A while back I thought I saw a tutorial on how to reflect, mirror, text, but can't seem to find it now. I just want to show a reflection of a text phrase, the reflected text would have a gradient, to give the reflection a subtle effect. Once the text text is rotated I don't know how to "skew it' at the desired angle.
I just installed Xtreme 5 and am impressed. I have a hard time to learn it and wonder what would be a good way to master this wonderful program.
For example in the 3D Extrude Tool>Textures&Photos section I would like to reproduce the example but how do I use the Selector tool to make the reflection?
Today's challenge was to create an artificial reflection beneath an irregularly shaped object.
In the past I've been asked to add reflections where the reflection is simply a plane that cuts horizontally across the entire object (example 1), and where the object to be reflected is skewed (example 2) - both operations are pretty straight forward...
Example 3 is the object (a duvet) to which I had to add a floor reflection. I did come up with a solution, which I am reasonably happy with, but would love to see what methods other people use! I guess my attempt is OK because the texture and shape of the duvet is fairly forgiving!
Do you have a better method for these irregular floor reflections?
Example 4 is perhaps the trickiest I can imagine as the entire object is curved and the texture uniform so a bodge job will be very obvious!
Perhaps this can't easily be done in Xara - I imagine it could be painted in a bitmap package or rendered with a 3d package... or photographed with a reflection in the first place!
I have composed a scene in action that contains 3d text with a reflection layer. I animated the reflection to keep the part of the image that I want to appear on the letters in view. Everything looks ok when I step through in action or click preview, but comes out wrong when I render.
It looks like there may be some sort of timing issue, so I've checked for slip and TW problems and found none. I've also checked for transitions on other axes that might cause a problem and see none. Is this a bug?
1. What does this metadata phrase mean: "Return light detected, compulsory mode?" The specific image matters little but I am looking at one taken with a Nikon D700 and a SB900 flash bounced from an umbrella with the unit connected to the camera with a SC28 cable.
2. Is there a reference source for the properties in the metadata fields?
I tried putting it in its own directory and adding it in options...won't show up in plugin list.I tried putting it in the same directory with Xenofex which works - Eye candy won't show up in plugin listI tried putting Eye Candy in the PSPlugins of the XD Pro 7 directory - still won't show up..My other machine uses Vista and it works on that machine...but not Win7 Home Premium.
In CS5, if I had Text Layers and changed the text on the layer (by double-clicking the "T" icon of the specific Layer in the Layers palette), the name of the Layer would change to reflect the new text I entered.
For some reason this behavior is gone in CS6. So, for example:
• I have a Text Layer with the word "Email" on my canvas. The Text Layer name also reads "Email". • I double-click the "T" icon of the Email Layer to edit the text on canvas. • I enter new text, "Contact". The text on canvas updates to "Contact", but the Layer Name remains "Email".
So, for accurate Layer names, I find myself having to change the text twice: once on the canvas, and then manually updating the Layer name as well. Is there an option or preference somewhere that I'm missing that would re-enable the behavior from CS5?
I would like to know how, if possible to make the attributes of a block show up as text. Example:
I am working on a power utility design where each power pole has a sequential name and may or may not have units that need to be added into a contract. I have my attributes set up where I can go in and assign a required number to a unit so I can export my data into excel. The problem I am having is that I have to enter the text and change the attribute quantities separately. Also, there are 40 or so different units and only a few certain ones required at each pole. Is there a way to set the attribute only to display text if the quantity is greater than zero so my list is not 40 units long at each pole?
I follow the tutorial in the Xara Help, but cannot get the results shown. I draw the circle, compose the text, and set it to the middle Select both circle and text Arrange/Fit Text to Curve....the text appears around the lower, right side of the cirle After all this I am unable to manipulate the text (It's a piece of cake to do this in Publisher 2010, but it has some minor problems in appearance)
Using the horizontal text tool I can make a text box, but no text-blinker shows up in the box and when I type no text will appear. Although, in the Layers pannel on the right side it does name the layer whatever I have typed so why won't it show on the picture? Even if you make all other layers invisible the text layer still does not show up on a blank background.
Is it possible to have a dynamic block with text which, when inserted into a drawing, will show the text orientation matched to the layout? I have a non-dynamic block which is simply a donut and a piece of text. When I insert it into a drawing, the text orientation will change to suit the orientation of the layout. I created another block with the same entities but I also added a couple of lines extending out from the center of the donut. I added stretch and rotation actions in order to rotate and stretch the lines. I also gave the block visibility states so that either one or two lines would appear (the block is a utility pole,by the way, with the lines representing guy wires). When I insert the dynamic block into a drawing, I cannot get the text to match the orientation of the viewport. I've tried changing different combinations of settings but the text won't appear horizontal.
