AutoCAD 2013 :: Changing Coordinate Systems?
Jul 23, 2012Is there a way to change a drawing in AutoCad 2012 or 2013 from Michigan Georef to State Plane? Any converter calculator, an add on,etc?

View 2 RepliesI am using Civil 3D 2012 with SP1. When I use data connect and attempt to edit the coordinate system the Coordinate System Library that pops up only shows 5 No Datum coordinate systems. The Datum box under Show is uncheck, unfortunately it is also greyed out and uncheckable. How do I get this box checked?
View 3 Replies View RelatedInstallation of Autocad Map 2012 provides a list of thousands of coordinate systems, datums, geodetic transformations, etc.. but I see that the system doesn't allows editing (they are read-only) and always I have to create new systems, new datums ..Is there any way to make it editable?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm finding myself on more and more sites that use multiple coordinate systems and height datums.
We have 3 on this job. One is the MGA zone 50 GDA94, another is just an offset of this and the third is a strange local grid with offsets and rotations.
We have Excel spreadsheets that can convert between the systems, but that requires several extra steps per point.
Is it possible to define each coordinate system in one drawing so that I could select which system I wanted to use, input the points and then select the main coordinate system so it converts the coordinates directly? It would mean less steps and I would have greater confidence in this system.
We have the parameters for all systems.
I'm enlisted in the United States Air Force and am working with the Navy for topo surveys. I'm bringing my information into AutoCAD Map 3D 2010 and using the coordinate system UTM84-4N. I can't figure out why when I bring in my survey .dwg, all of the points are in the middle of the ocean.
I've tried to manually project the coordinate systems onto each file and reference them. I've changed units to meters. I've copied with base point 0,0 and pasted as the same. I've even opened a fresh file, gave that a projection, imported the drawing from "Map Explorer" and queried "ALL" and redrew the file and still nothing. I've checked the Geo-Markers and they're obviously off. Is there a way to match them and have it scaled properly?
If I set up my Civil 3D drawing in some known coordinate system, e.g. State Plane, in the "drawing settings", can I then toggle my drawing into other known systems, e.g. UTM, by changing the coordinate system under "drawing settings"?
If not, how are the coordinate settings used?
I have a problem with different coordinate systems. I have a drawing in old Finnish coordinate system (KKJ, kaista 4) and I have a point file, which is made in ETRS-GK29 coordinate system. When I try to transfer the points to the drawing, the points will land way off from the drawing or I get this error message "Coordinate transformation from ETRF89.FinlandGK-29 to FINL-KKJ4 failed for point located at {29511662.554000,6948599.365000}. This usually indicates the point falls outside the boundaries of the destination coordinate system". I have checked and the point {29511662.554000,6948599.365000} should be over the drawing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Civil 3D 2012 coordinate systems normally displayed on the units and zone tab of the drawing settings have disappeared. On existing drawings the coordinate system code is still displayed. On new drawings the code appears as a symbol - a period or a comma or something. I can enter the coordinate system code and the program recognizes it.
My Civil 3D 2011 coordinate systems display as expected.

Is there a way to set Inventor so that the sketch origin defaults to the part origin? I find it very frustrating that it always defaults to some random corner of the part's body. It can screw up a part if you decide later on to modify the part such that you eliminate the point to which a coordinate system was defined. Also, when copying and pasting a sketch to new work planes it can be a pain to figure out which point is the origin of the orignal sketch if the pasted sketch is misaligned.
I know you can edit the coordinate system after a sketch is created, but I'd prefer not to have to rememember to do that with every sketch.
This was brought up about 6 years ago and there was no formal resolution

In the second-to-last post John-IV8SP1mentions an option under 'Application Options' for an older version of AI, but I cannot find it in the 2012 applicaton options.
I have some UTM images that I need to convert to State Plane. If I import them into map with raster design and export them to the state plane coordinate system, they work just fine, but I can't figure out a way to get rid of the black wedge that it makes along the edges of images.
If I query them in using map I can transform the coordinate system, but then every time I open the drawing it takes like 5 minutes just to open.
What has everyone else done to use multiple images in a drawing and transform or convert the coordinate system of the images?
A - Autodesk will fix them in a timely fashion during this release - Not holding my breath here
B - Others won't spend hours trying to figure it out.
In my case, I need to create multiple unique coordinate systems called Low Distortion Projections (Google it for explanation.)
Here are the problems identified so far with the 2012 version of the Coordinate Library
Coordinate System Categories
1 - The regional 'containers' that hold coordinate systems definitions. You cannot create an empty container. It requires at least 1 coordinate system definition to be created. When creating a container put an arbitrary coordinate system definition in. This assists with item 2b.
Coordinate System Definitions
2a - Getting started - There is no provision to just select an existing datum or ellipsoid. One must 'create' a new definition that may vary in name only. The vast majority of us using their products will not actually create new ellipsoids or datums just utilizing them as the basis for other projections.
2b - Creating definition - Continuing the definition process the definition needs to be placed in a coordinate system category. Due to the problems identified in item 1 this creates a circular error. The workaround being item 1 rather than creating multiple definitions in the wrong container then going back to fix them.
2c - Scale Reduction - This should be renamed to Scale Factor to fit with the rest of the known world as the value can be greater or less than unity (1.000000) In my case the values all happen to be something greater than 1. While on this subject, the autodesk programmers set this to do something totally unexpected. No matter what you set the value to, if you save and reedit the projection value will be displayed as '1'
2d - Missing Projection definition form data - I went through the projection definitions and found the following projection types were missing their fields in the form:
Oblique Mercator
Ordanance Survey National Grid Transformation 1997
Ordanance Survey National Grid Transformation OSTN02
Got a new Windows 764 bit computer. Installed 2012. Using the Map Wspace to attach jpegs. I connect to the image and go to edit the coordinate system. On the new computer, I only have a half dozen coordinate systems, none of which are PAN83.
I go to my old XP pro 32 bit computer and the whole list of coordinate systems comes up.
I can not change coordinate systems of Surface models and COGO points. Why?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to know why I can't change coordinate of points while importing points from Points menu?
I created new file, assigned any coordinate system to the model. Opened Import points windows there, created new file format which there I assigned Coordinate zone transform to the coordinate system of the text file and imported my text file. But the coordinates of points didn't changed or transformed. When I do it by Survey in Toolspace its works good. I want to know whether I did any wrong or it is problem of software.
I use AutoCADCivil 2013 64 bit in Windows 7 64 bit!
I am having some drawings in CA-III Coordinate system and i want to change them in to UTM83-10F.
How can i handle this in .net.
I´m working with AutoCAD Map 3D 2013 on Windows 7 and when I use Coordinate Tracking I used to get fatal errors. The error occurs when trying to select a category from the list in the panel on the left. Strange enough, the error doesn´t occur when I first right-click in the list.

