orginally used.

So it looks like I have to delete the intersection object and re-start the wizard from scratch.  Not that it's a big deal, just thought there might be a way to make the change once the intersection is built.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Feature Line Style For Curb Return With Markers At The Deltas

Dec 5, 2013

I am trying to create a feature line style that would include markers similar to minor stations of an alignment at the End Points and 1/4D, 1/2D & 3/4D locations. The thought is that I could use these on curb returns, and the markers would identify the locations we provide construction staking.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Point Elevation Takes On Elevation Of Snapped Object?

Dec 19, 2012

When I snap a point to an object, the point takes on the elevation of the object. I would rather the point's elevation stay as is.

-changing osnapz variable

-latest civil 3d service pack

A few weeks ago I did not have this problem but once my computer was switched to the company's global server and c3d was reinstalled the problem appeared. Furthermore (post switchover), when a colleage of mine prepared a simple test drawing with just a line and a point, he was able to snap to that line without the point changing elevation. When he sent that drawing to me and I tried snapping the point to the object, the same problem occured with the point taking the elevation of the line object. I suspect it is a system variable issue

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Getting An Assembly To Follow A Top Of Curb Profile

Nov 6, 2012

I am trying to get a street assembly to follow a top of curb profile.  The profile is at the face of curb.  The centerline of the street is my assembly target profile and alignment.  I do not want to create an alignment for the curb.  The curb profile is based on the centerline alignment.  I can't figure out how to get a link that will track the curb profile at the face of curb.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Corridor Assembly Elevation Target

Dec 20, 2013

how to create corridor, and I have a question about assembly elevation targets.

When creating a corridor, the profile is required as dependent object, which gives the elevation of the centerline of the road. Based on the definition of assembly, the elevation of the corridor at the offset targets can be determined by the profile.  My question is if the assembly elevation target specifies the elevation at the offset target too? If so, why both profile and assembly elevation target are required?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Create Intersection Design Using Intersection Tools

Mar 6, 2013

I am trying to create an intersection design using the Intersection Tools in C3D 2012.  I followed the steps in the tutorials, created a corridor on the major road, splitted the regions, created the intersection and added it to the major road corridor, and connect the regions with the intersection portion.

I used the same assembly throughout the design just for simplicity, however, i notice that there are gaps of curb between the curb return section and the through section (as outline in red rectangles).

I sometimes create parts while working in an assembly. This hasn't been an issue but something mysterious happened. Once I create my new part, to get back to the assembly ( turn off the transparency)

I typically press the Return button which is normally in the first tab (this example shows I created a sheet metal part)but for some reason the return button is now in the inspect Tab??I tried looking through the customize ribbon form and can't seem to put the button back into the first tab?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Curb Height Transitions

Aug 21, 2013

Trying to model a curb height transition in my corridor. Over about 15' I want to go from a 6" curb to flush.

The only way I can seem to get it to show accurately is to leave a void in my corridor.   This allows the surface which is created from the corridor to model correctly and give me a transition of my curb height from 6" to flush.  Here's the object viewer showing it correctly:

However, there are a few problems with this approach.  Mainly I've come to like the way the relatively new "extract corridor solids" tool (toolspace, toolbox, miscellaneous Utilities, corridor solids).  I use this to create a fairly nice looking Navisworks model.   With the void, now my model has a void.  It seems to me that there should be a way to have a subassembly that can target both the back of curb profile and the edge of gutter simultaneously.  I've tried with the standard subassembly "UrbanReplaceCurbGutter2" but with no luck.  Any successful modeling a curb height transition within their corridor?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Curb Drop In Corridor

Jan 9, 2013

I have a corridor with multipule intersections. I modeled the primary road straight through the intersections. Created ETW alignments and profiles to target in the intersections. Most intersections did not require this but one complex one did. All other quadrents in this intersection worked out except for this one (see attached). In this intersection the primary road alignment leaves the centerline of the road and transitions to a lane. I can't seem to figure out what this one quadrant is trying to target?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Corridor Back Of Curb

Feb 12, 2013

I am new to corridors and am having some trouble with this.  I have an assembly that has a paved roadway, 2' curb and gutter and a sidewalk.  Along the road the curb varies to allow for on street parking.  I have the front and back of sidewalk attached to an alignment, so it is exactly where it needs to be.  I have an alignment that my EOP follows as well, and that seems to be ok. The problem is the back fo curb in the corridor.  Instead of being 2' offset from the EOP, it is shifted 2' perpendicular to the baseline. Please take a look at the attached picture.

