3ds Max :: How To Make A Plane Cast A Shadow
Nov 29, 2012
I am using mental ray. I created a standard primitive plane and added a material to it. I created a daylight system. The plane, however, is not casting a shadow. What do I need to do to make it cast a shadow?

Any tips on making the shadow cast work? I have a background piped into action and some 3d text with a light. I add the shadow cast to the light and there's no shadow. Will the shadow cast on a backgorund or does a shadow need other media (not a background) to cast on?

how to cast shadows onto a plane and not have the plane render so the background has the shadow overlayed on it?The top has the plane not renderable and the bottom is set to renderable under obj properties render control. Attached is a image that hopefully will enplane my question. I wish for the cast shadows to appear that they are on the back ground image which is the wood flooring.

In PS CC, is it possible to render a 3D shadow + reflection, but have the object that is casting it invisible? So the end result is a shadow/reflection on it's own separate layer?

LR4.2 gives some ugly magenta color cast on deep shadows especially at high iso pictures. Nikon Capture NX2 gives them too, but not so heavy. If I push the shadows at iso 1600, they are all magenta. Is it related to the beta state of the D600 support? My D700 is at iso 3200 in deep shadows completely black (only luminance noise), even pushed. Is there a possibility to correct that issue with LR (high iso blackpoint correction)? The shadow color tint correction from the calibration option is not really a solution, because it does not only correct the deep shadows, so the other shadows get a green tint.

I'd really like to create an animated shadow cast down on the ocean floor by the waves above. That nice ripply effect where the light peaks through the waves onto the sand below. I need it to animate too, I think that will be very hard.
I can't post links at the moment but a simple Google image search of "stingray ocean floor" should yield some nice examples. I can't actually find any tutorials similar enough to adapt for this purpose. (I'd like to have the light ripples as the transparent part, and the shadows varying shade of grey to black)

Is there any way to make a vertical or horizontal section plane of 3d solid leaving the rest of it like a solid?
Often I need to do pretty much complex view in which the same solid should be sectioned for half part of it and be solid for the rest. It is a common way to present solid draw but I can't do it with autocad 2013.

I have the German version of Inventor 2014, so some translations may be different.
I want to project a text on a sketch onto a conical surface. The error message is that the chosen surface wasn't tangential to the profile plane. I found no way to rotate the plane.
How do I project my profile onto the conical surface or How do I make the profile plane tangential to the conical surface?

what's the easiest way to make a paper curl shadow? seems like it is common on Mac's and when using Keynote on the Mac I was thinking of using the mould tool to create a shadow and then put that behind my screenshot, but if there is an easier way, I would love to know. One that looks like the attached.

When using the perspective grid tool and type, I have a word on the right side of the grid in perspective, and I want to make a shadow of this word flat on the bottom grid. (Like how a tall building casts a shadow flat on the ground)
I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.

After upgrading PS CS6 to 13.0.1, HDR Pro now renders terrible colors. The reds seem to be missing and there is a pea-green cast to everything. The screen capture from LR shows two 32-bit images made from HDR Pro the one on the left was created 9/19/2012 on the right was created 10/27/2012 after having upgraded CS6 and LR4. The color space in Photoshop is Prophoto

I planned to set up an easy way to lighten my scene. So I actually wanted to use the Skylight as I did with 3DS Max 2008.Since I have not used 3DS Max for a while and now ugraded to version 2011, it seems as if I forgot how to use the Skylight.Unfortunately I am unable to check the Cast Shadows box in the render menu.

I'm trying to add a color cast to a grey, contoured button shape (defined by a vector mask), by overlaying it with an adjustment layer with a solid green fill and setting the blend mode to "multiply."
The shape layer has transparent pixels around the perimeter, so I would not expect a "multiply" operation to result in visible green there. But it does. That's no good. I need to export this image to a PNG with the transparency intact.
I can see that the green adjustment layer has a "Color Fill 1 Mask" channel, but copying the shape layer and pasting it into that mask channel doesn't seem to work. The display shows a very thin outline of the vector shape, but I can't appear to do anything with it.

I get great results with CS4, and Epson R2880 and calibrated monitor and paper profiles: prints just like the monitor only a little darker but I can handle that. "Upgrading" to CS6 with everything else unchanged and the prints have a muddy green cast. Currantly the "solution" is to manipulate in CS6 and print from CS4.
