Photoshop :: Turning Off Compatibility View

For those of you using Internet Explorer and who have set Compatibility View (the broken page icon at the right of the Address Bar), try turning off Compatibility View.  You can actually open new lines with the Enter key.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Turning Off DWG True View

Apr 10, 2013

Last week I downloaded the Autodesk Design Review and for some reason I installed the DWG TrueView as well. Now, every time I open up a .dwg through explorer, True View overrules AutoCAD and thinks it has to be the one to open the file. Is there any way to turn this program off?

AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart Turning On BOM View Generating All Members

Jun 5, 2013

When I enable the structured bom in an iAssembly that contains an iPart it is attempting to generate all members before it will enable the bom. This doesn't work as the iAssembly and iPart have 1800 variations each. Our servers cannot handle taking up that amount of space. I did the exact same procedure for a different part and the bom did not populate in this manner. The only difference is that the iProperties comment changes based on which part is selected.

Also, description is set using =<comments>

Stock number is set using =<part number>

Photoshop :: Compatibility With CS5 And CS6

Sep 2, 2012

I am starting a Digital Media class in college and CS5 is what is setup on computers and textbooks are also about CS5 as well. They haven't upgraded to CS6 yet. I am mainly doing Photoshop, Flash Professional, and Illustrator in this class. The first program we are using is Photoshop. I have just paid for and downloaded the Creative Cloud and everything pertains to CS6.

I stick with using Photoshop CS5? Or can Photoshop CS6 be used as long as I don't use the newer parts of the program?Also will there be compatible issues in say for instance I am doing a project and going back and forth from my computer at home (with CS6) to working on it at school (with CS5)?

Photoshop :: CS2 To 7 Compatibility

Apr 13, 2006

compatibility from CS2 to 7 and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I have a file with many layers made in CS2 but when I open it in 7, they're all merged - all I see is the background layer. Now before you ask, I know about the file handling settings and I made sure I have enabled "maximize psd and psb file compatibility" and version cue workgroup.

Photoshop :: List CS6 To CS5.x Compatibility

Jan 10, 2013

I'm in a multi office environment with a network, I'm the only staff person with CS6 and all our CS5.x users have been getting errors opening CS6 files despite me having file compatibility set to "Always":

"The document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable."Warnings about missing "color books" even though I don't use PANTONE"Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"..I just chatted with Adobe and after a long session here were their non-answers:

"There is a lot of features in CS6 that will not work on CS5 and we will not be able opening the CS 6 image in CS5." "You can disable the Third Party Plug-ins" (I'm not using any)  So let's start our own list of KNOWN ISSUES with Photoshop version compatibilty

CS6 vector strokes. Any file I send with the new vector strokes can not be opened by CS5.x usersIt seems if I flatten all shape layers and smart objects, however our PSDS have hundreds of layers and even with the new search feature this is tedious. Plus you get into having two versions of a final file floating around which is a liability.

Photoshop :: CS5 Compatibility With Windows 7 / 8

Dec 28, 2012

I do not understand the technical side of computers - I just use them for my work as a photographer

I have Photoshop CS5 32 bit installed on my PC with Vista home premium. I am buying a new PC with 64 bit Windows 7 installed, and it also has the option to upgrade for free to Windows 8 pro. Will my CS5 work on windows 7 and if I take the free upgrade will it work on Windows 8 pro?

Does it matter that CS5 is 32 bit and the new PC will be 64 bit? I don't want to get the free upgrade if it means my CS5 won't work on it, as I am happy wioth CS5 and do not need to upgrade to CS6 yet.

Photoshop :: Version Compatibility?

Mar 30, 2006

Unfortunately I only own Photoshop Elements - although my college uses the latest Cs2 (MAC).
I have worked at home (Windows XP) on my Elements (it does the job well). Now, what I was wondering is if there was any way of being able to open my Elements file with the CS2 version? Or have I wasted my time?

I have no idea ......... It is important that the tutor is able to view the original file, so that they can see the layers etc.

I have tried sending the file via email, but there is no chance of attatching this file. But if I am certain that the file will open in college, then I could burn the file to disc?

Could it be a problem because I´m using a 64 bits OS or using Quadcore ? Is photoshop CS3extended preparated for XP 64 bits OS and Quadcore?

Photoshop :: Maximize Compatibility Versus QuickLook In Mac OS X

Aug 25, 2012

I found out that QuickLook in Mac OS X doesn't work properly for PSD documents if the file is saved without Maximize Compatibility feature. If you press space bar, only white canvas appears and not the actual document. I don't want to use this feature because I don't need the compatibility and all the files are much smaller without it. However, as I work with a lot of PSD files I am used to use QuickLook a lot. Is there a way to have maximize compatibility disabled and at the same time be able to use previews with QuickLook?

Photoshop :: Shape Tool Compatibility CS6 And Lower?

Apr 13, 2013

I'm attaching a document, created in CS6 that is giving me grief when trying to open and use in lower versions.  (have created documents for a group of people with various versions)

Have created two rectangle shapes,(white stroke, no fill, shape tool not path) each living on it's own layer, have added ancor points to then delete a portion of the rectangle creating needed opening at the top.

I would like the end user to be able to use his direct selection tool, to be able to increase or decrease the size of the opening as he needs. (imagine if you will, typing a name in the provided opening... different length names need different size openings)

When saved (maximim compatibility on) and opened in CS2 I receive this message:  unknown data has been encountered reading layer (layer xxxxx) will be discarded... continue?

The artwork is all still there, but I loose the ability to direct select (ancor points) the shapes.  Can move it around as a whole, but that wasn''t the perk.

Photoshop :: Network Files - Error Messages - Using Compatibility?

Jan 8, 2013

I use a Windows 7 64 bit Dell at home and at work. Both have Photoshop CS6 (not extended). This week when I saved files at home using file compatiblity (since co-workers in my office are on CS 5.1) and FTPed them from home to the work network I ran into all sorts of issues.

5.1 users reported getting all sorts of errors including...The document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable... and another one about missing "color books"

I read about cross version problems with shapes with the new CS6 vector strokes applied. Sure enough, when I sent CS 5.1 co-workers small test files by email they could open all of them but the one with the shape with CS6 vector stroke. So I went back to the larger PSDs and removed the strokes from any shapes, but the office still could not open the files.

I too, even though on the same CS6 product get an error "There was a problem reading the layer data. Read the composite data instead?" If I click to do so I get another error "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" which is simply not true wince both are CS6

Photoshop :: Getting Image Thumbnail Without Having To Set Maximize File Compatibility To Yes?

Jul 30, 2012

I would like photoshop to show a file image for the thumbnail (instead the generic lines of type). I know in the pref box I can set the "Maximize File compatibility" to "Always" or Ask, and this will save a flattened version of the file as part of the document. But this greatly increased the file size. I did some checking on 10 layered files ranging from 14Mb to 45Mb. The new file size increased a whopping 35% to 88%. That's a heavy price to pay  both on my system here, our back up / archive, CD / DVD burning, and our client systems. I'm in the process of putting together a browser based image library. To render a image thumbnail it shows the generic lines of type if layered (useless), and a image thumbnail only if "File compatibility" is set to Yes. ( Which greatly increases file size, and cost of storage space).

Is there a way to get a image thumbnail without having to set Maximize File Compatibility to Yes? It would seem to me that photoshop should be able to create a small, low res flattened version, at a low quality setting, that would be on the kb in size for a thumbnail. And imbed that into the file, vs the bloated composite. I understand the reason for the composite for file compatibailty with previous versions etc. Just not for creating the thumbnail.
