VideoStudio :: X3 Stuttering MPG Output
Feb 10, 2013
I have a project with a number of mpg files in it. These mpg files were created using X3 from mts files.
I have done this many, many times. I created an mpg a few weeks ago without problems. Now, all of a sudden, I try to make the same mpg files and the exported video will stutter in places. It doesn't matter how many times I render the same project, the video stutters in the same exact spot. Like I said, I've done this many, many times and never had this problem.
what may have changed or been installed on my computer recently to cause this? I even reinstalled X3 with no luck.

I own a copy of Corel Video Studio Pro X3. Since installing the patches for it, the sound stutters on the finished videos that I make. Original files are fine. I had this problem on the previous computer I used this program with, and after searching this forum, found a hotfix for it. Unfortunately the hotfix link is no longer working.

I am having trouble with stuttering video/audio while playing WMV files in VS Pro X5 SP1. Any clip which I try to view will stutter on playback (sounds like a scratched/dirty CD). These files play fine in Media Player Classic. Other file formats (e.g. mp4) play fine in VS, it is just WMV files that are doing this. I don't get any errors, it just doesn't playback correctly.
The WMV files were created within this installation of VS Pro X5 SP1. The original source varies. I've started with .MTS files from my Canon camcorder SD card (reader built into PC), or from mp4 files which I also created from this installation of VS. When I share the files, I get no errors. I've had it happpen with 3 minute files, and with 11 second files.
One example file that does this is:
file size 3,405 KB
Duration 11.064 seconds
Data rate 2481 kdps
Video: Windows Media Video 9
24 bits, 1280x720, 29.970 frames/sec
Audio: Windows Media Audio 9.2
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Aspect ratio 1.78:1.0
Is editable: yes
Project settings are:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
MJPEG Compressor
PCM, 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
I've also tried changing the Project settings to this, but the WMV file still comes out as 44.1 and the same issue occurs:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
MJPEG Compressor
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Not sure if this is related or not, but when I installed the latest version of VS Pro X5, I started having trouble with windows media player. At the moment, WMP won't play DVD's or WMV files because it says it doesn't have the codec. I'm running WPM 11 on Win XP and it is the most current version.

I have Canon 60d original footage shot at 1080p 25. The clip is only 9-1/2 sec long. When I play the clip straight out of my pc folder inside VLC the clip is smooth. The moment I import the clip into VS proX5 timeline and straight away, share / create video file / AVCHD / 1920x1080p preset, VS introduces 4 dreaded stutter problems into the render finished product which is very noticeable and ugly to watch.. I am in PAL land and VS was installed to PAL. I have also tried the WMV hd1080p preset and mpeg-4 and the results where just as disappointing.

I'm able to view each clip individually without any playback problem upon capture. However, once I drop a clip into the timeline, the clip experiences a very slight but noticeable bit of stuttering/jumping/hiccuping every so many seconds during playback on the timeline. I was hoping that this might have just been occurring in preview mode, but after creating a video file, the problem still exists. This footage was captured using a Flip camera.
The manufacturer of the flip camera is suggesting that since the footage can play fine with the camera program (Arcsoft Media Impression) the problem seems to be related to the player codec on my computer. They suggested that I download the latest K-Lite Codec Pack to see if that would resolve the problem.

This is a new fault which has appeared with Corel Pro x3. When I play clips on the overlay tracks as a project they play faultlessly. When I play them as a clip on any overlay track, there is no sound and it stutters instead of one constant speed. I have installed the program twice now trying to fix this problem. I am editing in Standard Definition. What could be causing this problem? This occurs with all files on the overlay tracks played in clip mode.
My computer is a Pentium (R) D CPU 3.00GHz, 3.25GB of RAM, Windows XP Pro, Intel Motherboard, ATI Radeon HD 5450, 512MB DDR3, IDT Audio. Sony HVR-V1P Pan NVGS400

I have a new notebook with intel I7 processor, 8 GB memory and 500 GB 7.200 drive. I captured successful the video from my Sony camera, cutted the video, produced a DVD and enjoyed afterwards the video. To back-up the video on a tape normally I generate a video file in my Video Studio x3 (latest version) and transfer it back to the tape on my video camera. This isn't working in the right way due to stuttering after 10-15 minutes transfering back. After restarting the transition the time until stuttering starts is then less then 10 minutes, next time less then 5 minutes.