When assigning a coordinate system to my drawing in Civil 3D 2013, the drawing does not retain the selected system.
I choose the coord system I want in Map Setup and apply it (in this case MT83IF). After applying to the drawing I go back to verify the selected coordinate system and the dialog box indicates "N/A". The only workaround I can find is to save the drawing back to an earlier version and open it on another computer in the office that is running 2011. There I can assign my coord system and then reopen in 2013 where it now shows it properly assigned.
I have tried other coord systems to make sure it isn't isolated to just the one I am selecting - and it happens with all others I try. I have also tried a repair on my install to see if that would correct it to no avail.
I have a 64 bit system and have installed all service packs to date.
If i want to move 2D objekts with basepoint to the coordinate 0,0,0 - what i have to do?
In other PC older Autocad was it simply command "move", selecting objects, pointing basepoint and then typing "0,0,0" and object were there! Now the object doesnt move atall. (Can move only to showing second point in screen-but thisway its not possible to catsh exactly point 0,0,0).
By this I mean, if I set a new UCS with a new "north", can I lock it to this coordinate so it can't be changed?
Normally I would not do this, however, we're working with a company that has asked us to lay out an equipment grid on a couple sites they are setting up, as such: With 0,0 set to a predetermined point, and 100 ft increment grid laid out based off this point, using a laid out line on the site as an east-west, then creating a grid from this line and rotating it to create a "plant north."
Simple enough, except we sent them the dwg of the first one, and when they came back to us with their equipment setup, everything was inexplicably 4 degrees off and they blamed it on us. Oi...
So, yeah, to summarize, we'd like to lock our grid UCS.
We currently utilize AutoCAD for our mine mapping purposes. I recently had a seismic study performed to determine the top of salt. I asked for a .dwg file of the contours that were developed. The .dwg file they provided does not have our autoCAD map on it. They are simply contour lines. These contour lines, however, have the same coordinate system as our mine map. The surveyor and I provided coordinate data to the company to develop the contour lines. I would like to lay these contours into our mine map. How do I import the contour .dwg file into our mine map file so that they lay exactly where they should?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Map 3d 2010 to Mapd 3d 2013 and i cannot figure out how to find the commands to insert images or import/export shp files.
I'm running 2013 in "autocad classic" and did so with 2010 as well. 2010 had a menu bar pull down called "Map" where I could insert an image (Image->Insert). There was also in 2010 a toolbar named "Map" that had import shp, export shp and assign coordinate system.
I can't find any of this in 2013. I can't even find the commands in the customization to create my own toolbar. The commands work (mapiinsert, mapimport, mapexport and ADESETCRDSYS) but i can't find them listed anywhere.
Trying to change the color of a layer in a viewport (different than the default layer color (i.e. model layer color)). Objects are set to bylayer. Changing the VP color in the layer dialog brings up the color dialog, select a different color, click OK and the VP Color DOESN"T change in the layer dialog. It stays at its previous color. Occurs on several machines.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn an attempt to change the unit display on a CC item (from decimal inches to fractional), I came across what, to me, is an issue. In the CC I set the length on a pipe conduit part to a custom column, with the range at .001 - 240 inches. I modified my filename column so it was a string that included the length value at the end. (ie Spool x length).
If I place from CC, as custom, a piece of this conduit, the filename does exactly what I expected. If I specify 24 in the length box in the CC dialog, my filename comes in as "spool x 24"... (or to that effect, I'm paraphrasing). If I do the same thing within the context of a pipe run in that same assembly... the filename, even though I chose place from CC, as custom, and specified a length, comes in as "spool x .001". Every time. And also, any spool pieces generated as a result of populating a route. I expect the filename there to be different as tube & pipe has it's own rules for naming spools... but the description field still generates as "spool x .001".
So, it would appear that the column parameters set in the CC, do not apply at all in Routed Systems? I may have to put this in the idea station... wish I had found it last year, now I'll have to wait another year for apotential fix.
how can i use/activate routed systems in inventor pro 2014 or is this option disabled on the student version?
