Revit :: Importing A 3D CAD Image
Jul 29, 2012
I am using Revit 2012 Architecture and I have tried to import a 3D drawing from the Wolf/Subzero appliance line. When I try to import the drawing I get the message:
Â
"Some ACIS objects could not be imported. To import them, use AutoCAD to convert them into polymesh objects and reimport."how to go about converting the objects in basic/novice terms?

I have Revit 2012. Trying to import a titleblock from Architectural Desktop 2006. When I follow the User Guide guidelines I get to step 3 and then this message:
Â
"Import Geometry Not VisibleThe import geometry will not be visible in the view using the current settings. The origin of the import will be centered on the origin of the model instead. You can view the import in any view where its geometry is within the extents." The ZF command only opens up the Import CAD formats window. The original titleblock is in modelspace of the dwg file.Â

I have an annotation tag which has a colored title bar using a colored region as a background to the title text. Â However having created a standard drafting detail in a 'Standard Details' project, using one of these annotation tags, when copied into a new project the color is replaced by black losing the title text in the background.

I am new to Revit and am currently looking at bringing in a road alignment as a dwg file from autoCAD. I can bring it in ok and it appears in some of my levels and elevations (still not sure how to properly control them) but how can I set up corresponding levels and grids for my road whilst keeping the roads original coordinates?

I'm trying to make a layoout on Revit. I have done sections and plans made on Revit and all is ok. But when I try to create a rectangular detail, such as in Plan, which contains a CAD file, I noticed that since the center of Revit is not aligned with the center of the dwg, the detail is moved and takes up a very large rectangle . When I try to drag the window "detail of Plan" within the table layout, the rectangle occupies the entire sheet.

I have a fairly complex irregular surface model that originally came from Microstation. I have it as sat version 7 and dwg. My goal is to import it to Revit (Building design suite 2013, so I have architecture/structure/systems available) and use the surface to cut a regular wall that was created in Revit.
When I insert the surface, it comes in as an Import Symbol. I understand that I will need to change it to a cuttable family type, but do not know how. Also, I am unsure if I can use a surface to cut, or whether it needs to be a solid instead?
I was also trying to extrude a void ending to one side of the surface in order for it to cut any solid objects (such as walls) that appear on that side in the project, but was unable to accomplish this.

I linked a revit file of some renovations that had been done into an older revit file. This worked fine accept it did not transfer the room data over. When i try to put new rooms in they take the volume of the older rooms not the renovation imports. Why? Why? and why?
Even if I draw out the rooms when i place the room they are still separated and defined by the older room dimensions. Thats not cool that is sad?

When doing composites, I usually start with a 16-bit background image opened into PS from a RAW file pre-edited in ACR. Then I bring in other objects/elements I shot at the same bit depth. However, I occasionally see an 8-bit JPEG stock photo that would be useful. What would be the limitations of importing an 8-bit file into my main 16-bit composite image, and is there a way to compensate?

I feathered an image that I'm using as a foreground. I want to blend another image as the background with some color changing effects. I'm quite new to photoshop, so I don't know how to even import the image as a layer and not some totally other project.

I'm experiencing a strange behavior when i import a DXF with a plugin for AutoCAD 2012, but only when i'm on Win7 64bits.
The plugin normally (in WinXP) would load the .dxf file, then if it has a reference for an ortophoto picture, it places the picture on the right place and "visible" (you'll get what i mean by this later).
On the other hand, on win7 64bits when i import the dxf file using the plugin, it only shows the frame of the picture, but no picture inside!
cadgis_1
But, if i close the file i just opened and open the .dxf using Autocad "default" open, on the layout the picture is showing just like it was supposed to...
Autocad_layout
So, now i've opened the .dxf using Autocad, let's try again to open it using the plugin and.... voilá! The picture is displayed, bright and shinny! A miracle i must say!
cadgis_2
And if i open it again using the "default" open from Autocad, not only it displays the picture on Layout but also on the Model!
Autocad_Model
I'll attach the dxf with the external .tiff file.

Tiff File
I wasn't able to upload the picture, so i've placed in a zip file and attached it to the post.

