VideoStudio :: Use Hardware Encoder Acceleration Greyed Out

Jul 30, 2010

I've had this problem for a few weeks now. Customer Service has been unable to provide a fix (ie complete uninstall, re-installing from scratch, new drivers, etc). I have a fairly new I7 with lots of memory and disk space and an ATI HD4670 video card that is capable of hardware encoding acceleration....I run Vista 64 bit. I also have another software package on the computer that uses this feature okay.

Corel advertises hardware encoding as a big featuire of this release of Videostudio (X3 Pro).

VideoStudio :: X5 - Enable Hardware Encoder Greyed Out?

May 22, 2012

I downloaded the trial for Video Studio X5 and have managed to make a few videos already with it (mostly desktop screen recordings in 1080p). However, after realizing how slow my renderings were, I toyed around with the settings and noticed that the Enable Hardware Encoder option is greyed out. Meaning that I cannot enable it. I can, however, enable other Hardware acceleration features.

I'm not totally sure what the issue might be since I'm pretty sure my GPU supports this feature ... or does it? Or could it be a limitation of the trial version ... ?

Currently, I'm running:
+ Windows 7 64-bit
+ EVGA Nvidia GTX 670 2GB
+ Intel i7-3770 Ivy Bridge
+ 16 GB DDR3 1600
Other hardware information can be found in my profile.

Also, system information as sourced from the Nvidia control panel:

VideoStudio :: CUDA Acceleration Option Greyed Out

Nov 28, 2012

I have VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate (full paid for version) but I am unable to select the 'Enable Hardware Encoder Acceleration' option under Preferences/Performance as the option is greyed out.

I have an nVidia GTX660 Ti 3GB made by EVGA. This has a CUDA based CPU and according to Corel's advertising, VS Pro X5 is designed for this chipset, and so I cannot understand why the option to enable it is not available.

Some comments from Corel support I found that this option isn't required for CUDA cards as they are enabled and used by default. However, I have just done a test render of a 1920x1080 AVI clip to MP4 using H.264 and monitored both my CPU (dual Xeon E5420) and GPU utilisation. The CPUs hit 90% whilst the GPUs sat there doing nothing at all other than basic screen rendering rather than any encoding. Corel's comments are incorrect.

Also, I have a support case open with Corel but TBH, I don't hold out much hope as their last response was "If the hardware acceleration options are greyed out, then your graphics card software is managing the hardware acceleration. Please check with Nvidia whether there is an option to disable this. If there is, then once it is disabled, the hardware accelerations option will become active again.". Now, I don't pretend to be an expert in these matters, but I was under the impression that the hardware was enabled and managed by the drivers, and those drivers also offered out the functions of the card to other software that required it (API?), such as VS Pro when it needs access to the hardware acceleration to encode video. Graphics rendering on games works fine without me having to disable any graphics card software so why doesn't VS Pro?

For info, my hardware / OS is as follows:

Dual Xeon E5420 CPUs at 2.5Ghz (8 cores in total)
16GB RAM
EVGA nVidia GTX 660 Ti 3GB (with 310.61 beta drivers but still same issue with 306.97 release drivers)
240 GB Kingston SSD
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate with SP1

How to get hardware acceleration enabled using a GTX 600 series card? Or any other card that initially had the option greyed out?

I know that some people say that CPU rendering gives better quality, but I have a few hundred hours of old VHS and Video 8 tapes to transfer to digital and burn to DVD so as the quality isn't great to start with, I'm not too concerned about a few artifacts if I can significantly reduce the rendering time.

If I can't resolve this issue then I am going to claim a refund under Corel's 30 day money back guarantee as the product doesn't perform as advertised. However, I'd prefer to get it working as I quite like it.

VideoStudio :: Encoder Profiles - Unable To Save Changes

Dec 27, 2010

X3 on Windows 7 (can replicate this on both Home Premium and Pro). I migrated from XP and am very very happy with the way X3 runs on Windows 7 but I am having a big problem. I had a library of customized Windows Media Encoder settings (different bit rates, frame sizes, etc.) for output as .WMV files. When I try to copy or customize any of the existing encoder profiles (which all work just fine) the system does not allow me to save. I have set full permissions for the logged user and made sure the directory is not read only.

