VideoStudio :: How To Enable Hardware Encoding Acceleration
Jan 10, 2013
I discovered reading the "fine print" for another product that if you have an ATI or AMD graphics card, you may need to download and install the AVIVO codec package from AMD's website in order to enable hardware acceleration for encoding. The package is not included with AMD Catalyst 12.10.
After going to the following web site, you need to fill out a survey before you can download the package.
[URL]........
After installing the package, the "Enable Hardware Encoding Acceleration" option on the Performance tab in Preferences in VS X5 became enabled on my system.

I'm trying to enable hardware acceleration in videostudio x4 for encoding, but the button is just greyed out. The decoding button is enabled. I have a core i7 2600k processor and a ati hd 6950 graphics card. The online support lists DXVA as supported. So is there any way to enable this?

I'm a long time user of Gimp. I use it for work and my work involves editing images on the scale of 22000 x 22000 px. With the Gimp 2.8 RC1 the release notes state the GPU acceleration can be enabled with the command line "GEGL_USE_OPENCL=yes"
How do I enable this line? Is it through starting Gimp via a batch file? I'm using the Windows 64 bit binaries so perhaps this was a switch that needed to be set during compiling Gimp. I'm not quite adept at compiling programs though...
How to enable GPU acceleration (or if it's already enabled). Otherwise... other performance improving tips. 16GB of DDR3-1600 works with a cache size of 10GB but my 1090T @ 4ghz can't push pixels fast enough.

I want to encode a video in MPEG2-HD with 1920x1080 and 24 fps (full pictures) @ 35000kbps VBR. Before i bought VS X4 i was using VS 8. There it was kind of easy to create that but in VS X4 this option is missing. I only have the choice between the PAL-DVD and NTSC-DVD Codecs. In VS 8 there was additionally MPEG and MPEG2.
Where have them gone? Or is there any other way to solve this problem? Do i have to install any additional codecs, which i had installed on my old computer where VS8 was running?

I have been using Pro 4X for just over a year now but have recently been experiencing crashes while encoding HD MPEG files. I have also just activated/unpacked the included music with the software and these issues just started after I did this. Note: I do not use the provided music but believe the conflict is because of this.

Black is not all black when encoded to mpeg2, making DVD's. Same as it was way back in 2005 and forward. At least on my TV set. Panasonic PAL. I these days have a new 42" flatscreen Panasonic compared to my old 4:3 "fat TV set" Sony Trinitron. The same experience... I want the same look, contrast and colors, as with the DV tape straight to the TV set, even if there, offcource, could be some artifacts from the encoding itself.
Here is my almost 6 years old thread on that problem.
There was a thread once, I can't find now. Seems to be erased. I have it on paper though. The subject was MPEG encoder settings in VS11+ The starter of it was Jack_HDV and replys came from vidoman, Ken Berry and etech6355. The tip in there was to add the Advance=1 in the uvs.ini file under the subject [viodriver]. I have tried this on the new Corel VS X4 but to no sucess. The mapstructure is also a bit different in W7, users vs. document and settings. The meaning with this added line was to get another button "advanced" under the tab "compression" and be able to change "primary colors" via a dropdown list.
how to do it in Corel VS? Is it maybe something that shouldn't be doable in VS, because of licence payment to the company Mainconcept who has done the encoder. VS should maybe only have the "light" version"? Just before this new thread I managed to encode with an older version of Canopus Procoder v.2, with perfect result as it comes to black and white and also a bit stronger colors. It's so much easier if we could get the same result withing VS.

Each time I am trying to do something with Corel VideoStudio X6, I have a new issue. This time, when I try to play the preview of my full video, image blocks all the times, I have to hit the space bar two times to pause and resume playback, then it takes more than 30 seconds before playback resumes. I tried to encode the video, it worked, but after around 15 minutes, audio and video get out of sync.
I tried to contact Corel technical support and they could not do anything for me. They suggested me to install the Service Pack 1: installer pretends VideoStudio is not installed because I have an almost-full SSD and put VideoStudio in my data drive. Adding a second SSD would not solve the problem, because this would just create a new drive, and replacing the current SSD with a bigger one forces me, AGAIN, to reinstall everything! Then they suggested me to again reinstall Corel VideoStudio, but this takes hours and hours, because it tries to redownload everything and this is always waiting and blocking (and I DON'T know what to check if I have, AGAIN, to check my Internet connection).

