View 2 RepliesI have a situation where I need to place a curved door in a curved wall, I do not want to model in place or look for a work around but would like to create a family template that that could be used frequently.
In previous versions I was able to copy the metric door.rft and rename it to i.e. Metric Door_Radial Host.rfa. I would then be able to edit this template to suit my requirements, save and rename to .rft. This template would then be live.
In 2013 it seems that I cannot open a .rfa file for editing.
I created a custom template family for a 36"x24" titleblock. now, I need to create one for a 24"x18" template family. My issue is, what is the easiest way to do this?
I cannot copy and paste content from one family to another for some reason (unless I am doing something wrong). I was thinking the easiest way is to copy the family, rename it and move the content around so that it becomes a 24"x18" template - BUT - does this affect how it plots?
I am drawing a set of houseplans in Revit 2014. I mistakeningly started my project in Architecture and did not start in the residential template. Is there a way to change templates easily so that I do not lose all my dimension information.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm finding that setting up views on a sheet is a bit cumbersome especially when creating a sheet with a lot of views. For example, I'm creating casework details & elevations and our firm's stardard is to basically set up a grid on the sheet to frame each detail drawing. The process I've been using is: 1. Place the view on the sheet, 2. change the viewport to a modified template that simply changes the text and gets rid of the default # & circle title. 3. I then have to realign the title text with the view. 4. THEN I essentially draw 2d linework to create the view frames on the sheet for each detail view.
This just seems like a cumbersome process for a program that's so intuitive. I would imagine/HOPE there would be a way to change the default for when I place a view on a page. I'd like the views to automatically show the view frame/border when they are placed on the page and then I could simply manipulate the frames to fit each page.
If there's no way to really change this default then I would imagine it would be better to change our office standard to save time. Below is a pic to show our standard sheet layout.
I recently got revit 2012. It installed fine, however I see no templates or revit family in the following folder

How should I get the families and templates for revit?
I would like to have two different layouts of my site plan. One is existing and does not show any of the new construction. The other is a complete view of the project. Is there a way to keep the existing site plan dependent while turning off the new construction to show only the previous + demo? If I set up a view template I cannot alter in the dependent view to make the changes that I want as options are greyed out. Is the only way to do this to create them as independent views?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDetail lines have global view settings - you cannot change appearance with a View Template. The Detail Items V/G category doesnt seem to include detail lines.
It is often necessary to use detail lines to avoid the chore of mading up a family to represent simple objects in plan or section - eg complex fixed furnishings like counters and shelves. Then when it comes to doing a schematic electrical layout where I want everything greyed out except the electrical content, I can use V/G overrides on all family content but not the linework. I have to pick all this invidually and then Override Graphics in View.
As with V/G template overrides, I dont want these overrides to permeate globally hence not changing line styles.
We are having a problem at our office. We are using REVIT 2014 and In our central model we link in our consultants models and hide what we dont want to see per sheet by using veiw templates. It is all fine and dandy until we have to load a newer model from them in. We delete the old model name the new one the same name once we do this everything we wanted hidden comes back on on our sheets and we have to rinse and repeat.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup and manage some view templates.
Can changes made in the View Template settings Automatically update in ALL views that are utilizing that specific template, without re-applying? My only way now is to select all the views from the project browser and Apply View Template again. (every time i make changes for that matter)
Some files i work in, other users come in and override lots of the view template stuff on an element basis. Is there a command to reset all overrides for that specific view, or multiple views?
Using "transfer Project Standards", I'm having trouble getting everything to come across, particularly the V/G Overrides Filters. They are included in the View Template in the original project, but are all missing after transfer.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have made up furniture for layout views using the metric detail item template. Probably too many in this model category but it was a short cut to achieving presentation layouts. How can I now filter out certain detail items without zapping the rest. In this case it will be loose furniture but some fixed furniture is needed to remain visible in the next stage construction layout views. I want to do this by view template so that a) the view on sheet can be switched back to the presentation layout and b) keep the sheet as a revision rather than a new sheet.
Its not my preferred way of dong this but I am adapting to another architectural practices standard where sheet numbers are fixed and the layouts (GA's) retain the same number through sketch - tender - construction - as built stages (using a status sheet parameter and revision sequence)
I'm having problem changing the default location for templates in Application Options of Inventor 2013. If I set the location to a folder in my server, the template files aren't showing up. It's like there's nothing there. I've never found this problem before. The templates are shared on the network, so it's the same for everybody. Now it's necessary to everyone copy them locally, which is not the best practice in my opinion.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwe have just upgraded from Inv 2011 to 2013. I am trying to create the drawing templates in 2013 by using the blank 2013 template and then copying our border from 2011 onto it. This works a treat apart from 1 thing.
The i properties do not get copied over as well so the sheet is blank from drawing number, title and the custom properties etc.
I have installed Building Design Suite Premium 2012 and i can´t find the metric libraries or metric templates for any of the 3 revits.
Any of you know how to do it???

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am wondering why RPC content in Revit Architecture 2013 is not exporting, or linking when I open up the project in 3Ds Max Desing 2013. I have tried FBX, and linking that, as well as linking an .RVT file, =either "imported" the RPC objects.
Why doesn't 3Ds Max Design support these objects and is there any way to get them into 3Ds Max.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was recently provided an upgraded workstations, among other things featuring 32gb of ram. Although the new machine dramatically increased rendering power, Revit doesn't run noticeably faster and only makes use of 4gb max of memory, the same as the previous machine with 16gb total RAM. Is there any way of allocating more RAM and/or processor power to revit? A fair bit of searching didn't reveal anything.

I am trying to use an Opacity Map in a Revit 2013 material. However, it seems to modify all materials of that category rather than the specific material (ie: Chrome, Polished) - same thing happens even if I duplicate and rename a material. I am trying to create a perforated metal screen panel for a curtain wall and an opcity map seemed the logical strategy
View 3 Replies View RelatedA coworker believes an elevation tag can be placed in plan view A, but can be moved in plan view B without relocating it in plan view A. My experience...move an elevation tag in one view and it will be relocated in all views. Is there a way to have two different locations but reference the same elevation?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am just getting back to autocad after using vectorworks for a few years. In vectorworks I was creating smart walls and plugging in windows, doors ect.
Are intelligent objects only used in Revit? Are people still offsetting wall lines and creating their own windows and doors and cutting out openings in Autocad theses days?

When creating custom materials and utilizing them within your Revit project, are the image files embedded within the RVT file and thereby increasing file size? I was needing to know before we load down the project file (.rvt) with many custom materials. Hopefully it is just a pointer to a separate material file.

"The update release could not be installed because the expected Autodesk product could not be located on your computer. Make sure that you are using the correct Update Release for the product."

View 7 Replies View RelatedGranted this is a minor issue, but when Revit 2013 is opened, before actually opening a project file, if I click the add-ins or some of the other menus, they don't appear in the right spot. See attachment as an example.
