Illustrator :: How To Remove Artifacts When Using 3D Extrude And Bevel

May 7, 2013

I don't have much experience in Illustrator, and I'm experiencing an issue with the 3D Extrude & Bevel effect. Namely, there are "artifacts" where the anchor points lie on the paths.

Here's a sample:

You may need to zoom in on this image to see them, but there are thin white lines that bisect the extrusion where the anchor points lie. There are also abrupt changes in the appearance of the extrusion at these same points. These anomalies don't appear in Illustrator, and it's only when I convert to an image or PDF that they show up.

Is there any way to remove these artifacts using this effect? And if not, is there a different (better?) way to achieve the same effect?

Illustrator :: 3D Extrude And Bevel Showing Gaps

Sep 20, 2012

I am trying to use the 3D 'Extrude and bevel' tool on a complex shape (a map of the UK)The vector is a compound path, when i apply the effect when its quite small it works, however when i increase the size of the shape the outline fails to render properly and hence is not filled as it should be, there are gaps in the image.

I have scale stroke and effects turned on.If i try to apply the effect on a version that is already the size i want it i get the same problem.

Illustrator :: Maintaining Extrude And Bevel Effect?

Mar 24, 2013

I am currently designing a logo with the extrude and bevel effect. It is fine at full size, but when I copy and paste it and scale it down for another file--a.e. a business card--the effect is lost.

Why is this happening? Do you have to apply the effect seperately when the object is rescaled?

Illustrator :: Bevel Extrude 3D Effects Teardrop

Jan 31, 2013

I am using Illustrator and trying to recreate the following:

This was originally created in PowerPoint - TearDrop shape.  3d effect:  Bevel top type: circle. width 40 height 10. Nothing for the bottom.  Surface material Warm Matte and 3-point lighting.  Nothing else for depth/conture.  I'm not concerned with the shadow.  When I try to recreate in Illustrator I end up with something similair to below regardless how much I adjust things.

Notice the overlapping folds.  This is a single object comprised of a circle and square to get a tear drop shape however when I try to make it look like the above first object I can never get that nice crisp 45 degree line to the center, it is always curved or overlapping, or does not apply the effect to the center, leaving it very flat centered.  Adding light points in and moving does not work and I of course receive the "bevel self-intersection may have occurred".  I don't see a bevel option for "circle" and not sure how else to accomplish or steps that I may take.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 :: Extrude / Bevel / Blend

Apr 18, 2013

Which tool to use and how to use it for the effect below:

I am trying to simulate the radius edge along the curve such that it looks like it is a 3D object raised off the surface with drop-shadow (c). I want to retain the curved line (b) and the 90 degree corners (a) The object has a three-colour graduated fill.

CorelDraw X5.

EDIT: I am a bit closer using the contour tool but not quite right yet and I can't add a drop-shadow to a contour group and I want to make the 'white' section a bit wider.:

Illustrator :: How To Resize Using A Logo Made With Extrude And Bevel Effect

Feb 4, 2014

I design flags for people and have worked with Illustrator for just over a year. Most logo's I've worked are 2D and I've never had any issues that I could overcome ( I learn as I go along) however  I have been given a logo which has the Extrude & Bevel effect on (which I haven't worked with before) (see first image). I have to make this logo much bigger but when i do it stretches and reshapes the logo. (see 2nd image).

The  scale stroke & effect box, is checked. I am working in CS6. So how do I resize this logo proportionately?

Illustrator :: 3D Extrude And Bevel / Isometric Vertical Paths Not Vertical

Feb 12, 2013

While using the 3D extrude and bevel tool, specifically the isometric preset from the position drop down menu. I am noticing that when I expand  the shape (in this case a perfect cube), the vertical paths are not exactly perfect, and are not truly vertical, but off slightly. Is this something that can be fixed or adjusted in the settings, or is this how the tool works?

Illustrator :: How To Get Mirror Image Of 3D Extrude And Bevel Image

Jun 29, 2012

I created a ribbon using the extrude and bevel effect and then mapping it with a custom symbol. I copied the image and then tried to get a matching image on the flipside to mirror it but cannot seem to figure it out. Is there a way to somehow flip the orientation of the image? I tried using transform and then reflect and it does not do anything. I tried to do it manually in mapping and flipping the box upside down and in reverse but it just doesn't seem result in the a reflective image. Attached are the two images I am trying to get to reflect each other.

3ds Max :: Can't Get Text To Cap With Extrude Modifier Or Bevel Modifier

I just sat down to use 3Ds Max '12 for the first time today after upgrading from 2010. This will probably be a simple fix, but I can't get any text to cap with the extrude modifier or bevel modifier. It happens with every typeface I've tried. I even tried using the cap holes modifier. Never had this problem with previous version of 3Ds.

Illustrator :: Adding Grain Pattern - Unwanted Bevel Effect Around The Object?

Jun 3, 2013

When adding a grain pattern effect to an object in Illustrator CS6 I get an odd bevel that surrounds the object. There is nothing in the Appearance window to suggest that there should be a bevel and I didn't add it myself.

Is there some setting I am missing or an easy way to remove the effect? For now I am masking the object with a slightly smaller object but it's starting to drastically increase the size of my file.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 :: How To Edit Or At Least Read Properties / Params Of Old Bevel Object

Sep 2, 2011

In CorelDRAW 12 I created a design with a few bevel effects on simple polygons. I now have CorelDRAW X5 and need to make some minor adjustments to these bevels.

