AutoCAD 2010 :: Turning Off DWG True View
Apr 10, 2013
Last week I downloaded the Autodesk Design Review and for some reason I installed the DWG TrueView as well. Now, every time I open up a .dwg through explorer, True View overrules AutoCAD and thinks it has to be the one to open the file. Is there any way to turn this program off?

When I plot to paper from TV2012, I'm good with monochrome - black lines, white background - awesome.
I would *like*, however, to plot a few things to PDF, but retain the view I have on my display - I.E., lines/labels of various colors and a BLACK background. I've been poking around for a bit, and if there's a way to make that setting, I'm no finding it. Everything I try has gotten me colored lines/labels on a white background.

The Architect posted a drawing that I must print in 2012 format (she forgot to save to 2004). I have tried 6 machines in our office this morning, attempting to get True View 2013 to run. The exact same error problem that plagued my attempts to use True View 2012 are occurring. True View says .NET 4.0 isn't installed. The problem is, that it is installed and running correctly. In two of the machines I went through the repair process of .NET 4.0 to see if there was a problem. There wasn't, no change; True View still errored out before installing. Is this a problem with buggy software? Are there any other options open to me? I don't know why they stopped updating True Convert. It was far superior and not full of programming/install bugs.

I'm working with AutoCAD 2012 x64 and I need a control to view DWG files selected in my ListView. I tried using DWG True View 2013 and it worked well, but this is more than my requirement. My requirement is to simply show a preview of the drawing. But DWGTrue View is an advance control and is not standalone i.e. Users have to download and install its full installer.
This might require some customization to code in order to fix TOP View and do a Zoom Extent: Currently not succeeded.
I also seek using DWGThumnailviewer.ocx referenced in this post but unfortunately, I couldn't find DWGThumnailViewer.ocx with AutoCAD 2012. I guess it was discontinued.
Other option could be to generate a raster graphic file (*.jpg, *.gif, *.png, *.bmp) and display that into a picture box. I tried some code from this thread and this one but at some small dwg files, it is unable to read bytes.

I am trying to create a pdf file from a dwg file, using DWG True View 2013. I am NOT a CAD user, so all of the terms are new to me. I read that sometimes it's better to convert the DWG to DWF first and then convert it to PDF. So, I tried 'export' to DWF after trying 'export' to PDF. In both cases, after pressing SAVE, I tried to find the new file and couldn't. Basically, I am trying to print out a DWG file (that is in color), so when I print the DWG directly, you can't see the lines very well. That's why I'm trying to convert it to a pdf first.

When I try to plot a pdf of my drawing, the elements are distorted (circles larger, plines thicker, etc). How can I convert to a true pdf? I have AutoCAD 2012 student version.

I have to deal with the plans of others, some who change the dimensions through text formatting that I can see are fake or incorrect. I used to have a command that would detect the ACTUAL dimension but I can't seem to find it in ACAD 2010. find the command to restore the true dimensions?

How can I print in black and white while using true colors? I've tried the monochrome ctb, monochrome stb, looking for solutions in these forums, etc. The std 255 colors are not a problem. It is only when I use a true color. When I tried the monochrome stb setting, the fill color on my multileaders did not change.
Also, in paperspace, with viewports that had solid objects in them, I used to be able to print and have hidden lines removed without them showing up that way in the viewport. (used 2008 at the time and have jumped from that to 2012)
I seem to remember that the was a variable command that controlled this but I can't remember it.

I have an autocad drawing that has a building floor plan.
I need to "rotate the building 90 degrees" or "rotate the USC 90 degrees" in order to line the building up to TRUE project north (architect has a Revit model oriented to true north that I need to match when we combine our files in Navisworks)
I have tried DVIEW > Twist.. which I thought was it, it rotated my drawing, but the USC rotated with it. I tried the USCFOLLOW with no luck.
Also tried going into UNITS > DIRECTION and tried VP with no luck.
I understand that I can just select the entire floor plan and manually rotate it BUT, the building is not easy "shape" to work with, so it is next to impossible finding the "center" of my drawing to rotate it (I need this to be brough into Navisworks WITHOUT rotating the file again)
You would think this would be very simple to do and take 30 seconds. I have googled everything with no luck. I just need to change my True north
- doing this in modelspace
- needs to be align with a Revit model already oreinted to true north
- just need to rotate the drawing OR UCS 90 degrees, but can't find the "center" of the drawing

'developing' or 'unrolling' or 'finding the true shape' of a 3D surface? Something similar to Robert McNeel's Rhino3D's UnrollSrf command to flatten a surface. (Is a mesh better?)
I am drawing the frames for a wooden surfboard which has curved spars (the surface in question) which need rolling out flat to make a template. The surface is curved in the XY axis only, so in theory it should be developable.

