We have a problem in our office. In some of our drawings we keep getting a lot of unwanted linetypes and text styles. Nobody is sure where they originated.
We have tried this method in getting rid of them but it doesnt work. [URL]
See attached file.
Same applies with the text styles.

When I open a new template all the correct linetypes are there and the drawing works fine, I can purge and they are deleted if not in use.
When I copy ANYTHING from one of my existing drawings which contains all these odd linetypes then they all appear in the new drawings and they will not purge.
ANYTHING = Text, blocks, lines... etc.
From reading about similar problems I think it has risesn from Binding/Inserting (I cant remember which one I used) of a Xref orignially from Microstation into a drawing I did about 3 months ago. The linetypes have just stuck around.

I have a dynamic block which consists of a number of hatches, polylines and texts. The dynamic block has the property of being stretched and flipped.
Now the problem is that the normal grips which are being displayed for the normal lines, polylines and hatches are interfering with the stretch and flip grips. Is there a way to make autocad show only the dynamic grips.

Is there any way to have 3d polylines show a linetype? I need to have my contours that are created as a 3d polyline show up as a hidden linetype. These polylines came from an aerial mapping and have lots of vertices.

Today I noticed 6 or 7 linetypes that have appeared in every drawing I open and cannot be deleted.
They include "Amzigzag" " Amconstr" "ACISOTGB" and others.
If I delete everytjing in my drawing and purge the linetypes are still there. They even appear if I load old drawings that din't have these linetypes initially.

For some reason all of my linetypes have disappeared, and even when I go to Load, there are no options. The only linetypes available are lines and dashed lines, and I have a fence linetype but it does not show the circular pattern in the fence. How can I get these back?

Ok over the years here they currentley have lots of differnt custom linetypes scattered over lots of drawings. What I am trying to achieve is to drive some standardization here
So what i want to do is create a series of standard drawings with various custom linetypes
So using design centre i can drag and drop linetypes into a standard drawing but what i really want to do is export these custom linetypes into a .lin file
is it possible to do this ?

Is there a way to change linetypes within a certain object?
EXAMPLE:
I want to show hidden lines under another object.
So far, what I do is trim the existing lines and draw new ones with a new layer.

If I start autocad and draw a line then change its linetype from continuous to Fenceline2 it shows up like it's supposed to, a line with small squares in it. I can also change it's linetype to Fenceline1 and the linetype shows up just fine with the line and small circles in it.
But when I call up some existing autocad drawings that have lines with the Fenceline1 or Fenceline2 linetypes assigned to them, the small boxes or circles are missing from the linetypes. When you type linetype at the command prompt the linetypes are listed in the dialog box, but for some reason they are not showing up right in the existing drawing. When I type linetype, and hit the load button, and browse to my acad.lin file and select it, I get an error message of Bad Definition for linetype Fenceline1 and another for Fenceline2 and another for Batting etc.
So why are these Complex linetypes not working in the Existing drawing but work fine in the just call up autocad empty drawing, and how do I fix them to work in the existing drawing?

We recieved some drawings from a client for updating. The Pneumatic, System Link and Heat Trace lines all show up solid in the drawings when I open them up in AutoCAD 2012. We tried opening them in AutoCAD 2004 and are experiencing the same issue. In the Linetype Manager menu, under Description, the linetypes appear correct. Under Appearance, Heat Trace and Pneumatic appear solid and System Link appears dashed (just as they do in the drawing itself).
Here's the kicker. A co-worker has AutoCAD 2004 on his laptop and everything shows up and plots out just fine.

I can not get certain linetypes to start with the same dash length, see attached. The linetype will start with a longer dash then the stated length, depending on the length of the pline segment. Is there a way to fix this?
Here is the code for one of the linetypes highlighted:
*FENCELINEc,EX FENCE X---X---X---X---X---X---X--
A,.125,-.0625,.125,-.0625,.125,-.0625,.125,-.125,[FENCEx,FENCEx.shx,x=-.025,s=.1],-.0625

I created some custom linetypes. When I copied them over to my drawing, the text in the linetypes came in extemely large. I really need to get this figured out as I am setting up a template for a new customer, and they want all these included.
I have attached the dwg for reference.