I've posted a 1 minute sample on Youtube at [URL] ...... You'll notice while viewing an opening pan of the Welcome sign and footage of the columns the issue I'm inquiring about. I find it very strange that this especially noticeable when a scene is being panned.

In creating a video output I am looking for WMV Frame Width 720 Frame Height 480. I have created outputs with WMV HD 720 30p that is 1280 by 720... My issue when I stream that wireless over to my game systems or even my laptop. I am getting lagg. I get no lag on video outputs with WMV 720 by 480. Those video I created with Microsoft MM. I just got VideoStudio and its great! , but my issue I would like to output to WMV 720 by 480 and I do not see that option.
I have been on game forums and wireless forums, and since the WMV 720 by 480 and still working. I am trying to use VS3 to output to that for testing.
My setup is that my game systems and laptop are connected to TV in the house so I stream our events to them for people to see.
WMV HD 720 30p that is 1280 by 720 - is causing the lagg...
WMV 720 by 480 - no lagg...

I use the VideoStudio Pro X4 to edit my videos.
This time I have some problems with the quality of my finished projects. I have tried to burn my project as both DVD and AVCHD. On DVD the quality was really poor with grainy picture.
The AVCHD disc was much better but there was lots of "strobe" in the movie. Especially where I have added transitions and text fields.
My raw video-files is HD video (MTS-files). I also use the proxy tools to make the editing go smoother. I think my computer should handle this without the Roxy, but it doesn't.
I use this settings for my project: Settings --> Project Properties:
Edit File Format: MPEG
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Create Disc --> AVCHD:
MPEG files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 16000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
Create Disc --> DVD:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps

I am working on a simple video with two (3 second) overlay video clips. In the preview window everything looks great. After compressing the overlay clips shrink in height revieling the top & bottom of the main clip. If I over-stretch the overlay clips they still shrink down. I have gotten it to work once (don't know why) but that rendering the audio dropped off when the overlay started and never came back. That's a separate issue.
I saw where one person trying to solve a different issue mentioned to streach the overlay clip by the corners only? Is that important? I also tried turning on and off the "stretch to fit" option. I am not seeing a patern? I have also tried keeping the aspect ration on and off but that does not seem to give consistant results. I am sure it is a combination of some type.
Main clip:
Data rate: 9421 kbps
Video: Windows Media Video 9
24 bit, 1920x1080, 29.970 frames/sec
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1.00
Overlay clips:
Data rate: 1309 kbps
Video: Windows Media Video 9
24 bit, 1280x720, 25 frames/sec
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1.00

Is there a way that you can convert a 4.3 import to a 16.9 output? I have imported a musical from a disc which is recorded in 4.3. I would like to output this as a widescreen video. I have tried putting in on the overlay track which gives a better output result but still has the borders each side.

I recently upgraded from VS Pro X4 to VS Pro X5 and was shocked to see that there is no option to output a project to FLV under '3 Share > Create Video File'. Is this a feature removal or am I cursed with a defective copy of VS Pro X5?
As you can see in the screen above, the option (which was located at the bottom of the menu in VS Pro X4) is absent in VS Pro X5.

I am using Corel Video Studio Pro X4, I have asked the below questions previously, so far there has not been a solution. It appears Corel do not have any way to contact them when there is a problem
I chose this programme over Cyberlink Power Director as it had the 5.1 mixer and 3D capabilities. I now find Power Director Ultra 10 now has the 3D Capability, the 3D works very well, but no 5.1 mixer only a pesudo type 5.1 sound, the programme itself looks to be excellent quality.
Should there be no solution to my above problems, then the only choice I have is to use Power Director, a pity.
My previously posts are below -

