Photoshop :: Advantages Of Storing Images In TIFF, TIFF LZW And TIFF JPEG?

Jul 5, 2004

I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.

My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:

Photoshop :: Data Sets And Text Encoding

Sep 25, 2012

I have a problem when trying to import french text variables into my data sets (for automated generation of lower thirds). I can not get PS to display french special characters correct. all 'accented' As and Es etc. display as weird text strings, just like your browser running on the wrong text encoder.

How do I get PS to interpret the data sets right?

Photoshop Elements :: 12 - Save TIFF File With Extension TIFF Instead Of TIF

Dec 2, 2013

I am using PSE 12 as an external editor for Aperture.  When I ask to use an external photo editor, Aperture creates a .tiff file in my Aperture folder, launches PSE 12 and tells it to edit that .tiff file.  This all works great.  When I am done editing in PSE 12, I ask it to save the file and it saves it back to the original Aperture folder with a .tif extension.  I can instead say "save as" and then it suggests the file name with a .tif extension.  When I correct the extension to .tiff it warns me that I'm going to overwrite the file (exactly what I want!).  I say yes and then I find out that PSE did not overwrite the file, but wrote it as a .tif file anyway.  I have to go to the folder, delete the .tiff file and rename the .tif file to .tiff and then everything is fine - but what a hassle.

VideoStudio :: MPEG2-HD Encoding

Apr 25, 2012

I want to encode a video in MPEG2-HD with 1920x1080 and 24 fps (full pictures) @ 35000kbps VBR. Before i bought VS X4 i was using VS 8. There it was kind of easy to create that but in VS X4 this option is missing. I only have the choice between the PAL-DVD and NTSC-DVD Codecs. In VS 8 there was additionally MPEG and MPEG2.

Where have them gone? Or is there any other way to solve this problem? Do i have to install any additional codecs, which i had installed on my old computer where VS8 was running?

Photoshop :: Gamma Between Mac And PC PSD?

Feb 26, 2012

I work in the 3d industry and mostly create images for print and web. My problems arises I have been rendering from Maya into linear .exr format as well as some 8bit files (.iff) for masks quick fixes etc. Im working in 16bit and in Adobe (198) color profile withing PS for my comps. I need too collapse the layers down so I can provide the client with Car and background seperate in a photoshop file. The problem is when I open the file I created on a PC the background gradient appears much darker when viewed on a Mac.

(I also tested doing it on a mac and the same problem occurs in reverse).

The window transparencies appear much brighter. Howerever the car interior remains relatively the same between mac and pc. Because I have probably been working with files with different gammas applied to them is there some way Photoshop saves this within the layers? I have had to just settle to get it right on mac assuming they will open it on a mac and be able to save a jpeg that will look the same on both pc and mac. This however does not seem to be a good workaround and have never encountered this problem before. I have tried just about every merging method, and have had plently of experience doing this, however this has got me completely stumped. i am aware of the gamma difference between mac 1.8 and PC 2.2.

Photoshop :: CS4 Gamma?

Mar 18, 2009

I've been using Lightroom and PS CS3.

I've just updated to CS4 and now when I send a photo from LR to PS it always looks too light. I find to get LR and PS looking similar I have to apply an exposure adjustment mask with a gamma correct of 0.86 in PS?

I'm using;

Vista Ultimate 32bit

Photoshop CS4 v11.0.1

Lightroom v2.3

Camera Raw 5.3

Nvidia 9600GT (1GB memory)

My monitors are calibrated and profiled using GretagMacBeth Profile maker 5.05 and an Eye One Pro, the profiles have been applied as system profiles so Vista loads them correctly.

This issue has only come into being since installing CS4.

VideoStudio :: Enable Hardware Acceleration In X4 For Encoding?

VideoStudio :: How To Enable Hardware Encoding Acceleration

Jan 10, 2013

I discovered reading the "fine print" for another product that if you have an ATI or AMD graphics card, you may need to download and install the AVIVO codec package from AMD's website in order to enable hardware acceleration for encoding. The package is not included with AMD Catalyst 12.10.

After going to the following web site, you need to fill out a survey before you can download the package.
[URL]........

After installing the package, the "Enable Hardware Encoding Acceleration" option on the Performance tab in Preferences in VS X5 became enabled on my system.

VideoStudio :: MPEG Encoding And Advanced Settings?

Jul 29, 2011

Black is not all black when encoded to mpeg2, making DVD's. Same as it was way back in 2005 and forward. At least on my TV set. Panasonic PAL. I these days have a new 42" flatscreen Panasonic compared to my old 4:3 "fat TV set" Sony Trinitron. The same experience... I want the same look, contrast and colors, as with the DV tape straight to the TV set, even if there, offcource, could be some artifacts from the encoding itself.

Here is my almost 6 years old thread on that problem.

There was a thread once, I can't find now. Seems to be erased. I have it on paper though. The subject was MPEG encoder settings in VS11+ The starter of it was Jack_HDV and replys came from vidoman, Ken Berry and etech6355. The tip in there was to add the Advance=1 in the uvs.ini file under the subject [viodriver]. I have tried this on the new Corel VS X4 but to no sucess. The mapstructure is also a bit different in W7, users vs. document and settings. The meaning with this added line was to get another button "advanced" under the tab "compression" and be able to change "primary colors" via a dropdown list.

how to do it in Corel VS? Is it maybe something that shouldn't be doable in VS, because of licence payment to the company Mainconcept who has done the encoder. VS should maybe only have the "light" version"? Just before this new thread I managed to encode with an older version of Canopus Procoder v.2, with perfect result as it comes to black and white and also a bit stronger colors. It's so much easier if we could get the same result withing VS.

