AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Finding Surface Setting / Style Option?
Jun 26, 2012Is there a surface setting / style option where contour labels (elevations) will display at some specified interval as part of the surface rather than going through and adding them as labels afterwards? Seems like a rudimentary operation, where the labeling can be so scattered and random.

Jul 27, 2009Until recently I have had the 'thumbnails' that pop-up when you 'rest' the cursor over the lay-out tab show a preview of the contents. It is still doing this however it has somehow gotten so that it only shows about a quarter of the page and it will not update to show what my previous view of that paper space page was.

Aug 20, 2012I am having trouble presenting segmented lines with a dashed line type in AutoCadMap 3D 2011. When the segments are small (as in curves) the dashes float together and the lines appear to be continous. This is not the case in for example TopoCad and ArcGIS.
Is there some kind of system setting in AutoCad where you can chose drawing technique? So that the dashed line segment starts with the blank part instead of the dashed?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Setting Up Default Setting For Lab Environment
Sep 4, 2012Best practices for setting up systems in a lab environment. We have a lab enviroment of about 200 systems that access AutoCad, Inventor, Mechanical and others.
We need to have a customized interface come up when Autocad is opened by students.I have read that you can do this with profiles and workspaces and also with loading a acad.lsp file.
In the past we have just copied the Windows admin profile used to customize AutoCad to the default profile. In AutoCad 2013 that does not seem to grab everything. It doesn't seem to be the best way to do what we need.
We will also be moving to Windows 7 soon which will also cause an issue.I want to find the best way to do this with out having to deal with the Windows profile.
Photoshop :: Mac Finder Thumbnail Update Using Save-As External Hard Drive?
Feb 12, 2013I recently converted to an iMac and CS6 from PC/CS5. In addition to the Mac OS missing some key file selection tools (like shift select for a range of files), I am having a big problem with thumbnail. I recently sent a file to be printed that was edited in CS6 on the iMac. The files were stored on an external hard drive connected direclty to the iMac. The file I got from the printer did not match the image I sent. I traced the problem to the fact that when using the Save-as function, the thumbnail was not updated.
I was able to replicate this problem at will. As an experiment, I moved the file onto the internal hard drive and tried again. This time the thumbnail did update.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Setting Up One Drawing In Multiple Screens With One Session Of 2013
Nov 21, 2013I recently added 2 monitors to my set up to bring my total to 3. I am trying to figure out the best way to work on one drawing, with 2 differant veiws on each of the 2 main screens.
I would like my main screen to have the plan view and the second monitor to have an isometric veiw (or whatever I need at the time) of the same drawing. Is there a way to have the same drawing opened up in another window, in one session of Autocad 2013. One on the main screen and one on the secondary.
AutoCAD .NET :: Reading Thumbnail From 2013 DWG File?
May 9, 2012I know how to read the BMP thumbnail (there are some code here: [URL], but in 2013, the BMP has been replaced by a PNG. The type seems to be 6 instead of 2 (BMP), but I don't know how the PNG is stored (I've not made further investigation).

Aug 14, 2013When I click on File>Open The dialog box no longer has a thumnail preview. Only a small grey box hovering on the right that says "Initial View" with a check box. I have attached a snapshot of my Autocad File> open dialog box so you can see what I'm getting on my end.
If I browse for files in windows explorer and change view option to thumbnail I can see the thumbnails just fine.
I've tried everything but I cannot get back my File> Open thumbnail preview.
In Tools> Options I have the thumbnail preview settings all set to save thumbnail preview image. Nothing has changed that I know if for the thumbnail preview to go away.
It's really slowing me down not being able to have thumbnail preview in the file> open dialog box.

Mar 21, 2013I have a problem with previewing of new files I made in INV2013. Old files are OK. I can not find the cause...I also found, that some new files are correct and other incorrect, all made in INV 2013.
There are two types of error:
1) when I pick the file I want to open, in left lower corner - thumbnail window- is displayed text:"preview not available"
2) when I pick the file I want to open, the left lower corner - thumbnail window- is black
In iProperties panel I have checked "Save preview picture"

