3ds Max :: Can Flat Rectangular Polygon Be Changed Into Curved In Horizontal Direction

I have been practicing my modeling technique and decided to create a faceted round gemstone model. I started with a 16 sided cylinder and manipulated the vertices until I had my model. However, it is supposed to be a round gemstone and not one with 16 flat sides. Everything worked as far as creating all of the facets except in the "girdle" area. This is the area that joins the top and bottom halves together and is the only part that is supposed to be round. What I need to do is to make each of the 16 rectangular polygons curved in the horizontal direction and leave them flat in the vertical direction.
Is there anyway to change a rectangular Mview to a polygon one. I have all the text and call outs and now the engineer wants to blank out everything behind the match lines. I will probably never make a rectangle mview again.
Any work around for rectangular patterns in assemblies?
I want to pattern a screw using an existing Part Feature Pattern; I have figured out depending on how the part is assembled you get two outcomes and if the part is mated opposite side to how the feature was patterned you get the parts going the wrong way (see attached pic).
Is there a “flip direction” option anywhere or do you just have to be super diligent on how the seed feature orientation is in relation to the assembled pattern?
I have drawn a rectangular double curved roof (hyperbolic paraboloid). Did that just by adjusting shape handles up and down in diagonally opposite corners.
I want to draw a grid on it mostly as a graphical thing, so its shape is evident. Have tried model lines which won't attach even when grouped.
In previous versions I could create a flat polygon mesh by typing "3D" and have an option to create a planar mesh "M" X "N" by specifying the 4 corners along with M and N. I don't see a way to draw this mesh in 2012 without having to ID every vertices. This procedure is listed in the Legacy portion of Help, but I do not see a way to do it.
1.) How do you recommend I model a rectangular spring? 2.) How do I apply the concept from the initial question and apply a curve to the spring? 3.) How do I mimic the properties of a spring in animation?
I want to create a rectangular picture but I want quite pronounced curved corners
I now I can change all the corner pixels to a differant colour ot make them transparent but as I want to do this to lots of pics I am hoping there is an easier way.
I often use my digital camera to take pictures of flat, rectangularobjects, like framed paintings on a wall, book or album covers, orpages of documents. Of course, I can't take these pictures straighton and perfectly level, but that's OK. I know what the dimensions ofthe objects are, so I can just correct the perspective in software.
In Graphic Converter (a Mac OS X app), I just use the "Unskew"function. I simply need to select the four corners of the rectangularobject I photographed. (Guide lines connecting the four points to locate them.) After I've located the four corners, I tell it to"unskew" and a rectangular image is produced.
Does Gimp have any function like this? I found the perspective tool,but that requires me to manually shift the perspective and eyeballwhen I think a rectangular image is produced. That's not nearly as convenient.
and probably more, but when you consider how little functionality the loss of those three buttons give me, you can understand how little use I am getting out of CS6 so far.It makes no difference whether I use 32-bit or 64-bit.

I sometimes get a message on load saying that Photoshop cannot find my 3D settings (although my Graphics card has 3D capability), but as I'm not using Photoshop's 3D editing tools, this is no issue to me at present.
I am trying to create a command to display the bend information in the model Flat pattern. We do not always create a Idw for parts that we have special dies to form. This creates a problem though if the flat pattern bends are the wrong direction because then it is lasered with the bad side of the material to the outside of the part. The only way to know the bend direction is to create a view on an idw just to check this.
I want to open the flat pattern in the ipt and invoke a command to display the bend information on the screen. Need getting a collection of the bend lines in the flat pattern?
I would like to know how to draw this pipe as shown in this picture below. Draw a 3d pipe with horizontal curve and vertical curve elements combined. Here are the design elements
for the horizontal curve for the vertical curve radius=30.798m radius=18.000m angle=29deg angle=60deg
The diameter of pipe that i am trying to draw is 5 meters.
How do I make my text curved on the bottom and flat on top? I have used the fit to path feature for the bottom curve, but I need the top of the word to stay flat.
We have an interior space built out for a commercial project incorporating curved walls in 3D. We need to generate a 2D drawing to be turned over to the on-site architect. Generating a 2D section yeilds a faceted wall. AECFACETDEV has no effect on the curve quality. Is there a control for Horizontal section? Walls do not show up using flatshot so that is not an option.
If you look in the attached PDF, I have an elliptical wall that also has changes in elevation. call it a compound radius if you will. What I have to do is to make a wall cap to go on top of the wall. I know, sounds fun.....I have the surface on the right of the PDF and i need to figure out how i can take that shape and have it lay flat so that i can cut this shape out on my CNC. i know I can use the FLATSHOT command, but this will not give me the true shape of the board.
I have created a linetype with the text GAS OPTION in it. The line is continuous with a break around the text. In a straight line the linetype works fine (breaks around the text etc). However, when I use a polyline and spline the line for a curved line the text aligns with the direction of the line at the start, but when the line bends, the text suddenly changes direction and reads in the opposite direction. It looks like AutoCAD is trying to keep the text upright rather than following the direction of the line. When the text changes direction it also changes its insertion point and overlaps the continuous part of the line. I have 2013 AutoCAD.

