AutoCAD 2013 :: Associative Hatching - Variable Setting
Oct 17, 2013
I have custom pull down menus that I use for hatching. The reason I use this method instead of the tool pallet or the regular hatch toolbar is that I have quick access to multiple commonly used hatch patterns already set up with scales and directions and can pick multiple objects at once.
The only problem is I loose the associativity when stretching an object. It's Associative if I use the hatch command or the tool pallet. I had no problem with this method when using AutoCAD 2010. Is there some system variable setting that has changed?

I have a Block (elevation of a typ. door) that has attributes on it, Door Number and Room Name. The door needs to be hatched so I put an associative hatch in, which works fine in block editor. When I type different names and numbers the hatch boundaries resize accordingly.
My problem is when I close block editor and reinsert the block (or ATTSYNC) and edit the names and numbers, the hatch does not resize the boundaries of the new text.

Every time I open a drawing in AutoCAD 2011 it seems to lock all the xrefs associated with the drawing so when ever some one else tries to open one of the xrefs they can only do so read-only.
Is there a system variable or a setting some where I've accidentally changed?.. I can't seem to find a solution or what the problem even is anywhere.

I have a problem setting sysvar like SNAPBASE, which requires 2d point or 3d point. I always get wrong input for the following lines.
double[] point = new double[2] {5,5};
object value1 = point;
Application.SetSystemVariable("SNAPBASE", value1);
what value should I give a 2d point or 3d point?

I have surface associativity set to 0 but I keep getting surface associativity errors.
It is as if turning surface associativity is either not turning off, or is left on for some entities.
How to get rid of the surface associativity for good, like purging or something like that?
It seems that if it is still in operation it is adding extra size to the drawings...

Is there a way to set associative dimensions to be non-associative without exploding them?
I have a large drawing with a bucket load of dimensions. I did not realise until too late that my dimensions styles were set to be associative by default. Now whenever I alter the drawing such as breaking a polyline that a dimension is associated to the dimension sometimes goes haywire. If I select affected dimensions I can see in the properties window that the dimension is associative but the field is greyed out and I can't alter it.
Is there a global or per-object way to change this association? Exploding is not an option.

Associative property of the dimension,I’m wondering if there is a way to “reassociate” the dimension without moving it.
For example, in the attached screenshots, the dimension is moved downward and then it aimed to re associate it with the object it measures. After the association the dimension is moved toward the object. What I wanted is to re associate the dimension to the object BUT to keep it at its current location.

Run Autocad 2013 SP2 on windows 7 boxes.
Anyway, one of our cad operators is running into the following error when he opens a particular drawing or when he audits it:
Associative Network Evaluation Error
The object cannot be resolved or value limit has been exceeded.
Inconsistent associative objects may display geometry and grips incorrectly and update in unexpected ways when edited. You can undo to restore the associative object to its previous state.
From what he's described to me, it sounds as if he is building this from several separate files. At some point, things go nutty, and that error develops. When the file is loaded, things are out of position, etc.
No luck in getting that error to vanish. Told him to add the individual parts one at a time, and saving versions as he works so we can, hopefully, find what is breaking everything.

Every time I open this drawing, I get this error message:"Inconsistent associative objects may display geometry and grips incorrectly and update in unespected ways when edited. You can undo to restore the associative object to its previous state."
I wonder if this is the result of one of the xref files from the civil, and what to "undo" to whatever "previous state" will prevent this popup window.
Previous searches on this error have brought up discussion of CIvil 3D grouped objects, but like I said, these are simply files we've referenced into our landscape base.

We have been having a problem with our leaders for the last few weeks. We are running Acad2009LT and Acad2009 full versions. Our leaders are becoming non-associative. I made a drawing yesterday and was the only one editing the drawing. I made some leaders with text. I know they were working fine because I had to move some text and the leaders went with it. This morning when I opened the drawing. Some, not all, of the leaders that I made yesterday have become non-associative. I made some new leaders and they are working properly. Other people in the office have been having the same issue. Nothing has changed on our systems. We have been using the same program since 2009.

