I want to see "resent" fonts when choosing, be able to type letter to get down the list quickly, group similar fonts, etc. Maybe have a magnifying glass attached to cursor to see fonts better.... Why have this not been done?
How to compare two similar solid model and found where its differetiate is, and how to compare two similar drawing let say rev.1 to rev.2 and found where its differentiate is?
How to use the command “select similar” to be applied on a selected part of the drawing? I wanted to use the “select similar” command to select all the columns for a particular drawing on the file but not in all the existing drawings. This is why I number obtained is 60 columns not 20!
Then how to choose the “window selection” in which the “select similar” command is applied?
My autocad crashes when I'm working with many similar objects. As the roof shingles. Even when creating a block with all objects, when passing the cursor over the block cause the system to crash (its even worst this way). It seems that the program attempts to process each tile individually (further these tiles are rounded).I've been working with large roofs, such as 9mx4m.
I've just used the align layers feature to stitch together 4 pics into a panorama view. It looks great except the sky is different shades of blue for each of the stiched elements.
Is there an easy way of somehow merging the different blues so you end up with a consistent blue across the panoramic view?
I have a dialog box that has 2 list boxes. One box has the available layers in it, while the other will contain the selected layers. I want to use those selected layers as a list of layers that will be visible in a particular view port. I have searched all over to find information on what kind of list I would need and how could I use the list with a view port, but all I've found is info for one layer becoming visible.
I'm also looking into "FreezeLayersInViewport" but info sure seems limited.
Somewhere along the line, someone in our office made our template import points into separate layers based on the RAW Description. I would like to un-do this. So far, I have deleted every point style & point label style except for 'Basic'. Inside of 'Basic', the layer is 'V-NODE'. However, some of my points are still coming in on layers like: 'V-Site-'(Raw Desc).
I'm about to start from scratch on the template, however, I'd like to avoid that because of the array of styles that are in it.
Why my AutoCad 2009 will not let me select new layers to a specific group layer filter. It was working just fine and yesterday all of sudden it will not let me add new layers to a specific filter. Is there a button or command that maybe would have changed that function. Everything else seems to be working on the Layer Manager.
I use a lot of Group Layer Filters so I can turn things on/off quickly. My problem is I have been creating my Layer Filter Group by right clicking on the Layer Group Filter>going to Selection>then click Add> then go back to my drawing or Layout tab and select all of the layers I need then click enter. One day my AutoCad would not let me do that anymore, and even after I click on enter it gives me an error message saying the command is still active. Now from my Layer Properties Manager I can select any layer and drag/drop it into any filter and it works, but I really need to be able to select things within the model space or paper of each layout tabs.
I have a company name, a logo and a tag line on my template. In order to move them, to find the best position for them, I have to click on each layer to move it. How do I group them so that when I click on the group they all move at the same time?
As you can see in the example images of the monkey, each part of him is organized in different layer groups. Head, body, arms, and feet. The first image shows that his entire right arm is grouped but cannot be selected as a whole. Instead, only a path from the arm is selected.
The second image shows that the entire left arm is grouped and IS able to be selected as a whole. They're both set up the same way, so what's different between the two?
My workstation had a major reset and my customization (retrofit) making my group lock key-combo [Ctrl+Shift+A] as it had been some time in the past is lost. It has been so long since I meddled with setting hotkeys that I cannot remember where that is done. I either need to know how to toggle the group lock in the "out of the box 2012" or where to set my hotkey prefs.
It is said that a fool's voice is known by multitude of words... I'm just writing this stuff instead of saying it outloud... that's my loophole.

We use AutoCad to name our dxf files for our Burn Table and whenever we get a new part it is a repetitive task to input layers and common text. So what I am curious is can AutoCAD input the layers and text automatically using a Macro?
I want the Macro to put in 6 layers and choose the layer color and title then input text boxes with word in 3 different layers. There will be about a total of 10 different text boxes with text already put in the boxes by the Macro.
I am currently updating and coming up with a better system for are plant layout file for AutoCAD. When this project is complete, it will be set up so if someone needs to make a change they can just make a copy of the X-Ref file for the area they will be updating and hand it back in when there done. I will review the updated X-Ref then switch out the old X-Ref file for the updated one.
Problem: the problem I am having is when I am in the master drawing that contains all the X-Ref files, the layers list becomes enormous. There are about 30 to 40 different X-Ref files with 15 layers each. Those 15 layers contain the exact same information but you have to edit them individually.
