Is there any way to crop/convert mts files from 16:9 to 4:3 so it can be used for TV broadcast? We produce a PATV program & some of our partners only output 4:3 so our shows are compressed.

I did a short test using the Crop filter and I got my entire video frame with black bars instead of my small area at 320x240. Can VSP X4 render just the subset of the entire frame at 320x240? If so, what tool(s), filter(s) should I use?
How does one crop video, I have some clips for a video I am working on. I need the footage but I just want to crop out the unwanted part of the clip at the bottom of the footage.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought VSX5 Ultimate last week to go with my new GoPro Hero2, climbed the learning curve, and can now produce presentable videos. I've read the (not very complete) VS User Guide, checked Corel's Knowledgebase, spent the better part of thirty hours twiddling filters (rendering to a 1280x720 output file and viewing that outside of VS) and spent about eight hours searching this forum and the Interweb for the answer to no avail, so here I am:
I have 1920x1080 30p MP4 video from the camera, but want to crop it to 1280x720, and not lose image quality. Can VSX5 do this, and/or how?
I'm new to video, but very old to photography. When I say "crop" I mean "throw away the area outside of my cropping rectangle, resulting in an image of smaller dimensions."
I do not mean "fill the area outside my cropping rectangle with the color of my choice, resulting in an image of the same dimensions" as happens when using the Crop Borders filter.
Video Pan & Zoom doesn't work as the final results are abominable; as soon as I specify 150% zoom (amount needed to make a 1280x720 area fill a 1920x1080 area) quality is lost. The Cropping filter produces the same (lost) quality results. Distort Clip does the best job but still suffers some image quality degradation, and it's nearly impossible to get a precise "150%" crop (or "33% reduction" as my Photoshop brain thinks) as dragging the handles is all by eyeball. I think the problem is that all of these options entail two steps: (1) Enlarging the area I want to keep, causing it to fill the frame -- AND losing quality in the interpolation process. (2) Saving the entire frame (clip), now filled with lower-quality "larger pixels" so to speak, at a smaller size than original.
My Project Properties are NTSC drop frame (29.97fps), AVI, 24bits, 1920x1080, 29.97fps, Frame-based, Uncompressed, PCM, 48kHz, 16bit stereo.
My Movie Template that I'm using is MPEG-4, 24 bits, 1280x720, 29.97fps, Frame-based, H.264 High Profile Video: 12500 Kbps, 48000Hz, 16bit, Stereo, MPEG AAC Audio: 128Kbps.
Am I trying to do something that can't be done? Am I overcomplicating something? Am I missing the "photographic crop" filter?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to overlay a few videos side by side where I crop each video to a third of its size only showing what I cropped per video. I used the crop fx but the borders are solid black and the videos behind them do not bleed through. Is there a way to crop the videos ( mask them ) so that only a portion shows and the other overlays show through? ( like three slices ).
I could just overlay one over the other but the subject is not always on the left or right side of the video and may be centered so I'd have to trim the sides.
I'm trying to integrate 16:9 HD video clips into a 4:3 project (or vica versa). Obviously it will take cropping the edges but how? VS does not appear to be up to the task that I can figure. Maybe a third party utility?

Ideally it would be best to have some kind of shortcut for example that when changing size and pressing Alt key it would act like a mask (a bit like Power Clip in Corel Draw )
Is there an easier way to crop a video than using the cropping filter? I'd love to flip some bit that makes dragging in the border of a video crop instead of distorting the aspect ration. Is there a faster way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs I did all my recording, I noticed a distracting element in the bottom right corner of the image and I would like to crop it out. I calculated that I could use the crop filter at 90% and it gets rid of that annoyance. However, this leaves some black space around, which I don't need. Maybe I need something more like a zoom-in so I can only see 90% of the original image, but taking up the whole space available (without that frame around). I would assume that exists but I cannot find it, or if there is a different process, I have not figured it out.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNo matter what, when I crop an image, even just the tiniest amount off of the edges my files are shrinking drastically. If I don't touch the file with cropping, it doesn't shrink when I save. So it's not a compression issue that I know of. An example would be of a 6 or 7 mb file shrinking down to anywhere from 900 something kb to 1.5 mb. I do these files for a photographer and for enlargements bigger than 8x10 that just won't work, so he has to re-do them, and he doesn't get this issue like I do. Is it possibly a setting in CS5? I've been banging my head over this for a few days because it's driving him crazy.
I'm just doing simple edits, curves in the studio and actions outdoors. Batch saving---if you think it could possibly something involved in that. (which I don't because it happens even when I don't batch save.)
Photoshop raw is cropping my cr2 images even after I have removed the crop in DPP (Digital Photo Professional - Canon's own raw editing software). I have many images cropped by a Canon 5D3 as it forces a 16:9 crop when you take a still while in video mode. The rest of the data is in the raw file, but this is not read by Camera Raw which forces the 16:9 crop. I have removed the crops in DPP, and even re-cropped with a different crop, saved the files and used every way I can imagine to get them into PS short of turning them into tiffs. I do not want to save as a tiff, as I really like the tools in PS Raw, especially the exposure tool (I am no great photographer but I have some very special and irreplaceable pics form fieldwork overseas which are ahem errr not quite correctly exposed).
My ideal worflow is open folder in DPP - star rate the pics I want to work on. crop them (nice to do this in DPP as it is part of the selection process) then get them into Camera Raw without any more effort, then if an image can be tweaked - do it as a Raw, if it needs more work - get it into PS6 as a tiff and go from there. This seems to minimise effort and minimise file space, at the expense of having two different file types.
is there a better way to review 300 similar pics and get the best selected and processed? I have PS6 with raw 7.3.
I'm starting to get serious about photography. I've shot a batch of photos that need manual processing. There are a couple of steps where I should be able to save one or two keystrokes every time. This may sound minor, but when I have to do it time after time after time, it gets annoying. This is not intended to be a rant, but rather a request for info about changing defaults to speed things up for me.
I'm running Gimp 2.6.11 on Gentoo linux (64-bit). I've looked at"Edit ==> Preferences", but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
1) I need to crop photos, but the manual "crop tool" is not the best fit. I prefer to use "Image ==> Canvas Size". My problem is that the Width+Height aspect ratio defaults to staying constant. I.e. if I crop the X size, the Y size changes proportionally. I do NOT want that. I have to manually click on the link to break the linkage. Sometimes I forget, which can get really annoying, when cropping in one dimension crops the other as well. How can I change the default to not link the X+Y sizes?
2) Saving stuff to PNG *) After having done any cropping, I obviously want to save my work.Saving to PNG pops up a dialog about "Your image should be exported before it can be saved...", Is there any way to get the PNG save routine to "just do it", rather than popping up a dialogue?
*) If I'm saving to a new PNG file, I get *YET ANOTHER DIALOGUE* with settings for compression/interlacing/etc/etc. I never change the default settings, so this is another extra annoyance to me. How can I get the"save as" command to "just do it"?
I know the above may sound minor, but it does get annoying after the umpteenth time.
I want to divide up a bunch of scanned in photos quickly. I have 4 or 5 photos . Aligned next to each other in each scan.