VideoStudio :: Audio / Video Synchronization After Encoding?

Nov 10, 2013

Each time I am trying to do something with Corel VideoStudio X6, I have a new issue. This time, when I try to play the preview of my full video, image blocks all the times, I have to hit the space bar two times to pause and resume playback, then it takes more than 30 seconds before playback resumes. I tried to encode the video, it worked, but after around 15 minutes, audio and video get out of sync.

I tried to contact Corel technical support and they could not do anything for me. They suggested me to install the Service Pack 1: installer pretends VideoStudio is not installed because I have an almost-full SSD and put VideoStudio in my data drive. Adding a second SSD would not solve the problem, because this would just create a new drive, and replacing the current SSD with a bigger one forces me, AGAIN, to reinstall everything! Then they suggested me to again reinstall Corel VideoStudio, but this takes hours and hours, because it tries to redownload everything and this is always waiting and blocking (and I DON'T know what to check if I have, AGAIN, to check my Internet connection).

I seem to have a colour problem with PSD files. I have tried messing around with the gamma settings for hours, colour profiles and everything else I could think of, but I cannot get rid of the problem.

As you can see the colour problem is only with PSD files. I have also taken a screenshot and compared the colour of the windows taskbar, and the PSD gives me a washed out, less bright look, yet upon export to JPG it looks fine...

Photoshop :: Adobe Gamma

Sep 12, 2008

The little program ADOBE GAMMA that appears in the Control Panel of Windows after the installation of Photoshop CS2 has now disappeared from CS3.

For whatever reason it has not been included I do not know, but then I find this little colour management to adjust the screen to match colours has been of great importance to people like me - 4 Colour Offset Output on printing ink. This is because the program that comes with the graphic cards do not favour cmyk colours but more on rgb.

Bring back the adobe gamma in the next upgrade so that I do not have to install both CS2 AND CS3 to utilize Adobe Gamma.

Photoshop :: Adobe Gamma, Where Is It?

Apr 25, 2008

I'm using a PC with Vista.

The Photoshop installer installs Adobe Gamma control panel (Adobe Gamma.cpl) into the Windows/System folder (Windows Me and 98) or the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Calibration (Windows XP and 2000), and it installs the Adobe Gamma loader application (Adobe Gamma Loader.exe) into the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Calibration folder. In addition, it installs a shortcut to the Adobe Gamma Loader application in the Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup folder (Windows Me and 98) or the Documents and Settings/All Users/Start Menu/Programs/Setup (Windows XP and 2000). As a result, the Adobe Gamma loader application appears in the Start > Programs > Startup menu and starts automatically during Windows startup.

While loading Adobe Gamma.cpl during Windows startup, the Adobe Gamma Loader application applies settings in the Adobe Gamma.cpl file to the system and applies calibration settings you saved for your monitor at the system level.

I'm doing an online course at lynda.com on Photoshop CS4, and in one part they ask you to get into Adobe Gamma to do color calibration. I can't find it . . . ?? If I go into the control panel, there's no folder for Adobe Gamma. My son suggested looking at C:Program FilesCommon FilesControl Panels, but when I get to Common Files, there's no folder in there called Control Panels.

I entered the managed folder from the Store and have nothing but a couple of 1 frame clips.

Premiere Pro :: CS6 Locks Up When Encoding Using Modified Files From After Effects?

Apr 5, 2014

I have not had any problems until I started trying to use a green screen, which has turned out to be a major pain. Ultra key did a good job, but I kept being told the after affects does a better job. My computer is a PC has 32 Gigs of ram a 4 gig video card, I7. I also just downloaded all the latest updates. I imported an AVCHD file after shooting a 30 min lesson on green screen. Had to do a lot of editing to get all put together so there were lots of cuts and I had alot nested sections so I can resize myself with the background to keep the perspective correct. After I had decent success with keying, though I wish it were better, I tried moving each indivdual video clip over to after effects to key in there. It looked like it might have been a little bit better than the using ultrakey.

Anyways, after taking forever to get all these clip edited in after affects, I wanted to export my completed video so I could see how well it worked. I never got the the chance because no matter what I choose under MPG2 it would lock up around 8%. Even when I tried to get to encode a 2min section of the video, it still locks up. The only way to get out of the program is to force it closed. As I searched for answer to this problem, someone suggested holding he shift key down while you open CS6, but that did not work. BTW the same file exports fine as long as I do not send any of the footage to after effect

it would be nice to be able to try and use after affects as well so I can at least see if the final result of the keying is better or not.

Photoshop :: Gamma For Grayscale To Be Printed

Apr 4, 2012

I'm confused about gamma adjustment. I'm getting a book ready to be published by a print on demand company. It involves making a PDF using InDesign which contains photos which I've edited in Photoshop. The company has a list of specifications " to be sure that my PDF prints properly",and one of them says "The gamma of a grayscale image should be between 2.2 and 2.4." I don't know how to interpret this. If I change the gamma of a photo to 2.2 it obviously becomes much lighter, but then when it's saved the new lighter document has a gamma of 1.

I know I'm not understanding this at all. I've looked all over trying to figure this out. Most references refer to gamma adjustments for monitors, and I get that. I also know that when things are printed they will come out darker because of dot gain.

2. Removed Adobe Gamma Loader.exe and Adobe Gamma.cpl from the folder C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeCalibration.

There didnt appear to be any remove feature in the control panel, but the Gamma control panel now doesnt appear in the control panel and the PC reboots without any errors.