VideoStudio :: X2 - Failed To Open MPEG Encoder

Dec 13, 2010

I've been using VideoStudio Pro X2 for the past 2 years and it has been working just fine since, up until mid last week. I was rolling right along, creating MPEG-2's of the Classic 39 Honeymooners episodes, until I got up to Episode 24, when I started getting the 'Failed to open the MPEG encoder' error message. I searched through this forum to find any possible solution and the only solutions I found were to check to see if the MPEG-2 encoder CODEC is installed, which it appears to be according to the InstalledCodec utility and to uninstall/reinstall VS, which I did. I still receive the same error message, however. What could cause it to go from working one moment, to not working the next?

I tried to attach a text file listing all of the installed codecs on my system, so you can look to see if the needed codecs are installed, however I was unable to attach the file...says 'extension not allowed'. How to upload the file.

VideoStudio :: Service Pack And Hardware Encoder

Feb 6, 2011

I need a consensus from the forum members here regarding this Service Pack 2 update (which is named Patch3.exe). I've read that it causes problems and I've read where it doesn't. As of right now, without the patch, my version is 13.6.2.36 , I think with the patch it will be .69, or is there another patch (or version) floating around out there that is more stable?

Also, under Settings>Performance the "Use Hardeware Encoder acceleration" is grayed out. How to check that thing off and what hardware are you using to get it to show up?

VideoStudio :: Error Message - Failed To Open MPEG Encoder

Jun 29, 2011

I completed a video and when I went to 'Create a Video File' I would receive the following error message...

"Failed to open MPEG encoder"

I'm using Ulead VideoStudio 11+. The 'vsp' file is too long...One hour fourteen minutes. I made a 'Part 1' and cut the vsp to forty-five minutes and still received the same error message.

I cut the 'vsp' to one minute thirty seconds and it would "Create a Video File'. I've never had this problem before.

It seems with Ulead VideoStudio 11+ whenever I have a problem like this I can resolve it, by backing up all the files, then removing the program, thoroughly clean the hard drive and re-install 11+.

VideoStudio :: How To Enable Hardware Encoding Acceleration

Jan 10, 2013

I discovered reading the "fine print" for another product that if you have an ATI or AMD graphics card, you may need to download and install the AVIVO codec package from AMD's website in order to enable hardware acceleration for encoding. The package is not included with AMD Catalyst 12.10.

After going to the following web site, you need to fill out a survey before you can download the package.

After installing the package, the "Enable Hardware Encoding Acceleration" option on the Performance tab in Preferences in VS X5 became enabled on my system.

I'm using Ulead VideoStudio 11+ and when I try to render a completed video to a file I receive this error message. The video is a little large, one hour fourteen minutes, so I cut it in half, saving it under a different name and it still gave me the same error message. However, if I render a very small clip then it renders as it's suppose to.

I've never had this trouble before. I reloaded the software for 11+ but that didn't work.

This is VideoStudio6 upgraded to VideoStudio 9, so the software is not new.

VideoStudio :: Split By Scene Greyed Out

Dec 31, 2010

I have used my Video Studio Pro X3 to creat a few videos. When I now try to creat a video the split by scene buttion is greyed out. I dont think I have done anything with the settings on my Camera a Sony HDR CX7EK. I record in standard definition and the file created has an extension .mpg with 720x576, 25 frames per second. The only difference this time around is that I took the memory card from the camera and transfered it to the computer with a reader instead of using the sony transfer and charging docking station. Strange is that I can also not split by second when using old projects where I could split scnenes some 6 months ago.

I also did read in a few other posts the button is greyed out if you record in analog cameras, which is understandable, but to my dissmay it seems like splitting by scene does not work on HD recorded files, is that true as i have used the HD function in the camera and created AVCHD files with file extension .MTS and plan to creat a few movies later on?

I can choose to “burn the disc” or “create a disc image” both options allow for adding a personal folder.

As a test I chose to create both a “folder” and a “disc image” this activated the link to allow me to add a folder, obviously this took a little longer and doubled the file sizes.

The Personal folder saved to ISO but not to DVD Folder.

I must admit I normally use the Disc Image option so haven’t noticed this problem in the past.

Photoshop :: Cannot Install Bridge And Media Encoder In CS6?