Nowadays, MP4 is widely used video format in our daily life and slowly it became the best popular video format. For some DIY lovers, It believes that you always edit your movies using a video editor like Sony Platinum Suite, Magi Movie Edit Pro Plus and Corel Video Studio Pro, etc. to make a your own style video.
Really happened, I am also a DIY lover and I always to edit my video with Corel Video Studio Pro X6 for playback on my portable device or burn movie to DVD. For example, I am an office worker and I always take much time on my way to work. So I rip the DVD to MP4 on Mac and then edit it with Video Studio Pro X6 for a better enjoyment.
Now let’s cut to the chase! It is really a big and exacting Serendipity. Yesterday I rip and convert my DVDs to my Mac computer and then edit it with my Corel Video Studio Pro X6. To my surprise, Seven minutes HD mp4 video, it just takes 9 minutes to output it. Then suddenly I got an idea, have a test with the entire popular video editor and Make a comparison.
After the test,I found that The same material, the same color and then same configuration,Corel Video Studio Pro X6 is obviously faster than Magi Movie Edit Pro Plus, Premiere CC、EDIUS7.0 and Vegas12, etc. Then I Immediately the video to my MOTOROLA ME865 SD CARDS and then play it with my smartphone, it is very smooth; then I copy the video to my U disk, and inserted it into my hisense flat-panel TV, it works well, too.
Seven minutes of hd MP4, the volume is 592 MB, and then a minute within 100 m on average, that is, an ordinary DVD, hd can hold 45 minutes MP4, convenient to keep the family film. The Conclusion is that ulead video studio has a bright spot, the new version of their X6 version described output hd MP4 has unique advantage! That’s all!

I can't seem to convince X4 to output a 640x480 (or 720x480) mainline MP4 that is 16:9 - they always come out as 4;3 letterboxed . Is there some way to install another MP4 Codec that will do it or will installing DivX or Xvid at least allow me to generate 16:9 .avi files at those resolutions?

I am looking for producing Blu-Ray compliant output from VideoStudio. I have VS PRO X4 with SP2. The input is AVCHD from a Canon HF200 and the target is Adobe Encore.
The reason for Encore is that I need a good navigation solution. VS’s menu and navigation is somewhat primitive. But Encore is notoriously zealous about compliance. An had given up on getting Encore to recognize anything from VS as compliant but took another look and now I’m even more confused.
As a baseline, if you take the raw clips from the camera and put them into Encore it accepts that they are Blu-Ray (H.264/AC3) compliant and will not attempt to transcode them. This is what I want since the output will be essentially the same as the input so no loss and the time to output is quite fast. The exception to this is when something like a transition occurs then it must be rendered. What I was not expecting is that VS does not appear to render the whole clip. It renders the bit that has the transition or effect or title etc. up to the next GOP then appears to revert back to not transcoding again. I can’t be 100% sure of that but carefully watching the CPU and disk activity and showing the render progress it is quite obvious that when it gets to raw footage again it starts behaving like a file copy rather than a render. This suggests that SmartRender actually does try and do the right things.
I did try to put a clip at the front of the project then tell VS to render as per first clip. This did not work, the output was compliant but it decided to render everything. I would expect this to be the ideal case for NOT rendering but something went wrong. If you put an item that does need rendering followed by the raw clips it renders than flips into just copy. There seems to be a logic fault here somewhere. Then I found that if disabled SmartRender the output for was compliant but it rendered all the clips.
If I output the project as Blu-Ray (MPEG-2) it come out as fully compliant and Encore won’t touch it. Of course it is twice as big as the original and some degree of rendering must have taken place, although it takes only a fraction of the time for other renders. I am not sure why this is the case either. If I use the other options (like 1440x1080i) it is also compliant (although the scenes are totally distorted as you expect).
I also tried a custom preset setting the video to 1920x1080i with a max bit rate of 20000 H.264 and the AC3 to 384kbps. I know there are quite a few more factors in Blu-Ray compliant video but this is all I can set.
It seems no matter what I do I get compliant Blu-Ray output EXCEPT for the one I really want with SmartRender doing it’s thing.
All I can conclude from this is that VS can produce compliant Blu-Ray and SmartRender short circuits the render but for some reason already fully compliant video gets turned into non-compliant video.

