View 2 RepliesI have a situation where the default behavior of my rectangle tool (or any of the other shape tools) is now different. I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.5 running Illustrator CS5. It acts as though the option-shift keys are pressed, so whenever I draw an object, it draws from the center point and the dimensions are constrained, so i can only draw a square or circle, not a rectangle or ellipse. Additionally, whenever I use the selection tool, it clones the object I drag, and also constrains the positioning, so i can only drag in a 0, 45 or 90 degree angle (or multiples thereof). It's as if my option-shift keys are permanently pressed (if I actually press option-shift, the behavior persists). I tried using a different (brand new) keyboard, tried throwing away preferences, and the problem remains. I also tried booting up Illustrator CS4, and the weird problem showed up there! This behavior just started happening spontaneously. I couldn't think of anything weird that happened (a crash, a new plug-in, etc.). I can't find a preference that sets this behavior either.

As well, I want to draw multiple lines on one layer, however everytime I draw a line, i get a new layer!
I want to erase the watermark and x mark from a istock image for comping purposes. What is the easiest/fastest way to do this? Clone Stamp/patch tool? If stamp tool, how do you get the tool to delete the x line in a straight line. Mine always copys pixels next to it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to make it so when you're drawing a line you can see how it actually will look like?
On paint it shows exactly how the line looks as ur drawing it,
but on Photoshop it shows some rectangle outline of the line.
The line tool icon has disappeared from the tool bar and I don't know how to re-activate it.
View 2 Replies View Related1. if i draw a line using the line tool.. can i curve it to say 40 degrees like i can with the text function?
2. So ya that one was easy.. hows bout when i want to cut something out ACCURATELY, the pen function, right? (according to a friend)when i make all those little boxes and select the area i want to cut, all that gets copied are the outer lines, which i presume is what ive just drawn.. how do i cut the area inside this?
3. and finally maybe a slightly less easy one- In Paint, when you cut out an object and paste it, you can select for the white of the image to become transparent so you can paste over what you have already.. is thee a feature in PS for this?
I'm trying to use the line tool to draw a colored line, I draw the line via Line tool, it appears in grey, I right click>stroke path and select Pencil > OK, the line is still grey and not the foreground color. If I do the same with a Rectangle Tool, it works fine and darws me a nice colored rectangle. What am I doing wrong? This is driving me nuts...!!

The line tool can change a line to dashes but this is a bit too uniform for hand stitching. I have seen a tutorial on doing this in Photoshop where a brush is made with a few small different length strokes. this is then spaced out and made to follow a path. how to create a hand stitch effect using X5 that looks like natural hand stitching...

I use CS5 and have now a small arrow on my line segment tool (as shown in the picutres):
Ever since that when i click shift, it just allows me to draw vertical lines, rather than vertical or horizontal.
I use the ruler tool a lot more frequently than the eyedropper, but PS keeps defaulting back to the eyedropper. Is there any way to make the ruler the default tool for that group?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen using the pen tool a person can create a line by eyeballing its angle. But if you hold down Shift while creating a line the program has default angle settings. I was hoping there are way to create setting profiles, or just plain changing the default setting of the Shift/snap-to option for the pen tool. I am working on HUD layouts and designs and am finding it difficult to concistantly get the angle I need. Eyeballing resaults in varying angles (barely, but I can notice it), but the Shift/snap-to angles are too sharp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using GIMP 2.6.11. When I use the line tool and left click + shift to snap a line from point to point, there's no preview line that shows exactly where the line is going to be drawn. In former version(s) of GIMP, I could clearly see where the line was going to be placed because of this feature. I miss it because when doing technical drawings precision and exact angles are needed. Is this feature not included with GIMP 2.6.11? How I can get this tool to work like it used to?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got CS6 (Using the Cloud so most up to date version).I want to draw a line segment. I select .5pt for the stroke width. I draw the line whilst holding down Shift so it's straight. It defaults to 1pt width. I select it and try to change the width using both the appearances panel and the tool bar. It automatically defaults back.
I draw the line on an angle and it remains at .5pt. But I don't want an angled line. I want a straight line. I draw it with the pen tool and it defaults to 1pt.

Also, when i export to jpg the preset displays "custom" with cmyk color selected. My computer is having a hard time with designs of any size and takes forever to load the preview and export. When it finally loads the preview the design is not visible. if I select rgb color mode the design appears in the preview window and appears to load without any issues. I would like to make rgb the preset color mode. I have tried to select one of the default presets (high quality jpg) and save it but can't seem to figure out how to make it the default setting when i export to jpg.
I didn't want to migrate to Pro 6 when it was released, I was stuck with Xtreme Pro 5 (5.x something) for years. I got myself Designer Pro 7 some days ago and it's much faster, so decided to give it a try.
I've designed tons of things with the product family and I have my habits. OK, some things are different here, most can be customized, it's just a bit annoying/frustrating process, but anyway. Thing I cannot modify (nor can find registry hack for it, I already had to tackle registry for end line selection blobs, that's crazy) is following: for the way I design, I really have need for constant use of zero width line.
Know about zero width line, I've been using successfully for ages and when doing freehand drawing, it's much easier for me to have zero width, then convert it to what's necessary (or create shapes out of it).
However, if I put it to 0, and I start new freehand line, it goes to 0.5pt by default. I can start line at 0.5pt, then get it down to 0, and it works, as long as it's the same line. However, as soon as new line is needed, it reverts back to 0.5pt. If I select 0.1 (manually) or even 0.01 or whatever, it does work. But not with zero. Any chances to modify that, either in Xara or in registry?
I like the antialiased lines, for my own reasons and makes it easier for me to design.
When I label contours by "Contour Multiple", I get a line going thru my contours. I can remove this thru the Properties pallette.
Is there a setting somewhere to make it default to not draw a line?

Is it possible to change the order of the tools upon a keyboard shortcut press? For example, I want the path eraser, but have to go through the pencil and smooth tools first; is there any way to bring the eraser to the top of that stack or assign it to it's own shortcut?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to changed the default visible line weight for all drawings. I just can't get it to work. I have changed my project file settings to "Read-Write", I have tried this in both the Default Standard and my own standard. I changed the "Visible (ANSI)" Line Weight, saved it, then hit "Save" on the Styles and Standards bar. It works for a document. But when I open a new document, the line weight has reverted back to the old value.
