View 9 RepliesDoes the AutoCAD 2010 have Point Clouds panel in the Insert Ribbon? If it has, how do I put the Point Clouds panel into Insert ribbon?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are using AutoCAD 2014 and one of the biggest selling points was its improved point cloud functionality. I have been inserting a point cloud with RGB color but when it comes in, I get no color. The preview window show it in color, the details say YES that color is attached but all I get is a plain white point cloud. The Visualization panel is lit up and I can change from scan color to intensity and back. It looks like it is working but I get zero change to my cloud.

I have seen that AutoCAD has been utilised to achieve this and wondered if there is any literature or instructions as to how this is achieved? Is there a plugin required that is able to control the Kinect V2 and output point cloud data from scans?
I'm looking to basically do what this video shows:

I just want to create a section from the point cloud, but the point cloud won't allow me to select it as an object in the 'Generate 2D/3D section' dialogue as it's not a solid/surface.
On an unrelated note, I find snapping to the point cloud impossible - is there an option in OSNAP that I'm missing? I've tried this with attached PCGs and RCP point clouds, no difference.
how to match up certain points. I have imported 2 point clouds and have tried to use the 'align' tool to specify three points from the source object (cloud) and three points from the destination object (cloud). When doing this, it does not properly align them. The point cloud makes it difficult to select the exact point I would like to align, since there may not be a point at that exact location, but close to it. Does AutoCAD require the points in alignment to match up perfectly or is it capable of doing a best fit?
Also, is AutoCAD capable of creating a solid 3D piece from the point cloud? I would like to take all of my points and make a smooth object.
I just noticed that 2013 can import point clouds; this is great news.
There is precious little documentation on this feature. I can happily index and attach my points (the scaling seems off...even though I set it to 1.0...) but I cannot seem to do much with the points beyond this. Obviously, I would like to make a surface but the Surface tools don't seem to operate on these points. There were no options during import, unlike other point imports, to make them show as points, splines, surface.
What can I do with these data?
I can't seem to get this working in 2011... the bounding box for the point cloud is all that shows up. How to get a good 3dDWF or 3D PDF of a point cloud out of c3D?

I tried to create a 2d section of a 3d dwg file (imported from Revit)
It kept giving me a message "There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected."
What is the reason of it? It's a 3d dwg file exported from Revit.
Also, can you generate a 2d section thru the xref.
If you can create a solid by lofting between two section, in this case they are 3d polylines, along a given path. The path is at the top of the sections. Using the loft command I have to key in the PO ( point ) option several times to get the path option to show then when I select the path it gets treated as another section. See attached.

Some sample code in VB.NET or direct me to some useful resources?
These dll's are, in my opinion, related to Point Clouds:
AcDbPointCloudDbxRes.dll
AcDbPointCloudRes.dll
AcMapPointCloudRes.dll
AcRevCloudRes.dll
AeccPointCloudEnu.dll
AeccUiMgrPointCloudEnu.dll
AeccUiPointCloudEnu.dll
Autodesk.Map.PointCloud.UI.dll
ManagedMapPointCloud.dll
We'll get a inventor model of the huge cover . And we need to do a cross check old model to new scanned point clouds.
Inventor is not able to view point clouds, so the idea is to import inventor model to autocad . Do a cross check to point cloud notice the changes and put them into the inventor model . Move the flanges in the correct position.
This is the client mail.
iam not understanding this mail. Presently iam using autodesk inventor 2012 .
what is point clouds?
i know little bit of point clouds.
how to start this work. Client is provided scan files.
I have a small app to create, related to point clouds.
I know VisualLISP pretty well, definitely well enough to accomplish the task.but...I can't figure out how to retrieve information on the point cloud's clipbox using lisp.
I know a little VB.NET; I took a one-semester class at the JC, two years ago. It's going to take time for me to get ramped up enough with VB to do this job, so I don't really want you to tell me the only way to get to the clipbox is through vb.
way to retrieve and modify a point cloud's clipbox with VisualLISP?
what the file size limit is for importing point clouds into Inventor? Or is that a how long is a piece of string question that depends on computer ability?

I need to convert a number of raw point clouds into PCG files for insertion into Revit. I'd like to do this ahead of time, and preferably without having to open and insert into Revit. I know Revit uses adpointcloudindexer.exe to index the raw file formats, but was unsuccessful at trying to launch it by itself. If this can be used as a standalone convertor, possibly by combining the exe with a switch and a file location?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo, I we were taught autocad at hour school but not autocad architecture because apparently autocad architecture is too "advanced" for us. so now I need to draw window details (thermally broken aluminum frame window with insulating glass unit) but it is so much work in autocad however I was told that I can just draw a window in autocad architecture and just cut a section and just make a few adjustments to get the window detail.

Is there a way to algorithmically create (no painting or brushes) Nebulae / Wispy Clouds effects in Photoshop. Random clouds and Difference Clouds filters can certainly create interesting patterns, but they are miles away from authentically looking clouds or nebulae.
On the other hand several fractal generators can do the trick - and XenoDream and Apohysis in particular can create photo-realistic nebulae and clouds, but doing it straight in Photoshop would be a good skill to have.
I am looking for something a lisp or program that would do a light point by point of fixtures in a plan.

In uploading the Point input data into the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 software program, is it possible for me to add more Point Attribute items after Point Number, X, Y, Z? I need to have the chemical results/data attached to the (sampling) Point that has the Point #, X, Y, Z - like Point Number, X, Y, Z, Arsenic, Lead, Mercury in the input .txt (or .csv) file.

I want to add a point after the last point of a polyline. But this point really is the first point and the command insert vertex really insert a new point. So, a solution , reverse the polyline to insert points after the last vertex.
Nobody thought ever to offer a insert_first and add_last commands ?
I have a problem with point codes in section views in civil3d 2013. They are not showing at all. Drawing was made in civil3d 2012 and all point codes with defined styles were displayed correctly in section views and now they are all gone. Just link codes are shown. Is there something in setup of code styles that has to be changed?
Even if i set up new code and new label style it does not show up in section view after rebuild. Just in assembly.
If i do the same for link label it does show both in assembly and in section views.
is it possible to create a block so that the base point is the only snap point on the block?
In other words supose I have a block of a simple rectangle with the base point in the center.
If I try to snap to the block, I will be able to snap to all the corners, but not the base point. I know that i can put a point at the base point, but can I turn off the snap to the corners (just for the block) in other words, have an object that is unsnapable to without turning the snap mode off.

I know where the panel object dwg file is for the symbols that are included from Autocad. To create a new panel object dwg for the "Panel Layout" in Acad E, I can't see where it is attached, or how it is referanced.
I not sure I made my self clear enough. I didn't see it in block edit for the symbol.