I think I can get it done by making each parking "bump out" it's own region using the EOP alignment, but that will take a lot more time and make my file a whole lot bigger. Being a corridor rookie, I am hoping I am just missing something.

I'm using Civil 3D 2013.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 3 Line Profile Curb Transitions

Jul 6, 2012

we use three line road profiles.  If there is a bus pullout or lane transition we show the curb profile based on centerline stationing.  I'm able to generate a the corridor using a transition lane assembly from centerline  and targeting a widened offset alignment or just a feature line.  I can import the corridor curb feature line into a profile which would be a perfect solution, but it is all truncated. (i.e. no vertical curves)  I can create a profile of the offset alignment, but the stationing doesn't match centerline.

How can I either generate a non trunidicated profile from the corridor for my curb profiles? How can create a design profile of a transition/pullout curb line that I can target and plot against centerline stationing?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Moving Curb Grades In Profile View?

Aug 20, 2012

I am having a problem with moving my profile grades. I go to Utilities under Corridors and create a profile for the left and right curb. They show up in my Alignment Profile, but when I click on one to move it, it disappears. When I type regen, it shows back up. I am trying to set my crossection grades in my Multiple Section Views.  I first create my Profile from Surface, then do a proposed centerline grade by Draw tangents with curves.  I create the corridor, put in the regions, go to corridor properties and pick the right and left corridor lines I have created. Then I set the existing surface and attach it to my profile. I create the sample lines and the Multi Section Views. Where am I screwing up?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Grading Objects From Curb Lines - Linking?

I have been creating grading objects from my curb lines, assigning grades using the editor, then offsetting that line for the BACK of curb, and using the raise-lower command to raise the curb line height. If I edit the original face of curb line (gutter grade) then I go back and redo the process. Is there any way to intelligently link these two lines so that if one gets edited C3D knows the other is 0.5 feet higher (or lower) than its neighbor?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Open Inconsistent Assembly Takes Long Time To Show Unresolved Link Dialog

Oct 20, 2011

We have a data folder on the server mapped as network drive to the clients. The data folder contains all cad data stored from productstream professional.

Due to an over 10 year old environment the data folder contains a huge amount of cad files, library parts, iParts and so on.

Due to historical growth of the environment there are some missing parts (not available on the file system anymore), because they were deleted, are corrupt, and so on. At the root of the data folder there is located the typical cmpinv11.ipj inventor project file.

If you open an assembly either from productstream or via inventor (without productstream) directly from the data folder and the assembly has an unresolved child component because the file isn't there anymore it takes a very very long time until the dialog box for unresolved link comes up (waiting time several minutes 1...10min). Once reached this point one can skip and repair the assembly, of course.

But the question is, how to speed up the time for getting the unresolved link dialog?

The network connection itself is quite OK und the project file itself is also OK. The project file list of every user is pretty small (only cmpinv11.ipj and some standard ipj's).

We think inventor internally scans the whole project-file folders to ensure that the component is really missing but due to the huge environment this takes many minutes and is annoying.

Any bypass for that? Is it possible to apply a temporär setting before opening a potential inconsistent assembly? Or is there a setting like skip unresolved components by default or by a defined timeout?

Because it is Inventor 2010 (Productstream PRO 210) there is no File open Option Auto-Skip unresolved components (like in 2012) but even if it was I guess it wouldn't reduce the time to get the dialog either.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Drawing Does Not Appear But Takes Up Space?

May 19, 2013

I have a .dwg that displays a tumbnail of a corridor that I created. The file is large, 123MB, however when it is opened the vast majority of the drawing does not exist. As in with all layers turned on nothing appears, the surfaces do not show up in the prospector, nor does the corridor or any assemblies. The drawing is far too large for what is in it, there is one surface and minimal layouts. Additionally the mouseover previews for the layout tabs display correctly what should be there, however when the layout tabs are actually selected, they are blank. Restoring from backup does nothing. Attempting to purge etc. does nothing. Attempting to insert the entire drawing into a blank drawing causes autocad to crash with a memory read exception. (That tried on multiple machines with identical results.) I'd say that everything got deleted, but the file size indicates otherwise. cntrl-A finds nothign other than what I can see and select normally.
