Just switforeveched to AutoCAD 2013 from 2011. I kept the classic interface as I did since forever. This is the problem I am having now. After I created a viewport in a layout, I right click on the viewport border fully expecting a menu to come up so I can set the type to be 2d hidden. But nothing like that occurs. The help menu came up. How do I get the viewport menu to set the view type?
View 2 Repliesi have a template, created a viewport and fit the model view in the layout space. However, when i scale the template... the viewport model doesn't follows the layout scale. Is there any ways to fit it so that when i scale the template i don't have to set the view again.

I know that when you create a viewport you can call up a named view, but is there any way to link it permanently?
I'm new to AutoCAD 2013 and I am unable to create new viewports from the "layout" or "paperspace" tabs. The "Model Viewports" are on the navigation bar (the one at the top) but are grayed out and thus unusable and the typical "Viewports" menu from my AutoCAD 2011 (last version I had/used) is not there. I can open the viewports menu from toolbars but am unable to dock it into the navigation bar.

Let’s say you have a large building plan in model space but there is only one small area of the building that the view port is looking at. Is there a way that you can draw around that viewport and then take that into model space and paste it in the same place so now you have the same area located in both views?
At the moment I need to try and work out where the view is by drawing a rectangle around the correct area of the building and this is time consuming.
I could then trim/delete everything else outside that box.
I'm setting a layout - I choose plan view for my viewport, save the template and .... I have set it again to unspecified.
Civil 3D (2013) how much you have to improve....
We've recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2012, having previously used 2008. All our drawings are therefore in 2007 drawing format (not sure this is relevant!). When I open a drawing, and send a plot, I noticed that the linetypes in my plot were strange - hidden lines plot as solid, lines thicker than other lines, etc. I've discovered (from another forum) that the shadeplot type in my viewports has changed to "legacy hidden" instead of "as displayed". When I open the same drawing in AutoCAD 2008, the shadeplot is correctly set to "as displayed". Is there something I'm missing that is causing my viewports to change to "legacy hidden" plot style?
as I'm currently having to (remember to) change the viewport shade plot to "as displayed", or I'm wasting a lot of plotter paper!
I am in the process of creating a .dwt to be used to generate plan & profile sheets. I have attempted to set the viewport type to either plan or profile (depending on the viewport) but it keeps resetting itself to "undefined".

Changing the VP color in the layer dialog brings up the color dialog, select a different color, click OK and the VP Color DOESN"T change in the layer dialog. It stays at its previous color. My units are set to decimal. In acad 2004, the dropdown list showed options like 1"=50' In 2013, it shows options like 1/32"=1'-0" How can I get it to display such as 1"=50' like before?

When I use the SSM and use the "Place on Sheet" command to create the Viewport from the MS View DWG file, it comes in only as a rectangular Viewport. I tried to see if there's a way to draw a Polyline and select it as a MS View but I don't think that's possible.
Any way to do this without breaking the link between the View DWG and the Sheet DWG?

If I activate the viewport and use either PLAN or View->TOP my viewport scale is destroyed, and the view is rotated along the Z-axis.
I've struggled with the old issue of shifting images in rotated viewports. We use georeferenced aerial photography by way of these images inserted into their own drawing and then Xreffed into another drawing for printing. The issue is, the image appears shifted in some viewports. Most of the time it prints fine but not always. I searched the discussion groups and found a post a few years ago that a reply user stumbled across a quasi workaround. When the view command's Perspective is turned on and then off within the viewport, the image appears to be locked in it's correct position, not shifted. I have successfully used this procedure several times over the years until now. I have half a dozen drawings that when I turn the Perspective on and then off in a viewport, the image will not display. The xref is loaded and the layer is turned on in the viewport but the image doesn't show. What is the perspective portion of the view command within a viewport?

In the model space the drawing is rotated so when I draw a vertical line it points up (which is what I am used to). However in the paper space, the drawing is automatically rotated so that north is now pointing up, and if I attempt to draw a normal vertical line as i did in the model space the line now points NE.
How can I rotate the view of the viewport in paper space so that my lines as vertical and horizontal. This would not be such an issue if it was just a plan, but I have drawn sections that just look ridiculous.
direction with regards to developing a fan-like booklet, that is rivetted in the top left hand corner, and opens up like a fan. On the front Im going to have text... on the back i want strips of a JPG image to be pasted on each of the pages...
When the booklet opens up into a fan, and you look at the back, you will see the strips of the image on each of the pages come together to form the full JPG...
I created 8 points (4 locations with 2 depths in each location) in the DWG of my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 project. I grouped these 8 points into 2 Point Groups: Point Group 1-high depth has Points #1, #3, #5, #7, and Point Group 2-low depth has #2, #4, #6, #8. I changed the 2D Wireframe to 3D Wireframe and on TOP view I saw Point Group 1 is on the top of Point Group 2 (because the 2 Point Groups have the same values of X- and Y-coordinates with different Z(elevation) value - see the first attached file. How can I change the TOP view to the TOP-FRONT view by using some Command to get this fixed TOP-Front view thar has the good separation of the 2 depths as shown in the second attached file?

If i do the same task in model space, it accepts the window i select. I am currently using civil 3d 2013 with the latest updates.
