Anyway, I am rendering a car from the game "Nascar Racing 2003" with 3ds Max 2013 64 bit in Mental Ray. I am putting a custom background to the render, however I can not see the background until the render starts. I need to see the background "before" I render so I can place the car in the right place.
I can see the "background/backdrop" before I render the scene? What options do I need to check or un-check? Maybe just the general options for this because that might work for all the renders I do with pictures for backgrounds.
I'm trying to put a background (a very blurred scenic shot) onto text or onto a (complex) shape. How do I do this? Does it have to do with layer masks?
I'm trying to combine 3 GIFs with one on top, one in the middle, and one on the bottom. When I played the GIF it showed the top one move and a white space where the other two should be then the top one froze then went onto the middle one then that one froze and went to the bottom one then repeated the cycle.
We do a lot of very large site plans with mulitple options and have to compare cost differences for Concrete, Asphalt, & Base Course. We hatch the areas and print in color so it is easy to see what is concrete, asphalt, grass, water, & Base course. Is there a way to create a table that would update the total areas that we have hatched? We make a lot of changes to these plans and it takes a long time to keep adding up the areas that are hatched everytime and typing the informaiton into a table. I have the table setup so once we type in the sq. ft. of area it calculates the totals but was hoping there was away so it would automatically update the ares in the table for us when we make changes.
I've made some customisation in the ribbon of a 2013LT version.
Now some customisation functions are only available on the Full, so I download and install it but I can't find a way to import all those custom settings grom LT to Full...
Seems it works only from LT to LT or Full to Full..
Is there any way to extend the "new document" presets as to include custom background or multi layered file ? I find myself using the same layer folders tree and it would be awesome to be able to start right away with a blank document already loaded with this tree.If complete multi layered file is not possible, something like being able to choose the background from a picture (instead of white/color/transparent) would be a great time saver.
I would like to create a custom brush that fades into the background of a picture. Is this possible and how would I go about doing this?? Any help would be much appreciated!
Is there a way to start a custom line type so that is starts and ends with "O". Right now, the default "FENCELINE1" has circles in it, but it starts and ends with a line.

I already tried just putting the O's at the ends, and that didn't do it.
Below is a picture of what I'm looking to get. The top one is the FENCELINE1, the bottom one is just circles and lines, but that's how I want the linetype to look when they place it... so first click would have a circle, second click would have a circle, and the circles "in" the line would spread out evenly.
Just so you know... this is for guardrail inside a where house where it has the circle pillars on each end with circular pillars in the middle (every 8', but the spacing isn't crucial).
I'm trying to make a custom hatch using circles perforated metal, what that is but how to make a custom hatch with circles random circle holes on a sheet of metal. when i print out my CAD drawing the dimensions are gray and not very visible while the drawing is nice a dark and very visible.
This is actually for R2014 but the same thing happened in 2013. I have several custom CUIX files created from loading MNU files. I use them for drop down menus and toolbars. The load fine but are not remembered the next AutoCAD is reloaded. I can't remember what I did because they work fine in 2013. I've CUILOADED them and saved the workspace. I also saved and reloaded my PROFILE. Aren't the menus saved with the workspace?
My company recently upgraded to Autocad 2013 from 2008. I was using a custom dimension cui file for sizing dimensions according to scale. I have reloaded the file into 2013. However, I am having to reload the file daily because it does not function without reloading. Is there any work around for this?
Is there any (non programming) solution where I can add custom data/properties to objects in plain AutoCAD?
(I know I can in Civil 3D though, using Notes/Extended Properties etc etc)
We want to allow users to add their own unique ID to all their drawn objects, and we don't want to use Entity Handle as that is not anything we can choose  ;-)
We're using that ID to connect other datasources (ODBC) to Navisworks and we would like it to work even from AutoCAD, even though we have Civil 3D inhouse.
We have a 3rd party developing some marketing drawings for us and they are using a font that does not come with AutoCAD OOTB. When we couldn't see the text because of this "unknown" font, they sent us zip file with all the "Gotham-*.otf" files to load on our computers. My concern is probably obvious, that any customer of ours who downloads these drawings from our website will have the same problem with missing fonts. I suppose they could use the substitute font but then we would have no control over what they see.
I've made my own material library containing a short list of materials from the Inventor default library. And I have set my Project ipj to use it as the default library. All works OK. But, every time I make a new project ipj I have to go find my custom library adsklib file to add it to the project. Is there a certain folder the adsklib file need to live in so that new projects will pick it up automatically?
This issue applies only to AuroCAD 2013 64. 2012 works fine.
I have three old custom menus I use regularly. They were all in the MNU format when they were compiled to CUIx.
Let's say menu1 has a drop down menu and toolbars. Menu2 has a dropdown menu. Menu3 has a toolbar menu. They are all located in the same folder.
If I load the three menus they work fine for the duration of the session. However, once I quit AutoCAD and restart, only Menu1 loads. I still have to load the other two again. This is annoying. I have created a Profile and a Workspace with the menus loaded and set both current. Exit and again no menus.
Currently, in our project, we convert autocad model by FBX convertor and load it by separate graphic library(directx or openGL) and then render the model from a specific camera point to get a customized view(image).
Now, I was just wondering if it's possible to create this custom image through autocad .Net api, since the model is already rendered by cad?
How can I stack text in a custom sheet set property without editing custom properties and adding another line. Â The clients name is much longer than normal.
I want to rotate multiple drawings to a custom rotation. I have figured out how to save my custom rotation so that I can get back to it in the same drawing file, but is there a way to carry that custom rotation over to other drawing files?
If we're in a drawing and pick the AutoCAD application button > Drawing Utilities > Drawing Properties we can, and do, use this to enter custom propterties. Is there any way to print out a report of a drawing's custom properties? Ideally, i would like to be able to select multiple drawings and print a report of each drawing's properties.
I have upgraded to Inventor 2014 and I'm having trouble transferring my custom content center library (local machine, no server). Â My understanding was that I copy the .idcl and .idz files from the old folder to the 2014 folder, open the projects dialog box, configure content center libraries button, and use the update tool button.
However, in the configure libraries dialog box my custom library doesn't even show up in the list along with my ANSI, ISO, "My Library", etc. Restarting Inventor didn't work.
I am using AutoCAD 2014 and trying to create custom buttons as a short cut link to open external files, such as a link to company standards, osha, or any file in general. I basically justa want to be able to open the file from with-in autocad. Like a hyperlink without having to click an object.
I'm tasked with setting up a new dwt file to be used along with the Sheet Set Manager.
I've got as far as adding in my own custom properties at both the Sheet Set level (things like project name, site name, etc.), and at the Sheet level (drawing title).
But more specifically, at the Sheet Level, I want to be able to facilitate having a multi-line drawing title. Things start to get a little cloudy.
In order to be able to control where the line breaks are, I've simply created 5 fields (3 for an odd number of lines, 2 for even), and I want to set their Default Value so they don't display anything, i.e. a space or blank of some kind, instead of the four dots. So when I want to add the title I go to the Sheet properties and change the value.
I thought it'd be as simple as adding the ASCII code for a space (U+00A0) into the Default Value, but that seems to display the text U+00A0 instead of the space.