I have cut several sections at different points along a road alignment. The sections are cut facing the same direction as the alignmnet. Is there a way to reverse the section direction without changing the alignment direction?
I have a path with a smooth point. The two direction points form a direction line with any non-45-degree-angle - say 11.8 degrees. I want to drag one direction point while keeping the angle of exactly 11.8 degrees.
I have a drawing of a stone railing section and I have to change direction in the run direction of the baluster panel. Is there a way that I can move the details without changing th Y direction of the details. Please refer to the attached CAD file for details. How to create a flow arrow label for a feature line that parallels the curve?
I've a vague notion that this could be done with a dynamic block and a few fancy expressions. I'm comfortable with expressions, but I've never used dynamic blocks at all, so I wouldn't know where to start.
To be clear, I know curved text is possible, but I'm looking for a curved line (ie an arc) that would look 'parallel' to the arc of the feature line (ie have the same centre point). This would have to be dynamic to allow for different radii and for flipping to the left and right side of the feature line.
Having a time getting ribs to align 2m below top of ridge beam, and connect to curved wall below. I created one, then arrayed, but the radius changes at each 2.5 degree interval. I don't think I should have to calculate the % radius change to get the beams to do this. Some constraint button maybe?
Not sure if editing a wall profile is the best way to model this, but it's working.
I want to extrude a big number of pillars to a rather complicated surface and that works out fine. But each end of the pillars warps around the surface and I want them just to go up to it and stop with a resulting horizontal face.
I can't find a way to create multi flat patters in one part from a lofted sheetmetal part. Also, didn't the developers fix the 'can't make a flat pattern from a derived part'?

I am currently working in a facade that has a stylized gondola on it. The gondola has curved walls for the sides, and I need to have the curved cut to give it the shape. The tools I know are for straight walls, not curved. and the Opening/wall makes a squared opening, not curved.
I am trying to export geometry found in a flat pattern sketch overlaid onto the flat pattern.
Since I am creating the output file manually I gather the flat pattern boundaries and bend center lines for output to a file.
When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly. What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?
So Im trying to make a star wars racer. Im currently making the shell of the engine and for some reason a single polygon deletes outside of a selection. Its weird because I shift click the polygons i wanna delete to delete all of them in a line so i dont have to delete 1 by 1 and for some reason that 1 polygon outside of that strip deletes too.
Im new to 3ds so how to add that polygon back? It was too far back for me to simply undo this so I need a way of attaching a new polygon onto that object.
include a polygon with desired form into existing polygon? There is a box (Editable Poly) and text (Editable Poly). What I need is to make text polygon part of upper polygon of the box (and to extrude it inside). I can do it by other means, just curious. Guess "including" is not correct term for what I ask
Just purchased as graphics card and having problems setting it up but then I'm not that good at understanding the necessary set up to get rid of the edge. Much rather model with just polygons.
3DS Max 2011. When in to customize > Prefetence Settings > Viewports. Adjusted the drivers to OpenGL and the picture I am using to model becomes so distorted that I'm unable to use it. So if I use Direct3D, DirectX 10.0, the picture shows the fine however I end up with the edge showing through the polygons which bothers me. Is there a way to get rid of the edge going to the polygon or do I have to just put up with it.
How to split polygon?I am using "bpoly" function when I split the polygon but It's inconvenient. Any better way to split polygons?I go over the functions through help desk.