I'm having the X4 crashing issue when creating .mp4 files for my iPhone. I read that one of the potential resolutions was to turn on (or off) the hardware acceleration options. All those boxes on my performance tab are currently unchecked, but they are also grayed out so I couldn't check them to see if that worked for the crashing issue even if i wanted to.

I've had this problem for a few weeks now. Customer Service has been unable to provide a fix (ie complete uninstall, re-installing from scratch, new drivers, etc). I have a fairly new I7 with lots of memory and disk space and an ATI HD4670 video card that is capable of hardware encoding acceleration....I run Vista 64 bit. I also have another software package on the computer that uses this feature okay.
Corel advertises hardware encoding as a big featuire of this release of Videostudio (X3 Pro).

I have VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate (full paid for version) but I am unable to select the 'Enable Hardware Encoder Acceleration' option under Preferences/Performance as the option is greyed out.
I have an nVidia GTX660 Ti 3GB made by EVGA. This has a CUDA based CPU and according to Corel's advertising, VS Pro X5 is designed for this chipset, and so I cannot understand why the option to enable it is not available.
Some comments from Corel support I found that this option isn't required for CUDA cards as they are enabled and used by default. However, I have just done a test render of a 1920x1080 AVI clip to MP4 using H.264 and monitored both my CPU (dual Xeon E5420) and GPU utilisation. The CPUs hit 90% whilst the GPUs sat there doing nothing at all other than basic screen rendering rather than any encoding. Corel's comments are incorrect.
Also, I have a support case open with Corel but TBH, I don't hold out much hope as their last response was "If the hardware acceleration options are greyed out, then your graphics card software is managing the hardware acceleration. Please check with Nvidia whether there is an option to disable this. If there is, then once it is disabled, the hardware accelerations option will become active again.". Now, I don't pretend to be an expert in these matters, but I was under the impression that the hardware was enabled and managed by the drivers, and those drivers also offered out the functions of the card to other software that required it (API?), such as VS Pro when it needs access to the hardware acceleration to encode video. Graphics rendering on games works fine without me having to disable any graphics card software so why doesn't VS Pro?
For info, my hardware / OS is as follows:
Dual Xeon E5420 CPUs at 2.5Ghz (8 cores in total)
16GB RAM
EVGA nVidia GTX 660 Ti 3GB (with 310.61 beta drivers but still same issue with 306.97 release drivers)
240 GB Kingston SSD
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate with SP1
How to get hardware acceleration enabled using a GTX 600 series card? Or any other card that initially had the option greyed out?
I know that some people say that CPU rendering gives better quality, but I have a few hundred hours of old VHS and Video 8 tapes to transfer to digital and burn to DVD so as the quality isn't great to start with, I'm not too concerned about a few artifacts if I can significantly reduce the rendering time.
If I can't resolve this issue then I am going to claim a refund under Corel's 30 day money back guarantee as the product doesn't perform as advertised. However, I'd prefer to get it working as I quite like it.

can't seem to get ffdshow to work with VS. Reading many pages of posts that refer to ffdshow, virtually none of them suggest there is anything to do beyond just installing ffdshow, so this would not seem to be a common issue. I found one old thread from 2008 where someone asked if VS asked if it should use ffdshow on startup, but I have never seen that prompt.
I have a brand new copy of VS Pro X4, I downloaded and installed ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter, but I have not made any configuration changes.

