AutoCAD 2010 :: Identifying Objects That Use Enablers?

Dec 21, 2012

I have a personal block library, that somehow has gotten "infected" with AEC.  I'm not using any AEC objects on purpose - but loading my library file now loads the various AEC object enablers. How can I find the mysterious entity that is using these?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Identifying Block From Data Extraction Table

Mar 21, 2013

I have created a sample drawing, to illustrate to the design manager at work that we can use AutoCAD to assist us with the scheduling of materials, but I am unsure of all the ins and outs of it myself!

See attached drawing to make sense of the following:

Ordinarily we would use a panel reference number for all 50mm panels of identical length, i.e., all 1200mm  panels (our standard width) will be assigned a panel code, often P01... etc etc. From the data extraction (EATTEXT) command, as you can see, all 50mm cleanroom panels under the 'name' column are according the block name, in this case, I've called it "Cleanroom Panel 50mm". Is there any way to assign an individual tag to all panels of equal length, yet maintain the same block - or is this simply asking too much?

The reason for this is that although the autocad generated table is ideal for quantifying and placing orders for materials, we are a design and build firm, all our construction workers will need to be able to identify where on a plan an individual panel is, i.e., all well and good to say one panel is 332mm long, and one is 350mm long, but he will need to know what panel is to be installed where...

AutoCAD LT :: Proxy Graphics - Which Enablers To Use

Sep 11, 2012

I am working with AutoCAD 2012 LT and initially received a message concerning proxy graphics that listed a number of options for viewing when opening a drawing from another source (that was from another and another, etc). At that time,  I believe I chose show proxy graphics, however, I can no longer get that original message to appear, which I think told me which enablers were missing. I now get a message regarding the drawing to be compatible by exploding AEC objects or loading proxy objects enabler. I am stuck, walls have text in them, doors are shown closed.

- I have tried opening the original file again, but no longer receive the original proxy graphics message, just the New version of objects in drawing message. Can I ever get the original message back, have I somehow changed my settings?

-If I change the settings for proxyshow or proxygraphics, these items will disappear.

-How do I know which enabler to use?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Aligning Objects In Modelspace With Objects In Paperspace?

Apr 10, 2012

I'd like to know how to align an object in model space with the edge of my viewport in paperspace.

When I draw, I like to lay out multiple complete drawings in model space, make an appropriately scaled bounding box around them, and then snap a view port to the bounding box in my layout. I usually have multiple drawings lined up in a row in modelspace, so when I want a new layout I do a Save As and then pan around in my viewport to find the next bounding box, at which point I have to resize the viewport to get it to snap to the edges nicely. I really want to be able to to it the otehr way around- while panning I'd like to be able to grab a corner of my modelspace bouding box and snap it to the the corresponding corner of my viewport window. That way making new layouts would be a snap. Is there a way to do this in AutoCAD 2012 LT?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Are Object Enablers Included In The Normal Install Of 2014

I'm preparing for our office wide install of Infrastructure Design Suite 2014 so we can begin training/using Civil 3D 2014.

I’m reading through readme file for the Architecture-MEP 2014 Object Enabler & noticed that it’s installed as part of the normal installation of all AutoCAD 2014 based products, including Civil 3D…woohoo!   Unfortunately, the Structural & Plant OE’s don’t appear to have a readme file.  Are these also installed as part of the normal installation of C3D 2014?  Or will they need to be installed separately?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Identifying Areas Of Widening

Jul 13, 2013

I'm working on a windfarm access road (5m wide with widening at bends to 8m) and I need to identify the areas of widening.

I've got the centreline alignment and created the 2.5m offsets to each side. I have also created widening on the insides of the bends using the widening tools and used a linear taper at entry and exit. I now need to hatch up the portions where the road has been widened to demonstrate compliance with the specification and the only easy way I can see is to export to autocad and use the hatch tools (not tried to hatch between alignments).

