AutoCAD Architecture :: MTEXT Columns Become Narrow And Tall After Exit / Reopen Drawing
Sep 18, 2012Why my MTEXT columns become very narrow and tall after I exit and re-open a drawing?

View 3 RepliesHow do you get MTEXT columns to go from left to right? The default is left to right. When the mtext gets to the column limit it creates another column to the right. I want the column to be on the left. I've done this 'before and I thought the variable was available in the properties bar but I can't find how to do this anymore.
Right to Left is the way of drawings.
I have have several scans that were saved as compressed TIFF that used to be roughly the shape of a letter-size piece of paper. Now when I open them, they're displaying squashed, tall and narrow. Other scans made in the same group, at the same time, saved the same way, don't show this. The ones that are not squashed say "(Gray/8)" in the title bar. The ones that are squashed say "(Gray/8) [scaled]" in the title bar. The preview in the Open dialog shows the correct shape.
I've never seen this before. Is this "scaling" something I can turn off?
mtext notes in my drawings occasionally reformat when I reopen a file. The notes become a column of single words. I have to go to each note and stretch the box. Doesn't always happen, but when it does every mtext box becomes a column. I'm using LT 2012.

In MS Word I can have some text that is all in one full width column, then put in a break and have a later section in multiple columns, then a break and go back to one column.
I want to do something similar in ACAD.
Here is how I want it to look.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
1. LOTS OF BOILERPLATE 2. LOTS MORE BOILERPLATE
Here is how MText does it.
GENERAL CONDITIONS 2. LOTS MORE BOILERPLATE
1. LOTS OF BOILERPLATE
Is there a way to separate sections, or do I need to make the "GENERAL CONDITIONS" part a separate mtext object?
I use the command -scalelistedit to clean the strange scale , i do purge , save , close and when I re-open the drawing the bad scales are back

I'm modelling columns in-place. I have given the first one a Type Mark name but when i copy it the Type Name does not copy with it and the count in my schedule remains at 1.
Due to the shape of the member i had to model it as an in-place family.
I have been trying to add beams to a layout of columns and some of them (not all) are behaving oddly. Instead of the beam trimming square at the side of the columns, the column and beam are joining with a mitered connection. The same is happening with some of the intersecting beams...a 45 degree miter on each beam.
There must be some setting that I have inadvertantly changed but I cannot find what it is. Changing trimming parameters in the Properties panel that seem like they should be involved, has no effect. And neither does cycling, via the Control key, the connection parameter when the beams are placed.
I have a series of 3d walls in autocad Architecture 2012 and an existing CAD 2d structural column layout.
I need to remove/cut or trim the wall around the HSS columns on a floor plan. The walls show the consttruction of the wall and I can't seem to create a void or mass to cut out around the column. Is there an easy way of doing this so that I can just place this in a block to auto cut the wall. My hope was to create a column block so that I can just drop the HSS columns wherever i want them.
I know i can use a wipeout to clear the area however, that is not ideal as we have other linework that need to be visible.
We are using ACA 2011. When I look to place a default Steel Column from the Design tab of the Design tool palette, I see no optoins re: the make-up of the column, only the length - the column only shows as a generic extruded box. Are there I-Beam, C-Beam profiles loaded anywhere in the content that I can access.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Inventor Product Design Suite 2012. When I try to exit Inventor 2012 it just hangs there indefinitely every time. I have to use task manager to shut down Inventor. It doesn't matter if I use Inventor during that session or not. It was installed with all default settings and most current patches installed. It was also installed with administrator privledges and UAC turned off. This ia a clean install on a new hard disk drive.
The AutoCAD products in the bundle will hang sometimes on exit if plotting was the last command in that session.
My system is:
HP XW 8400
Dual Zeon 3.0 GHz CPU's
4 GB Ram
NVidia Quadro FX1800 Graphics Card
Windows 7 Professional with all current updates
All drivers are current
There are no anti virus software packages on this system. The hard drive still has 120 GB free space.
I have modeled a house with some colums supporting a deck. Ideally I would like my colums to be round with a spiral twist.. But would be happy to know how to change the default square into a round colum.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhat's the best way to create a block that has the MTEXT in it?
Meaning whenever I insert this particular blcok, I can easily edit the text while it automatically? to the middle point of the wall?
The bottom of a diagonally stacked fraction in Mtext aligns to the baseline of the string, which pushes the number with a fraction upward, which looks bad- see attached. Can this be corrected?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a detail section of millwork ... and some of the text is bold and some are not. But the weird thing is that all the text is from the same style, none of the text is bold and they are all the same size. So why are some bold and some not? View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to set the default text size when using mtext with an annotative text style?
I have an annotative text style I use for everything. I have the height set to 0 in the style. In MTEXT the height always defaults to 1/4" which I never use. Is there a way to make it default to 1/8" text? It is annoying to have to have to change it every single time I use mtext.
The height is usually the paper text height but sometimes within a viewport the height is the model space height instead of the paper height. I don't know why it is different in some viewports but I would like to have it consistant.
I've been having this issue happen repeatedly, but not consistently. In a new file, I adjust the width of an mtext box so that the text wraps into multiple lines. When I next open the file, all mtext boxes are back at a wider width so that the text is all on one line. The start of the text is also usually in a different location. This was happening on 2011/XP and now on 2012/Windows7.

I have lately been having some issues with text in Architecture 2009. I first noticed that within Mtext, when you hit the "UPPERCASE" or "lowercase" buttons, the text disappears in the editor, and no changes are made. Not the end of the world, but not handy.
Then it stopped letting me type in Mtext boxes at all. The return key seemed to work, but nothing else. Then it started converting text typed into Mtext boxes into (I think) Chinese characters. Really not handy. At this point I decided to try to reinstall. First I tried a repair, then reinstalled over the existing installation, then uninstalled completely and reinstalled from the disk. I've also done a windows restore, though as this has slowly been falling apart, I'm not sure when I should restore back to.
I have Mtext basic functionality back, but the "UPPERCASE" and "lowercase" buttons still make the text disappear.
Not sure if it's related, but I also get a Fatal Error e06d7363h at 758bd36fh about 4 or 5 times a day. Usually it's associated with the open command (ctrl+o), but sometimes it just happens at random.
When I create a drawing with Mtext and my co-worker opens the drawing the width of the box defaults to 0 and the grips to enlarge the box are all snapped to the insertion point. How do we get the text boxes to stay the same??

Instead I'm creating new mtext and it has a set width that I am unable to change in the properties window.

Plus is it posible to change the default so that I don't have to worry about changing it every time?