On pasting items from one dwg. to another and the ucs being the same orientation in both dwgs. the ucs in the receiving dwg. wonders around to various orientations when trying to pick the target pasting point. Objects are 3D, working in that environment. Had no trouble pasting one object into the dwg. as per normal but trying to repeat the process at a different location in the same dwg. the grief started. Ending up climbing walls!! Have been working this procedure for a couple of months and only now this problem has arisen.

In 2008, never had this issue.Just dumb, circles, and lines in a view port, that have hidden or center linetyoes assigned to them. When we go to plot using legacy hidden (this new for 2012?) the plot comes out with continuous lines. These are not solids. Just ordinary line entities. Now, when I change the shadeplot to "hidden" the linetype is shown correctly, but now my entities are coloured, when I just want my drawing to be black and white (going to PDF), even though all of the colours in the pen style are set to "Black".
Has this changed? Is there a new variable introduced?

I'm working on creating some blocks for our office. Basically it is a simple block with a few lines that remain and then a couple attributes you can click on and change. I have added the attribute and all is working well.
My only issue is I would like to make the text in the attributes to be bold. For some reason I can't see to do this. Is it not possible.
Basically I want to try and get some of the attributes to stand out more than others. I tried changing the color and the lineweight of the attibute (which worked the color is different) but when it prints it doesn't change at all.

I have received a drawing from another company that has blocks. When I try to rotate the blocks to an angle through the properties dialog box or by entering an angle at the command line, I am not able to. The value is always set to "E". I can rotate it graphically by placing points on the screen, just not through a key in. It seems like there is a lock on it.

Many of the blocks my company uses were created with the linework within the block on Layer 0, and set to ByLayer.
When I insert it into a drawing, I put the block on a layer other than 0, and use that layer to control the color & linetype.
If I Xref a drawing, and want to turn off or freeze a layer I use the Freeze and Off buttons in the layers section of the ribbon (I'm working in 2012). This way, I don't have to figure out what layer an object is on to turn it off.
Here's the problem: When I try to freeze or turn off a layer by clicking on a block, it doesn't do anything to the layer that the block is on. It tries to effect layer 0. Even if I use the list command to find out what layer an object is on, it says it's on 0.
I found this article that seems to explain how to use layer 0 in blocks: [URL] ....
It seems my company is doing things exactly as that writer recommends. But it still seems incredibly faulty.
What is the best way to design and work with blocks? I always try to avoid using layer 0, but that would waste a lot of time trying to override the company standards.

I have inherited the task of maintining out companies tool palette for all standard blocks. In my efforts I have found a number is issues with the blocks and have made efforts to update the blocks, first using bedit and then by navigating to the palette directory folder where the .dwg files for the blocks are stored. Regardless of these files being changed the palette still inserts the block revision prior to my changes. I have even re-imported the template file to no avail.
Is there a way to have to palette reference the updated files or is there a better way to update these blocks so the palette recognizes the changes immediately?

I am using Autocad 2011 and created a dynamic block which turned out fine.
After making a copy of this dynamic block and doing some additions to this new block (added several flip parameters), I found that when I run my mouse over this new block it lags. I have attached the drawing which contains both the blocks. The one on top is the problematic block whereas the bottom one is the one I created first and made a copy of.

I have several script commands that insert items such as title blocks (xrefs) and page boundaries (blocks). The base point and INSBASE for all files are set to 0,0,0. However the blocks will occassionally come in at different positions. In some cases I can repeat the command multiple times and each time the same block will inset at a different position in the same drawing even though the insert point is set to 0,0,0.