Whilst this works it isn't dynamic so if the alignment is adjusted the widening alignments are also moved but the hatching remains.

Trouble with embedded OLE DWG objects in word 2010 not opening with AutoCAD 2012

We have a user that can't open some OLE DWG files from within a word document. He had 2010 AutoCAD LT on his machine for a while then was upgraded to 2012 AutoCAD (non LT) once that was there LT 2010 was unistalled. since then he has not been able to open certain embedded OLE files within Word. Other users that have other ever had AutoCAD 2012 have no issue opening this embedded DWG files.

i found this thread (URL....) which sounds exactly what is going on with my enduser. But the fix provided is for AutoCad 2000-2012 not the LT versions.

Is there a switch to show or hide these object?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Identifying Assembly Context Required Saves

Feb 7, 2013

I'm running into issues with some skeleton parts (with the BOMStructure type of "kPhantomBOMStructure"). When these files are manually opened up by themselves and saved, I get an error stating that "<filename> can only be saved in the context of another document which is not currently in memory".

I've seen other people with this problem in the regular Inventor discussion group ("cannot save changes", "save error"), but with no real solution.

What I'd like to be able to do is find out through the APIs which file this needs to be saved with. I'm worried that I wont be able to get this information since Inventor itself won't tell me.

Lightroom :: 4.0 Not Identifying Duplicates?

Mar 17, 2012

I just upgraded to LR 4.0 and the  identify duplicate function does not appear to be identifing duplicates.

I was cleaning off cards and wanted to make sure all the photos had been added to the catalog  when I realized that photos which have been imported, will reimport.

The "don't import suspected duplicates" box is checked.  I verified one photo, _img_2597.cr2 , was both on the card and in the catalog. LR4 re-imported it - putting a duplicate in the catalog.

I then added some new photos to the catalog and then tried to re-load them: the detection of duplicates worked.  It apears that photos from the 3.6 catalog are the issue.

I have:

rebooted the system
opened up a backup catalog
synchronize folders

All to no avail.

Photoshop :: Identifying Clipped Areas

Nov 6, 2013

What I want to be able to check is the areas of clipping in the shadows and highlights. Now I know Lightroom is very easy in the histogram, having a little warning button that will display when an area is off. What I've come up with so far for Photoshop is that there are only two tools, in the camera raw and in levels. Camera Raw is pretty self-explanitory, but I want to be able to check this in photoshop after I've done some work on the image. So I see that the levels tool you can click and hold on the triangle, and if you press the "Alt" key it will show you what areas are clipped. I'm not sure if I really understand it though, as it shows areas that aren't really clipped, e.g. a slightly darker area of sky is showing as light blue, but not a solid color, as being clipped. What is that?

I think that from the example above that say the reason the sky is showing a little cyan is that the red channel is being clipped in the dark sky only, and not the other channels. Do I need to be concerned about this for a good quality print? For best display on the web?

Photoshop :: Identifying The Mid-tone Of An Image

Feb 7, 2009

As a preliminary to a digital painting I need to identify the overall mid tone (tonal value, not hue) of a color photograph and then reproduce that mid tone in the CS4 Color Picker (or somewhere) so that there is a choice of color tints that can be given to that particular (overall mid) tone. It will then be used to simulate an imprimatura transparent wash treatment over a white canvas (layer).

It should be easy I'm sure but I haven't been able to find a way to do it. I had hoped that Levels might be used to identify the mid tone, and then give it an identifier (?like an RGB number)which could be used in the Color Picker to choose a color with the mid tone value.

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Use AEC Objects

Jul 24, 2012

I am currently using AutoCAD Architecture at work which allows me to use AEC "smart" objects (walls, windows, doors). This is a staple in my AutoCAD experience. I am planning on branching off and starting my own business and was hoping to only purchase AutoCAD LT, vs the mega expensive ACA, seeing as I don't use any of the other 3D tools. Is there any way to use these AEC objects with AutoCAD 2012? or even AutoCAD LT? Or are these tools exclusive to ACA?