Best practices for setting up systems in a lab environment. We have a lab enviroment of about 200 systems that access AutoCad, Inventor, Mechanical and others.
We need to have a customized interface come up when Autocad is opened by students.I have read that you can do this with profiles and workspaces and also with loading a acad.lsp file.
In the past we have just copied the Windows admin profile used to customize AutoCad to the default profile. In AutoCad 2013 that does not seem to grab everything. It doesn't seem to be the best way to do what we need.
We will also be moving to Windows 7 soon which will also cause an issue.I want to find the best way to do this with out having to deal with the Windows profile.

He is not even picking inside the area where these gap indication circles are appearing. I have had him adjust the hatch gap tolerance but am wondering if I can turn off this behavior entirely?

Is there a way for C3D 2013 to automatically hatch (with a style) in the profile view the area from the FG to top of pipes (Sanitary, Storm or Water). Currently we go old school with isolating the linework in the profile and hatching it manually. The interesting thing is the hatch still recognizes the grid in the profile view even though we've frozen the grid and other linework. AND we must put a line on the top of the pipe, or the hatching goes to the next "grid" of the profile.
Would be nice to get it to generate the hatch much the same way it does for the profile view with Cut area or Fill area or Multi boundaries.

I am accidentally selecting the xref when hatching and thought I remembered a setting or something to where you could make it where the xref couldn't be selected when hatching? I know the work around. Just unload the xref and then hatch, just thought their was a setting for this.

I like that in the hatch command, you can select multiple boundaries at a single time, hit ok, and be done with your hatching. However, when hatching from the tool palette, you can only select one boundary at a time, forcing you to constantly repeat the command. Is there a system variable that controls this type of behavior for the tool palette?

I recently added 2 monitors to my set up to bring my total to 3. I am trying to figure out the best way to work on one drawing, with 2 differant veiws on each of the 2 main screens.
I would like my main screen to have the plan view and the second monitor to have an isometric veiw (or whatever I need at the time) of the same drawing. Is there a way to have the same drawing opened up in another window, in one session of Autocad 2013. One on the main screen and one on the secondary.

We are in the middle of implementing AutoCAD 2013 to replace 2010 so at the moment I am converting / modifying our own code to suit the AutoCAD 2013 API.
One of our routines collects data from drawings (drawings are not fysically opened in AutoCAD) using the system variables 'LimMin' and 'LimMax' in order to collect all objects drawing within the titleblock.
Point2d min2d = (Point2d) Application.GetSystemVariable("LimMin");
Point2d max2d = (Point2d) Application.GetSystemVariable("LimMax");
Only the objects in the titleblock area need to be processed and this gives the engineers also the opportunity to add extra information outside the titleblock. We have used this method in 2007 and 2010 releases of AutoCAD succesfully.
But with AutoCAD 2013 I have run into a snag. As said does this routine not fysically open the drawing in AutoCAD it merely adresses the 'autocad database' so to speak. It seems that 2013 selects the variables from an opened active drawing instead of the 'opened' drawing by the routine. What do I need to modify in the lines of codes stated above to get this rouine up and running?
The workaround for this moment is to skip the collection in the titleblock area al together and select all objects in the entire drawing which does not speed up things very much

My office is launching 2013 and the one issue that is really bothering me is the selection preview variable keeps getting reset <0> and I cannot figure out what is causing it?
I like to have the selection variable set to <3> and my selection cycling set <-2> so I can hold down shift and tap space bar to visually cycle through overlapping objects but this is very difficult to do when the selection preview variable resets to none <0>.
I think the new box popup in this release is very bothersome and would like to figure this glitch out.

I've recently installed AutoCAD 2014 and noticed when I try to select objects behind a solid (in wireframe) it will select the face of the solid and I am not able to select any objects behind that solid. In the past, while in wireframe, I wasn't able to select a solid unless an edge was selected. Now if I click on a face it will select that item, which is not allowing me to select anything behind it. Is there a variable to change the way a solid is selected while in wireframe?