Question: Is there a way to make the 15 layers in the master effect the corresponding layer in all the X-ref files? For instance, you hide the “Machines” layer in the master and it hides the “Machines” layer in all the X-ref.
Side Note: If you were going to make the suggestion “use Xbind” I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work well because “Xbind” creates a new layer you have to assign to things instead of making the layers relate to one another.
I have been given a set of drawings (300+) and I need to find where and/or if certain blocks (and other objects) are used in these drawings. Is there a utility program or does AutoCAD have the ability to search a group of drawings for a block (by name) and return a list of all the drawings where the block is found.
On that same topic, is there a utility program that will export all the CAD data from a list of drawings to a .csv file or even excel so I can filter and search several drawings for layers, blocks, xrefs etc.
I have created multiple tool palettes that i load depending on whether im working on a rcp plan or a toilet room plan, etc. On the right hand side it says Tool Palettes - All Palettes. How to rename that to say rcp, civil, etc? If I right click on the right side of the tool palette & select rename it renames all tool palettes to whatever I type in. I thought it might be tool palette groups but I am not sure. I can't seem to set one to be current. The selection is grayed out
I have an image of a beach-house on a deserted beach. I wanted to add a levels adjustment layer to just that area of the image, so I selected the house and the beach with two different tools. After making two different selections, one with the freeform pen tool and one with the regular pen tool, I now have 2 layers, both containing information I'd like to further edit.
Now what's my better option? To group these 2 layers or to merge them into one? I'm an obvious newbie, so I'm thinking that the least destructive way is to group them and then go about my editing. It seems to me that once I merge them, there's no going back. But is that the only difference? What are the shortcomings of each in a real world work environment?
I've created an image with several layers and want to group some of them buthave problems.
As stated in the docs, "You can add existing layers to a layer group byclick-and-dragging them."
And also, "The hand representing the mouse pointer must turn smaller beforereleasing the mouse button.
A thin horizontal line marks where the layer will be laid down"
However, I don't see neither a hand, nor a thin horizontal line.
I see a small scaled preview of a layer, and the mouse cursor turns to acorner, not a hand.
I use GIMP 2.8 on windows 7 64 bit.
I've created an image from several PNGs. I've opened one of those PNGs, saved it as .xcf, and then opened others fromFile->Open as layers...
Then I've created new Layer group by right-clicking on the Layers tab andselecting the respective menu item. Then I've run in the problems, describedabove.
Seems I'm doing something wrong.What?

I am running AutoCAD 2010 full version. Every time I select a line or a group of lines or objects. My program freezes up for a couple of seconds each time, to scan the drawing. So a task that should take 10-15 minute is turning into 25-30 minutes nightmare. Every selection I make there will appear a progress bar and the words "Scanning the drawings..." in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Is there some setting somewhere i can turn this scanning feature off? Is this issue linked to the layer states?
I'm having issues moving individual layers once they've been put into a group in CS5. It just moves everything in the group! Very inconvenient. This hasn't happened to me before or in CS6. How to correct this?
I recently upgraded to CS3, and I'm getting quite frustrated at it.
I am used to having to select a layer from the layer panel to move it around. Now, whenever I click on something in the image, it auto chooses that layer and let's me move that around. I'd rather not have it set this way. I like to be able to click anywhere while my chosen layer is selected and be able to move it.
It's especially frustrating when I have things in groups. Instead of just moving the layer clicked, it moves the entire group.
Is there a fix to this in the preferences somewhere? I've scoured the menus and can't find anything relevant to this 'feature'.
I'm doing an animation for a progress indicator. Basically I have a set of 72 spokes, and I'm using sub-set of these spokes with varying transparency to show the underlying gray layer through.
I've seperated each spoke into 72 different layers, and I'm then manually adjusting each one for each frame.
The effect works great, but I've decided that I would like to apply an adjustment to all of the spokes to adjust their color balance. I've got an adjustment layer, but this is affecting my gray layer underneath.
I've tried layer sets, linking layers and grouping, but none seem to allow me to apply an adjustment to a group of layers. I'm using Photoshop 7.
I suggest having the ability to group layers, such that operations performed on the group would act on all the layers in that group simultaneously. This would allow making a whole bunch of items (each on their own layer), then moving/re-sizing/whatever the whole group of layers.
Im trying to create a logo. I grouped a bottom layer of shapes to form one shape. I also group three letter together. When i put the group of letter on top of the group of shapes it looked great. Then i tried to group this bottom and top layer together and lost the top layer of letters...how can i stop this from happening?