Oct 11, 2012

I recently installed Creative Suite CS6 Design & Web Premium. I had previously installed the CS5 version and had not un-installed it. Everything except Acrobat appeared to install correctly. When I opened Photoshop CS6 (64-bit) I noticed that it used the CS5 version Bridge.

I went into Bridge and unchecked the open at start box, closed Bridge and Photoshop and re-opened Photoshop CS6 (64-bit). When I tried to lunch Bridge from Photoshop the following message appeared in the Desktop> panel : Waiting for Bridge CS6..." Bridge CS6 did not appear despite waiting for several minutes.

I then pressed the Start button and went into the Programs listing. Under the Adobe CS6 group I found all of the applications (other than Acrobat) but Bridge CS6 (64-bit), Bridge CS6, and Media Encoder each had generic icons rather than the expected relevant Adobe icons. I tried to load each of the three by clicking on the icon. In each instance the following message appeared:

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher.

My system is a Gateway FX6802. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1, Build 7601.The system has 9 GB of memory. I ran CS5 on the system and did not experience any difficulty with Bridge.

Premiere Pro :: CC - Media Encoder Audio Bad Renders

Jan 22, 2014

when I export a timeline to Media Encoder queue, the video renders out with no audio.I have not found a repeatable way to replicate this, but when it happens, it really blows up my workflow.

Typically I: Import a ProRes 1080 clip into a fresh timeline, and only trim down the ends. Audio and Video playback great in premiere. I then, without changing anything, export to media encoder queue in h.264 1080p OR 720p (vimeo preset).

The queue runs and bang, video file with no audio.

My extended workflow is as such - once the h.264 file has arrived in the folder (it is a watchfolder), there are presets set to create OTHER Files - wav for CD, mp3 for podcast, DVD for distro, mp4 for podcast. So, as you can see, it snowballs into a trainwreck. I would also automate/schedule the podcast postings, but obviously I can't rely on media encoder/premiere to do it's job.

I even got to point to where I reboot the machine right before each original capture begins, but the error is always in the first render out of premiere.I dropped the capture into a timeline, exported as usual, and got a bad render. Did it again, this time moving the audio down a track. Still a bad render. Rebooted the Mac, tried it all again, and finally got a working render. This is the first time it has happened TWICE in a row, and I'm getting tired of it, as these renders are fairly long.

I was led to believe that GPU acceleration features (like smooth zoom and rotate) were supported in the PS CS4 Standard edition. Under GPU Settings, Performance Preferences, it states "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard". Maybe this will help others not make the same disappointing assumption I have. I think Adobe should make this clear in the future. It really does make me feel slighted.

How do I enable this line? Is it through starting Gimp via a batch file? I'm using the Windows 64 bit binaries so perhaps this was a switch that needed to be set during compiling Gimp. I'm not quite adept at compiling programs though...

Premiere Pro :: Get Better Compression When Using GPU Acceleration?

Jan 21, 2014

I was just making a short, 1:12-long video encoded as H.264 in an MP4 wrapper. I had edited the video in Premiere Pro CC, and was exporting through Adobe Media Encoder at a framerate of 29.97 FPS and a resolution of 1920x1080. I wanted to do a test to see how much GPU acceleration benefits me. So, I ran two different tests, one with and one without. The one with GPU acceleration finished in 2:09. The one without it took 2:40, definately enough to justify using GPU acceleration (my GPU is an NVidia GTX 660 Ti which I have overclocked). I am sure my benefits would be even greater in most videos I make, since this one had relatively few effects. However, I checked the file sizes out of curiosity, and found that the one made with GPU acceleration was 175 MB in size, and the other was 176 MB. While the difference is pretty small, I am wondering why it exists at all. I checked the bitrates, and the one made with GPU acceleration is 19,824 KB/s, whereas the other is 19,966 KB/s. I used the exact same presets for both. I even re-encoded the videos again just to test it and verify the results, and the second test confirms what the first showed. So, what I am wondering is: What is it that made this possible, and could this be used to my advantage in future productions?

In case it is in any way relevant, these are my computer's specifications:

-Hardware-
Case- MSI Interceptor Series Barricade
Mainboard- MSI Z77A-G45
Power Supply Unit- Corsair HX-750