The two blocks I mentioned above are inserted into one file with a number of other blocks. When I check the properties of the non-dynamic block, the "match orientation" is set to YES. I cannot, however, change the "match to orientation" setting to YES on the dynamic block. Is this simply because it is a dynamic block or am I missing something? I don't create a lot of dynamic blocks and therefore I am not a wizard at it so I am assuming I am doing something wrong.
I endlessly find that I have text line objects which I later wish had been proper text areas (because I want to control the size of their bounding box, for example).
Is there any sensible way to convert a text line object into a text area object - it's a bore to do it by creating a new text object and then cutting and pasting the text, and it is seemingly a trivial thing for the software to do automatically.
Alternatively, is there an option (perhaps a hidden one) to have all text objects created as areas rather than lines?
Is it possible to change the alignment of text within a text area?
By default the text is located top left. Horizontal justification can make this top center or top right, but how about bottom left / center / right or even middle left / center / right?
I permit to come for a new question that concerns the exporting solution in Xara (I have Designer Pro version) in PDF/X mode.
I have some work to do (in Xara as it is my favorite tool), and have to export it 100% correctly in PDF mode for external collaborators, for allowing them to open it and use it in Illustrator software (that's for webdesign : I made the template and external people must be able to use them, in illustrator - or photoshop, it depends). But I get strange results with the texts, with the advanced PDF/X export solution of Xara (the rest is ok).
I can't get a text that can be simply editable when opening illustrator soft. Instead of a rich text editable, in an entire paragraph, I get :
- a "word by word" or "sentence by sentence" editable text. <- that's the best case, but happened only with very simple files, with only few words in it - a "letter by letter" editable text <- that's unfortunately the more frequent case. If there is a little "too much text" (?!), is works like this.
I send 2 files of examples I made. One simple (with texts, shapes,...), another a very few more complex : just longer texts (only 2). And then the "non editable text" appears : you can select only the letters, not words or better : paragraphs.I put the 2 xara files, and the 2 pdf/X exported files. (I precise the option "convert text into files" is, of course, not effective).
I am trying to save a line of text in PGD6 as a PNG so that it will have transparency. However, each time I export as a PNG and open as an image in my web design software it has a white background and is not tranparent. how to get it truly tranparent?
I just purchased CS5.5 and in photoshop the text doesn't appear after I create a transparent banner and try to use the type tool. I tried reseting the tool and resetting the preferences as advised online. The tool worked fine last week.
i am having a problem with my photoshop cs2. this just started earlier today. i can create a text box, but when i go to type, nothing happens - it won't let me type anything. i have tried resetting the tools, clearing preferences and uninstalling, and reinstalling.
Today I just realised clipview can be used with text. Probably something most know already, but I didn't expect it to work and was pleasently surprised when it did. I have to say clipview is one very useful feature that I find myself using more and more. And it's a great way to chop up quick shapes but still keep them as quick shapes.
If I type some text, then select the 'Selector Tool', then use the middle 'bounds handles' to resize.I would expect the text to be stretched. But, what I get is resizing in both horizontal and vertical directions. As if I was using the corner 'bounds handles'.
It works as I would expect in Designer Pro X.Is there a setting I've missed somewhere?
I am having difficulty with the pdf export settings. It seems like it is working fine but text will not show up when viewed on Apple computers/ipad/iphone. Pdf opens fine on my windows system.I know that I can "print" to a pdf viewer like "cute pdf" or similar but those viewers distort and cut off pages and are a general pain to use with xara.
I could also convert the text to "editable shapes" but then all the 'l' 's look terrible and the text generally looks very rough and horrible.
I can't get the text to repel under my graphic. I took the attached out of a much larger web page, it behaves here just like it does on the other document - that is the text won't repel. I must be missing something, usually this works perfectly for me, but for some reason it isn't here.
I used XPGD7 to do some simple text w/ shadow and added it to my website (as an h1 tagged page heading). I do not pretend to be a graphic designer and would like a designers eye to tell me how to spice it up. Perhaps emboss or engrave? How can this be accomplished?
May I add the url of where it's posted so you can see it on the website (site not built w/ Xara).
I am wondering how, for example, I could fill the letters of text with a pattern or texture or image (...) I found on the internet (google images for instance). For example, I found a knit pattern I like and I want to fill the text words with that. How would I go about that?
In general, I am having some problems getting onto how to import various fonts, textures, etc.. that i find.. I've read the instructions and can't figure out where to place the folders, etc.. Any links to very detailed instructions would be great..