I've just exported as catalog 2 images from an older catalog ( process version 2010 into LR5. there was no way to automatically convert them to 2012 process.I had to turn on the calibration panel in Develop mode and then set it to 2012 and then copy the 2012 calibration to the other image.
Â
As a check, I checked this by exporting 1 image that was process version 2010 into LR5 and it automatically made it 2013,
Â
Then I checked it again, imported a catalog from LR 4.3 which had only process version 2010 images in. The import upgraded and disgarded the temp library used in the upgrade process, and again, there was no option to automatically convert the images to PV2013.
See graphic below
Â
Which has to be a dropbox link as the add image is not working in Chrome this morning,

I'm importing RAW files straight from a CF card reader into my network storage drive via LR5.3. While reviewing as it imports initially each image looks great but a few seconds after it loads onto the screen it seems like LR applies a bit of extra brightness and lessens the contrast and I lose a load of detail that was there originally. I've not touched the import settings and no filters are being applied by myself on import.

I have just bought Ultimate X6 and encountered serious problem already.
The question is, "Is it possible to completely disable re-scaling image on the import?"
It seems like it has only 2 options, "Fit to project" and "Keep aspect ratio".
What I want is something "Keep source resolution" because when I put an image of a map, which is 2 or 3 times larger than the project resolution, the image become completely useless due to the re-scaling.
Now, again, is there way to ditch this re-scaling?

I'm trying to assemble a figure for a publication in a journal. one of the images has been created by the person who generated the data using MS paint.the files he has sent so far have not had resolution above 96 dpi, saved as a png. I need better res files to send to the publisher, I'm hoping we can save it out such that it will be 600dpi?
I'm laying out the final figure in photoshop, and have created a high resolution document in which to import this image from paint with some other images. however, when i check the res on the files that he's given me so far, it's screen res.

A friend of mine has been happily using / importing Sony Nex 7 Raw images into Lightroom 4.2 / 4.3 for a long time when suddenly this happens.
Â
Note the grey border all around the image.
Â
This file was imported with: No develop presetNo metadata preset.Process 2012.Various std in the box profiles. Here is a screen paste of the file dimensions (also showing that it is a raw file and not cropped).
Â
All Sony Nex raw files imported to a particular machine (Win 7, 64 bit) demonstrate this behaviour. So, in trying to trace the problem.
Â
The crop tool was checked to make sure there was no crop applied. They grey border is not just a visual border. If you examine the jpg it is actually grey pixels consuming a large percentage of the native 6000x4000 Nex 7 resolution. The Reset button was pressed also,to make sure the raw file conversion was restored to basecamp.History reset.A raw image imported into the same machine / software from a Nikon D300 behaves perfectly.Previously imported Nex 7 Raw images are ok.When the images are imported into two other machines they imports perfectly.Scrapping the preference file makes no difference.Overlay mode was checked, an overlay image loaded and then overlay mode turned off… just to make sure this was NO overlay.Applying a crop and then removing a crop still leaves the grey border.Applying the crop reduces the image dimensions to approx.. 4946 x 3293.  Exporting an image to jpg (as shown) leaves image with grey border. This grey border can be cropped out, but it means the resolution will reduce.Exploring various scene modes / in camera crops / resolution settings on the camera does not seem to make any difference.Formatting the card in the camera, take a picture, import directly from card. 3 different cards used.  (No change). When using the Catelog on a different machine the grey border remains.Â
NB Camera set to RAW + jpeg. Jpeg's import without border.
Â
So finally last night…
……. we uninstalled Lightroom 4.3 and re-installed into a different folder. (No change).

Before I got LR4 I developed a series of images (thousands) with Bridge and Photoshop. I've now decided to build a LR catalog of the series.
Â
As I import I want to use the Image # option to rename files, making the whole mess of photos "cleaner" with unique names, etc. Of course I want ot import Raw's and the Tif/Psd images I made along the way. I notice the Image numbering process does NOT recognize the relationship between the raw and edited files. So files (img_123.nef and img_123.tif) become (img-01.nef and img-02.tif). I would prefer the tif file be named img-01.tif so the link between the two remains obvious.
Â
Key to creation date & time? I realize this is a really specific issue, but if the point is to make the series tidier and more coherent it would be a useful feature.