When I enable the structured bom in an iAssembly that contains an iPart it is attempting to generate all members before it will enable the bom. This doesn't work as the iAssembly and iPart have 1800 variations each. Our servers cannot handle taking up that amount of space. I did the exact same procedure for a different part and the bom did not populate in this manner. The only difference is that the iProperties comment changes based on which part is selected.
Also, description is set using =<comments>
Stock number is set using =<part number>

Selection Cycling: This feature is completely annoying!
I keep turning it off, and after a while, in the middle of a command, it turns it self on.
Is it a bug in the 2011 version?
How to turn it off for good?

Why is it that turning off Hardware Acceleration sometimes speed up a system or prevent it from crashing? This seems counterintuitive. What exactly works with AutoCAD by turning it off?

For those of you using Internet Explorer and who have set Compatibility View (the broken page icon at the right of the Address Bar), try turning off Compatibility View. You can actually open new lines with the Enter key.

Autocad 2011
wondering if its possible to turn off lines inside of nested blocks.
When we tried to do this inside a heavily layered and blocked drawing, it seemed to make the file unresopnsive, unloadable, and general "autocad freezing" issues. We Reconsitituted the entire file from the ground up and found that by NOT turning off these lines inside of nested blocks (ceteris parabis) the file works fine.
We like to turn these lines off becuase different teams are working on different parts of the drawing and we like to focus on one section by turning the other off. Is this possible? Is there a better way to do this?

I'm trying to find an option to hide all constraints in a drawing, I am familiar with the toolbar option to turn display constraints on and off but my issue is that it's not a permanent toggle. Every time I change from a paper tab to the model tab or activate a viewport the constraint display is automatically turned on again and I must wait for the constraints and the drawing to generate. When playing checker I am frequently changing tabs or checking within a viewport, this is adding significant time required to check the drawing. I have not been able to locate a system variable or command to "freeze" the constraints until I want to see them again. an option to allow me to turn off constraint displays as I'm desiring or is this a Wish List item for R2014?

I have been working on a drawing and out of the blue, when I opened it the other day, all this tick marks where peppered all over the drawing. I discovered they were like point marks from dimension layers that were turned off. If I freeze the layer on top of turning it off, the tick marks do go away. I am running an old version of Autocad, 2007.

For example, whenever you use the distance command it automatically turns the dynamic input back on. We have turned off the settings under drafting settings - dynamic input. I have also turned off the tooltips under options - display tab. Is there a patch or update?

I have a logo that is a jpg file Xref'd into a title block xref file. In my sheet files IMAGEFRAME and OLEFRAME are set to 0. They are set that way in the Title Block file as well. I still have some sheet files with these system variables set to 0 that still print the border around the logo.

How to stop the UCS from automatically turning to world when extruding a circle?
Example: If you start with a circle drawn to your set 3 point UCS the quadrants are in line with the X & Y but as soon as you extrude the circle into a cylinder the UCS turns the quadrants to world, I want the quadrants to stay in the same place as my 3 point UCS position.
Not sure if it's just a system variable that need changing.

I am running AutoCAD 2012 Electrical. The source wiring diagrams I am working with have attributed blocks all over the drawing. For my purposes, I dont need to export the data, but I do need to change the drawing. When I use "Burst" or "Explode Attributes to Text" in the Express Tools menu, it does change the attributes to text. However, it throws all the data that is in in the attribute all over the face of the drawing. This is extremely time consuming to delete them as some are micro small text.
I need a command that will explode the attributes to text, turning the blocks into entities, as if there are no blocks at all.

I have a problem with one specific drawing where I have created a right viewport; however, if I double click in the port to enter model space, the viewport automatically changes to a top view. If the viewport is locked, no change to the view. This problem only exhibits itself in one drawing so it must be some setting that is drawing specific.

In the Sheet Set Manager, in the Sheet List tab, if you click on the project name and Righ-Click and select Properties, you can see the file to be used as the Label Block for Views. It appears that there can be only one block chosen.
I would like on our Enlarged Plan drawings to use another block.I made a subset for these Enlarged Plans, but Right-Clicking on it does not offer a place to specify a different block.
Is there anyway to have a different block for a subset of drawing?

I have a 3d object located in model space and have opened up a view port in paper space to view the object. Now I have set up everything as I want this includes several other view ports not showing the 3d object. my problem is that I can use the hide command in the view port containing the 3d object and get the image I want. However switching tabs or doing just about anything causes the 3d object in the view port to revert back to wire frame. Is there a way to lock just the one view port with hide mode on without effecting the rest of the view ports?

Also, my other problem is when i put on realistic view, i m seeing grey-ish blocks instead of "real" materials. In my previous assignment, I did see the "Real" materials when i set it on realistic view. However i did try to reset to default for my realistic veiw, but still it did not seem to be working.