AutoCAD 2010 :: OLE Objects Disappear

Feb 9, 2012

I am using Land Desktop 2004 but I am posting here in hope that 2012 users will have experienced this issue in the past.

The problem is thus: I am using the SNAPSHOT tool in Adobe Reader to capture some standard drawings in a PDF to the clipboard. I then paste these captures into AUTOCAD as OLE objects. I have been doing this forever without problems. In this particular drawing when I close and re-open the OLE objects are blank rectangles. The reset button is gray in the OLE object properties so there is no way to reset them. Everytime I remove them and redo the process they are gone when I re-open the drawing. AUDIT runs clean.

If I save it as a single STL file all the objects are grouped, and I cannot select them individually to assign them different properties.

I am using Autocad 2012 student version, and it does not allow me to select any option at the moment of exporting the files.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Flattening Solid Objects?

Apr 5, 2012

I am working on a design project for a class i am in, i need to make a model of the design solution i come up with. since my design has curved walls, how to take my AutoCad model and convert the faces to something where i could print them out on paper and make the model. I need to basically unroll them as if i was flattening them on a sheet of paper. i have tried flatshot and flatten, my difficulty with these is that it does not take the entire object length along the curve, it will only take the distance that can be seen on the screen. I know this is possible with 3ds max as a friend of mine did it that way, but i don't know how to use 3ds max so that doesnt work for me.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Objects Only Showing In White?

Aug 12, 2013

I've recently started having a problem where some objects that I edit or insert, such as blocks, only show in white. The photo I show is an example. I recently used viewport clip in order to add in the detail shown on the top right, and when I did so, the viewport went white, and it has since not changed. It is supposed to show in yellow, as shown with the other viewports. When I change to "bylayer" it is white, and when I manually change it, it stays white. As shown, I've changed it manually to cyan, and it remains white.

I think this may be an obsucre system variable problem, but I'm not sure where to start.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Mtext Objects Slow Way Down?

Feb 10, 2012

I have a bunch of dwg's that were converted from dgn's using Microstation V8's batrch convert utility. In many of them there are these Mtext objects that, when I hover over them, or when I pick them to change their properties using the properties dialog, slow performance way down. I have to wait about ten seconds for the machine to catch up.

This can get pretty annoying since it ouccurs when I merely cross over the objects when I am not in any command whatsoever.

The text objects are referring to a font that I do not have installed on this machine. I think it defualted to using simplex.shx as a result. I did not get any errors or warnings about the missing shx when I opened the file.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Different Results When Inserting Objects Into DWG

Feb 1, 2013

While in model space anything I insert, copy/paste or bring into model space looks squashed compared to the original data. It's like the Z axis is rotated. As it sits all the original data in model space looks fine or "flat" as it should.

When measuring the inserted squashed object it's giving me the correct dims but because it's squashed 18" looks like 12", if that makes any sense. Also if I copy/paste the original data in model space into another new template it then looks squashed.

Is there a system variable or setting just for that dwg that could have been changed?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Invisible Objects In File

Aug 9, 2009

I work on DWG importer and every now and then I come across some files which behave strange. To take as an example, I am working on a file reported to be having unwanted entities when loaded through our importer. This file when loaded in AutoCAD shows proxy entity and nothing else. When I do "zoom to extents" and select the visible entities by selection window, it shows

Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 5767 found, 1988 groups

Now if I do the selection and say "select: all" instead of using selection window it shows:

Select objects: all
5805 found
9 were on a locked layer.
2 were not in current space.

So apparently there are 38 (5805 - 5767) objects which are either invisible or ignored by AutoCAD when I do "zoom to extents".

1. Is there any way in AutoCAD to make all the objects visible?
2. Why "Zoom to Extents" must be ignoring these objects?
3. What is the meaning of "2 were not in current space."? Does that mean, that the drawing file is simultaneously referring to two Coordinate Systems?