Since I am unable to find a script that simply opens up the next document in the folder and I would have to manually find the next file each time (remember that files are unselected in Finder after having been saved), which would prove to be quite tedious.

I bought some vector eps files from Shutterstock. Most of these vectors are a bunch of smaller image elements.(For Instance Icons)What I would like to do is to find a way to batch crop all of the layers out of the eps and into png files.Of course they would need slightly different names.
I have seen where you can do something similar, but the smaller images are on a full size transparent background. I would prefer that they are auto cropped.I have the full CS6 Through Adobe Creative Cloud. So I can use illustrator for part of this if needed.
I have a few thousand files that I need to process into colour swatches for a web site. The process entails locating a suitable area of each image, cropping that area to 25 pixels square, and saving the result. Obviously, I need to be able to do this as quickly as possible; ideally with just a single click for each image, and so I'd like to set up a script in order to batch-process the images. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that a suitable position on one image is going to be at all suitable for another, so a limited amount of interactivity is required.
Is it possible to set up an interactive batch task, or would some other approach be required?
when I select the crop tool, my image disappears during the entire crop process. I can only see the image in the preview pane. Why is this happening? I am using the most current version of Lightroom, and I am on a PC.

How do you cut out something from an image if it needs to be rotated while cropping? I tried rotating first then cropping but it does not give me enough precision so I end up with transparent areas at the border.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the old days, one could just use the crop tool and, while drawing crop lines, check the perspective box if you found that you needed to change the perspective. With CS6 if you start with the crop tool, and find you want to change the perspective, you have to change tools to the new perspective crop tool. In the process, you have to tell the newly opened dialog box that you don't want to crop, to get to the perspective tool, which now has reset to its defaults. You've lost your cropping and you have to start over.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been using the crop tool without any knowledge of the little boxes you can fill in to restrict its WxH dimensions. I always wanted my crops to come out at a 2:3 ratio and could never get them perfect since I was just eyeballing it.
So then I found the WxH controls and if I put "2 in" for width and "3 in" for height, my image will come out as desired, no scaling of the image, but with the unfortunate side effect that my DPI has been changed, which causes problems for me later on. Now if I put "2 in" x "3 in" and then specify 72dpi in the "resolution" field, it will actually scale my image which is not what I want either. Now if I put "2 px" by "3 px" of course it will massively scale my image, which again is not what I want.
What I want is to re-crop my image to a 2:3 ratio, WITHOUT scaling, AND without modifying DPI. Is this possible with the crop tool? It seems that my WxH numbers are required to have units after them and I don't want any of those units (inches, px, mm, etc). I want unitless cropping, basically cropping by ratio. Does this make any sense?
I have a work-around which involves batch resetting all my DPI's at the end of the session. But that adds another step to my workflow which is not a very elegant solution.
I'm trying to change a few MTS file(AVCHD) to .MOV files,is this possible using ProX4? I have tryed this but the sounds is all messed up or the video is always sticky when trying to watch the outcome.

Just got a Kodak si8 video camera for my bday... It records in MOV - I am able to open them up and I get through the whole video - 7 minutes... then I go back to clip some areas and the sound gets choppy!?? If I save - close the program and open up again -- I get the sound AOK again ???
What is this about?
