AutoCad :: Printing Drawing - Squared Print Error
Nov 26, 2013Strange issue when printing a drawing. For some reason whenever I send this drawing to print the 'squared' symbols get replaced with either some overlapping numbers or the letter E.
Unfortunately I can't take a photo of the result but I'll provide an image of what I'm trying to print.
Plotting as a .pdf works fine (print preview also looks fine) and is the current work-around but it would be good to get a proper solution because it's likely these will be printed again from AC in the future and we'll forget and the client will get a stodgy drawing and I'll be sad.

May 24, 2012I have noticed in Photoshop CS5.1 and CS6 strange behaviour when saving for web file as PNG-24.
case1.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and layer mask hide selection (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 131.4k
case2.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and delete pixels (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 66.93k
Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?
VideoStudio :: Store On Blu-ray Versus DVD
Apr 27, 2013I recently started a project to transfer all home movie media to hardisc and then to BD and/or DVD. My goal has been to transfer home movies to discs with a menu and chapters... nothing very fancy. The media includes VHS, digital 8, and probably video 8 (in-laws videos). I'm also looking at a Sony Handycam HDR-XR500 that I plan to back up to hard drive and probably disc for easier viewing. I've only just started with one VHS tape and about 25 digital 8 tapes. I essentially used the default capture settings for the VHS (NTSC DVD, 8GB, MPEG-2, 720x480, 30 frames/sec). I used the DV Quick Scan to capture all the digital 8 (microsoft AVI, 720x480, 30 frames/sec). I then started fiddling with the Create Disc under Share. This is where I've started to run into questions.
I had assumed that it would be better to start recording to BD. I've read that they have a longer shelf life than DVD although I'm happy to keep copies on hardisc. It seemed intuitive than I could fit more files on a 50 GB BD than on an 8 GB DVD. It appears I am wrong. When I test out BD and DVD recordings under Share, it seems I can't fit many more films on BD.
I had hoped to use the greater capacity of BD to store as many movies as possible and not have a large number of DVDs. Is this possible for digital 8, VHS, or the the anticipated video 8? If so, what capture settings should I use to keep reasonable quality? I suspect I'll need to recapture the original VHS at a lower bitrate which is ok. I'm looking at a box of about 40 VHS tapes from my folks that are untouched.
On a related note, I have found that I can label chapters when editing. These chapters are picked up in the Share-->Create Disc-->Add/Edit Chapter-->Auto Add Chapters, but none of the chapter labels are imported. Is there a way to do this without manually typing each label again when editing the menus?
Finally, I plan on capturing some of the video to external hardrives. If using USB 3.0, will the editing and capturing still work, or will I need to work with files on C?
VideoStudio :: 1080 Versus 720 Video In Version 4 Or 5?
May 30, 2012Are the bigger 1080 files harder to work with or slower than 720? I have a Panasonic camera that takes 720 video and VideoStudio 4 seems to handle them pretty well.
I might be getting a Canon that can do 1080 for my upcoming honeymoon. Since DVDs go back down to 480i or whatever, does shooting in 1080 really add anything quality-wise when converting to back down to 480 DVD?
I don't have a blu-ray maker on my machine, but maybe someday so don't know if should shoot videos in 1080 or 720. So should I shoot 1080 just in case? Are the files a lot bigger?

Jan 31, 2012local library with transferring their betacam based collection into digital video files.
The set up is:
Sony J3 video tape player ( a beautiful expensive machine that plays multi beta formats SX, Digi & Standerd betacam tape)
They had this set up through a switcher which in turn is connected to a TV monitor, aVHS machine and a couple of DVD recorders. Till I came along and suggested to remove one of the DVD recorders and hook that up to an external analogue to digi video converter hooked up to a PC ( now running trial version of Corel).
I set this up for them using components they already have. Their set up was so that patrons can view their audio visual collection and I'm setting them on the path of digitising their entire collection.
Basically, when I'm capturing PAL DVD standard video files the set-up and digital converter are spitting out squared pixels...so I cannot capture in the 16:9 anamorphic. This is easily fixed of course by dropping the capture to the overlay video track and selecting fit to screen. Ideally I would like to spend some money re-jigging the set-up so I capture in proper 16:9 anamorphic (and through Firewire) and avoid the extra step. We are also then producing MP4's with the view of making them into low res viewing only lets call them proxy files (with BITC to boot (Burnt in time code))
Why oh why is it so hard to custom select a known small frame size (16:9). Picking mp4 HD is NOT an option because I'm working from SD stock. Why can't I pick something like 640x360? It would make life so much easier.

I know in programs like After Effects and Combustion you can set when saving an image whether or not it is square or rectangular pixels.

Lightroom :: 5.2 Versus Canon EOS 70D RAW
Nov 16, 2013I am testing the trial version of Lightroom 5.2. My new camera is a Canon EOS 70D. When importing RAW files into Lightroom the colors of some photos are wrong. RAWs from my older 450D are fine.
For example on one photo the sky isn't blue but turquoise. When using the DNG Converter I get the same color. The sky was blue though. When opening the file in Digital Photo Professional by Canon, the sky is blue as it should be.
It happens on some other photos as well. Mostly if they have a high blue content. If in Lightroom I increase the blue content and decrease the shades it almost looks as it should.

May 9, 2012what apart from PSB's ability to handle very large files, are the advantages of one over the other? Reason I ask is the PS Autorecover file has a PSB extension, which I guess enables the feature to handle any file size. So if it is used to recover your work, why do we need to continue to have two formats. Why not just one?

Is there any reason to not layout the whole composition in AI and instead do it in PS? Is it just a matter of preference or are there strong reasons to go one way or the other?

Aug 25, 2012I found out that QuickLook in Mac OS X doesn't work properly for PSD documents if the file is saved without Maximize Compatibility feature. If you press space bar, only white canvas appears and not the actual document. I don't want to use this feature because I don't need the compatibility and all the files are much smaller without it. However, as I work with a lot of PSD files I am used to use QuickLook a lot. Is there a way to have maximize compatibility disabled and at the same time be able to use previews with QuickLook?