I downloaded the trial for Video Studio X5 and have managed to make a few videos already with it (mostly desktop screen recordings in 1080p). However, after realizing how slow my renderings were, I toyed around with the settings and noticed that the Enable Hardware Encoder option is greyed out. Meaning that I cannot enable it. I can, however, enable other Hardware acceleration features.
I'm not totally sure what the issue might be since I'm pretty sure my GPU supports this feature ... or does it? Or could it be a limitation of the trial version ... ?
Currently, I'm running:
+ Windows 7 64-bit
+ EVGA Nvidia GTX 670 2GB
+ Intel i7-3770 Ivy Bridge
+ 16 GB DDR3 1600

I can not get PS to display french special characters correct. all 'accented' As and Es etc. display as weird text strings, just like your browser running on the wrong text encoder.
How do I get PS to interpret the data sets right?

having problems when generating managed media through the Mediahub from H264 into Apple ProRess 4:2:2 (HQ).
I tried different options but that happens that it never finishes rendering the files, and the Jobs tab shows the system updates the files randomly with a "busy" status while all of the others show "waiting". However nothing happens.
I entered the managed folder from the Store and have nothing but a couple of 1 frame clips.

Weird audio noise after encoding for Mpeg for Blu-ray.
It's random and does not happen all the time. Started to do it after I update the latest Premiere CC.
Seems to happen when i apply a transistion to a audio clip from no audio. Sound like a mic to close to a speaker repeating the sound faster and faster. I cant hear it durning the editing, just after exporting.

I have not had any problems until I started trying to use a green screen, which has turned out to be a major pain. Ultra key did a good job, but I kept being told the after affects does a better job. My computer is a PC has 32 Gigs of ram a 4 gig video card, I7. I also just downloaded all the latest updates. I imported an AVCHD file after shooting a 30 min lesson on green screen. Had to do a lot of editing to get all put together so there were lots of cuts and I had alot nested sections so I can resize myself with the background to keep the perspective correct. After I had decent success with keying, though I wish it were better, I tried moving each indivdual video clip over to after effects to key in there. It looked like it might have been a little bit better than the using ultrakey.
Anyways, after taking forever to get all these clip edited in after affects, I wanted to export my completed video so I could see how well it worked. I never got the the chance because no matter what I choose under MPG2 it would lock up around 8%. Even when I tried to get to encode a 2min section of the video, it still locks up. The only way to get out of the program is to force it closed. As I searched for answer to this problem, someone suggested holding he shift key down while you open CS6, but that did not work. BTW the same file exports fine as long as I do not send any of the footage to after effect
it would be nice to be able to try and use after affects as well so I can at least see if the final result of the keying is better or not.

Ive noticed that initially photoshop will not allow me to use acceleration, I am using a Quadro based Laptop and would really like to benefit from its GPU. I know in Premiere Pro you can edit a File called "Supported GPUs" witch will allow you to use the Murcery Playback engine fine. Is there a way to do something similar in Photoshop?

Dell Latitude E6410
Corei5 520M

I was led to believe that GPU acceleration features (like smooth zoom and rotate) were supported in the PS CS4 Standard edition. Under GPU Settings, Performance Preferences, it states "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard". To me this is misleading advertising - I would have considered the Extended version if I had known.
Maybe this will help others not make the same disappointing assumption I have. I think Adobe should make this clear in the future. It really does make me feel slighted.

I was just making a short, 1:12-long video encoded as H.264 in an MP4 wrapper. I had edited the video in Premiere Pro CC, and was exporting through Adobe Media Encoder at a framerate of 29.97 FPS and a resolution of 1920x1080. I wanted to do a test to see how much GPU acceleration benefits me. So, I ran two different tests, one with and one without. The one with GPU acceleration finished in 2:09. The one without it took 2:40, definately enough to justify using GPU acceleration (my GPU is an NVidia GTX 660 Ti which I have overclocked). I am sure my benefits would be even greater in most videos I make, since this one had relatively few effects. However, I checked the file sizes out of curiosity, and found that the one made with GPU acceleration was 175 MB in size, and the other was 176 MB. While the difference is pretty small, I am wondering why it exists at all. I checked the bitrates, and the one made with GPU acceleration is 19,824 KB/s, whereas the other is 19,966 KB/s. I used the exact same presets for both. I even re-encoded the videos again just to test it and verify the results, and the second test confirms what the first showed. So, what I am wondering is: What is it that made this possible, and could this be used to my advantage in future productions?
In case it is in any way relevant, these are my computer's specifications:
-Hardware-
Case- MSI Interceptor Series Barricade
Mainboard- MSI Z77A-G45
Power Supply Unit- Corsair HX-750