I have been trying Video Studio a few times in the past. The first version I ever tried must have been Ulead Video Studio 7 or 8. I always liked the process oriented GUI and the goodies that are made so easy compared to other video editing software. I remember version 8 and next to be very unstable though, which is why I kept working with other software like Pinnacle. Each time there was a new version though I tried it and I have seen stability improving with every version. I would like to work with Video Studio a lot, however I have serious problems with output quality.
Since a few years I am filming HD video, AVCHD standard (1080i50) with a Panasonic HDC-SD5 and recently HDC-SD900. The last one, a new camera, offers incredible detail and quality. Of course I want to see the same quality in my end product, the output of the video editing software. Here is where I have a big problem.
1. When I save output as AVCHD an use smart rendering there are problems with the transition between two clips. There are blocks all over the place. I have tested this with X2, X3 and X4. I remember in X2 there seemed to be some frames in the wrong order at the end of each clip. In X3 there were blocks. In X4, which I am testing now, sometimes output is good, sometimes there are blocks worse than I ever saw in X3.
2. When I save as AVCHD, Bluray, H.264, ... no matter what format in 1080i without smart rendering there is a big quality loss. It is really visible, especially on the pc screen. I have tried many settings: bluray 2-pass encoding at 30.000bps, AVCHD and H.264 at 18.000bps. It seems to be impossible to get good quality out.
No matter what I did, I cannot even approach the input quality with Video Studio. And let's face it, it all comes down to the output!
I have tried encoding with some other free tools such as Handbrake and Staxrip. Of course these are not video editors, but at least I could compare the output quality.

I'm splicing together a couple of avi files and outputting as a 720p .wmv. The final file is about 15 minutes long. At each of the straight cuts (I'm not using transitions) in the output file, two or three seconds are cut off! I've tried outputting in different formats and it still occurs, but if I shorten the entire file to a minute or so, it doesn't happen. I've tried it with proxy on and off. I've edited in the very same configuration very often previously and haven't had this problem before.

I'd like to post some videos on Vimeo .
They footage was shot in DV CAM on a Sony A1 and the footage and the project is:
PAL (25 fps), Microsoft AVI files, 24 bits, 720 x 576, 16:9, 25 fps, Lower Field First, DV Video Encoder -- type 1 DV Audio -- PAL, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Vimeo recommends the following settings:
Codec: H.264 (MP4)
Frame rate: same as shot ie 25 fps
Data rate: 2000 kbps (SD)
Choose 640×480 for 4:3 SD video, 640×360 for 16:9 SD video
If you have the option to control the pixel aspect ratio (not the display aspect ratio), make sure it's set to "1:1" or "1.00," sometimes referred to as "square pixels."
Deinterlacing: Maybe - if you are shooting on an older camera, enable the deinterlacing option. Otherwise, you may get weird-looking horizontal lines in your video. With newer camera models, deinterlacing shouldn't be an issue, so you can leave this option unchecked.
Audio
Codec: AAC (Advanced Audio Codec)
Data rate: 320 kbps
Sample rate: 44.1 kHz
When tying to create the file though the frame size for mp4 though does not seem to give an option for 640x360 on the drop down menu. 640 x 480 seems to make it look stretched? Should I choose 720 x 576 as it originally was?
Also, what should I do with the box 'perform non square pixel rendering?' and how does that relate to the pixel aspect ratio info? And what about the bit about deinterlacing - not sure what that means.

I have captured 16:9 DV CAM footage from a Sony A1 camera using ULead Video Studio 11, using a firewire, as AVI DV files and edited it in a project in the same format:
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 16:9, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
I want to render it into the same to create an AVI master file.
I don't know about Audio data or Video data rates and how to set them for capture or rendering - I'm pretty new to editing.
ULead for creating the best quality output file at this stage, or do I just do a Same as Project Properties render? Are there any drawbacks / issues to those tips?
I'm using my HP Probook 4710s with 32 bit Windows, Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 / 2GHz (Dual Core) processor, 3GB Ram DDR2 SDRAM 800 MHz, 2MB-L2 cache memory, 512 MB video memory.

Using a Canon Powershot G12 camera and it records 1280x720 px .mov, H.264, 23.976 fps.
Doesn't matter how my project properties are in Videostudio Pro X3. Think I tried almost everything. My clips are AVCHD (HDV captures from a Sony HDR-FX7 via Firewire using HDVSplit). I'm outputting them to "HDV 720p - 30p (for PC)". Total edited projects are 9-10 minutes each and I'm seeing 2-3 of these "red frames" per output file.

I've been playing with a free trial of X5 and I'm tempted to buy the full version but I am struggling to get good quality output.
I have a number of clips at 1080p (30fps) and 720p (60fps). These look excellent when played raw from the videocamera files (MP4s), but no matter what output I select from Videostudio they look as if there is a stutter as if played at a lower fps. This effectively renders Videostudio a non-starter as my videos will look worse edited than unedited. Am I missing something, or is this a limitation of the software.
I have a hex core AMD 1050T with 16GB of memory and a GTX560Ti so there should not be a performance problem.