AutoCAD 2013 :: Setting Up NLM Hostname
Sep 27, 2012I made an image, but we had no idea what pc was going to be the NLM server so I didn't fill in the serverfield. Then I deployed the image to 10 pc's. I got my .lic file, set up a server. It loaded the .lic file, saw I have 10 seats so YAY.
So, when I start AutoCAD 2013 for the first time there is no "Where is your server?". Only registering or activation code.
I verified my image and it was alright (Network license checked > empty serverfield) Will I have to reinstall the images or am I missing something why he's not asking for a server?
AutoCAD 2013 :: Setting Revert To Default
Dec 10, 2013I have 2 staff members who both have recently had problems with their custom settings from OPTIONS revert to the default settings every time they close out of AutoCad. One is using AutoCAD 2013 on W7 & the other is using AutoCAD 2014 on W8.1.
They have to reset their display, units, osnaps, etc regularly. I suggested creating a profile they can use until we resolve the problem,

May 29, 2012We just switched to AutoCAD 2013 and we are trying to figure out the best way to make a note with a leader. So far it seems the best thing to use is the keynote option called TEXT WITH STRAIGHT LEADER. If we just do text, no leader is automatically added. This seems to work except we cannot set the text to a default of arial.
Once the text is entered, it changes to ArchDim instead of the text we created called 'Arial'.
I'm the REVIT person in the office so I'm trying to figure out CAD as I go...hence I need easy instructions that I can try to navigate...

May 16, 2013I have installed AutoCAD 2013 and Inventor and here is my problem. This versions of AutoCAD crashes a lot, usually related to making pdf's, but that, while problematic in itself, is a secondary issue and not the reason for my email. When it crashes, it rests all my custom work place settings, even after I have saved and locked them. Restarting AutoCAD takes a few minutes, but this is VERY annoying and time consuming to reset everything everytime this crashes. I have never encountered this problem with previous versions of CAD.

Dec 10, 2011I am not able to save the changes that I make to the starting position of my scenes thumbnails when I use a Thumbnail Menu to create my DVD. I am using Video Studio X4 with Service Packs 1 and 2 installed running on Windows XP Home, SP 2 with all updates installed and DirectX 9.0. The scene changes work fine when I Preview them but they are not saved when I close the Create Disk sub-menu. When I return to the “Menu and Preview” section of the Create Disk sub-menu, the Main Menu scene change is present as is the Chapter 1 scene change but the other chapter scene changes are gone. What can I do to correct this?

Nov 11, 2013The default file location for the template .dwt file in my AutoCAD options keeps resetting to None (see attaached, red arrow). It should be the same location as the line below it (see attached, green arrow). I have reset it a few times now, but it keeps reverting back to None. Oct 17, 2013I have custom pull down menus that I use for hatching. The reason I use this method instead of the tool pallet or the regular hatch toolbar is that I have quick access to multiple commonly used hatch patterns already set up with scales and directions and can pick multiple objects at once.
The only problem is I loose the associativity when stretching an object. It's Associative if I use the hatch command or the tool pallet. I had no problem with this method when using AutoCAD 2010. Is there some system variable setting that has changed?

Dec 12, 2012I created a model, assigned materials, and it renders fine if I leave the facetres at the default of .5. My model has curves though, so I need to increase the facetres to at least 3 or 4. If I set facetres to anything, even 1, the next time I render, I get the message that the scene cannot be rendered because it does not contain any faces. My machine is a Xeon, 12gb ram, with quadro fx580, autocad 2013 x64. But this happened to me on earlier versions, and on my previous workstation as well.
Is there some bug with the facetres variable?

May 23, 2012Is there a way in AutoCAD 2013 to have it automatically change to a certain layer when you do common tasks. I am wondering if there is a system variable, or a routine that I could automatically load when I start AutoCAD to do this. It would also be nice that the layer would then go back to the original layer that was being used prior to the command. What are my options for doing this.
For instance when I load an xref I would like it to go on the layer; A-XREF. When I insert a block I would like it to go on the layer; 0, when I create a new dimension I would like it to go on the A-DIMS layer, when I create a hatch it would set to the layer A-WALL-PATT, when I add a leader with text it would go to A-ANNO-NOTE, etc..

Sep 24, 2013Setting that will turn on snap all of the time instead of just when a command is active. You can't even tell that snap is on unless certain commands are active. The cursors doesn't snap on the BREAK command thus I can't use a two point break with any accuracy because the cursor doesn't snap until after the object is selected.
I need snap ALL THE TIME not just when certain commands are active.