But I can't seem to bring upp the bevel properties anyway and of course canät edit them either.

How can I at least SEE what properties/params were used for those bevels?

It's OK if I can't edit them (even if that would be preferable). As long as I can get to see the properties that were used, I can remove the old ones and create new ones with the same properties (with the required adjustments).

I note that in the object manager, the old bevels appear as "Bevel group" (but in Swedish), while new bevels appear as "Bevel", and the little icon in the object tree is different. The old ones have an icon that would seem better suited for an extrude.

AutoCad 3D :: Extrude Not Creating A Closed 3D Object?

Oct 6, 2011

I am currently working on a playground development for a school project where we have to build a 3D playground based off of autocad drawing, modles, etc.Below is a picture of a "crab see-saw" that I have in my park, and I am having trouble making it 3D. I have tried using "extrude", but, while it streches the drawing into 3D, only the crab's claws become a solid object. The crab's body remains "open".

Crab.jpg -> Normal Drawing
crab2.jpg -> Extruded Drawing

The steps I take to extude it are:

1. Select extrude command
2. Select entire drawing
3. Click top of crab body for designated height
4. Type in 7 (units) as the strech command
5. Press enter

All the lines for the crab body are connecterd and I just can't figure out why it isn't working.

i'm applying an extrude modifier to a simple spline shape, and i am accustomed to the extrude modifier generating a solid 3d object in the shape of the spline, if the spline is a closed shape.

however, in this case, the extrude modifier is generating just a 3d outline based on the spline's shape...

i can't figure out why i'm not getting a solid 3d object since the spline is closed (i checked all the vertices).

file is attached (the spline in question is named "upper side section")

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Extrude Object In Negative Z Direction

Jan 1, 2014

I am trying to extrude an object in the negative Z direction.

Easy to do at the command line by putting a "-" sign before the distance to extrude the object but I'm having trouble in autolisp.

Define points for polyline for valence

(setq p1v p1)
(setq p2v (polar p1 (DTR 0.0) box_width))
(setq p3v (polar p2v (DTR 90.0) val_thick))
(setq p4v (polar p1V (DTR 90.0) val_thick))

;-- Create valence polyline

;-- Draw the polyline for the valence
(command "pline" p1v p2v p3v p4v "c")

;-- Assign the new part a variable name
(setq cab_valpl (entlast))

THIS IS THE PART I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT BELOW ....... WHAT IS THE SYNTAX TO EXTRUDE "VAL_HT" IN THE NEGATIVE DIRECTION?

;-- Extrude the polyline to make the valence
(command "extrude" cab_valpl "" val_ht "0")

Maya Modeling :: How To Extrude Multiple Faces And Get Them To Rotate Along The Center Of Object

Dec 30, 2012

I'm trying to extrude multiple faces, and then get them to rotate along the center of the object so that they can all sort of have the same angle radiating from the center. In the picture, the one on the top Left is my starting point. I would like to rotate those faces, for example, so that they will all be flat (picture on Right which I achieved through vert snapping to grid) but the only results I can produce are the 2 small pictures on the bottom. =(

Is this possible?

3ds Max :: Animate Rotation Of Object When It Comes Close To Another Object

Mar 12, 2013

I am trying to animate the rotation of an object whenever it comes close to another object.

For example object 1 is the needle of a compass, I want it to point straight up whenever it comes close to object 2 (a magnet).

I need this to work regardless of where these objects are in world space. The only thing that matters is that they be next to each other; i.e. just like a real compass and a real magnet. I thought maybe I need a proximity sensor but I can't find any good tutorials on that.

Photoshop :: Can't Animate 3D Object In CS6 Extended?

Jun 6, 2012

In CS5 to animate rotation of a 3D object, e.g. a sphere, I would set a '3D Object Position' keyframe at the start of the animation timeline, another at the end and enter the number of degrees rotation into the appropriate axis text box. The layout is a bit different in CS6, so I might be missing something,

but this does not work for me. If I enter a value in the rotation box the object will rotate to that position, but as soon as I press enter or move the focus to a different box the image goes back to its initial position. On further testing the same applies to translation and scaling on the animation timeline. The same behaviour occurs where the movements are input by dragging in the image rather than text input.

If this is done without the timeline the rotation/scaling etc works fine either by text input or by dragging. However, in this situation it appears that it is impossible to set a rotation 360° or greater. The number of degrees is reduced modulo 360 so, for example, 480° becomes 120° and 360° becomes 0°. If animation inputs were working correctly and this behaviour applied it would prevent animation of a full rotation because entering 360° would become 0°. Similarly for animating greater rotation e.g. one-and-a-half turns would only animate 180°.

AutoCad :: Animate 2D Object Over XY Plane?

Jan 25, 2014

I was wondering whether I can animate an engineering drawing of a vehicle over a longsection (X-Y Plane) of a road without expanding add-ons ($) on Civil 3D package

Senior engineers in our department aren't quite concerned using transparent template over printed plan but I reckon it's primitive and a waste of resources and time.

I've seen videos and forum posts about using scripts but I can't quite see the post I would like to see.

So what I would like to do would sum up as section drawing of a vehicle moving through a drawn polyline. No gimmicks (wheels turning, indicate scrapes) required.
