If I draw a rectangle and use Extrude&Bevel to create a 3D "box" shape, how do I wrap a single line of text around three of the sides? I've created a Symbol from the text, and it shows up in the "Map Art" dialog window's "Symbols" selection, but only one face of the 3D box is shown at a time. I was hoping to see a flattened box shape showing all six faces so I could accurately place the line of text. Similar to what you see when you revolve a path to get a 3D object.
It's even worse if I apply a bevelled edge to the extrusion -- then there are 40 separate "faces" to deal with.
Using illustrator CC, I want to curve the bottom line of my text upwards, but not have the top or sides move at all. Imagine of the text was something squishy, and I pushed it down onto the top of an arc. I've only been working with Adobe CC for about a week now. I've seen lots of examples of having the text follow a curved path, but they all curve the entire thing, whereas I only want the bottom of the text to curve.

The only way I can think to do it is to put a layer over the top of it with the color I want and then reduce the optacity - but this never works because it just looks brown or something. Is there a way to remove the green and replace it with Orange using this file?

I used an outer glow layer style to make a curvy gradient but it fades towards the edges of the canvas. Is there any way to get rid of the fade short of making the style larger than I need and then cropping it, or is there a better way to make a gradient like this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm coming from Fireworks.A technique I use often in my ui work is to combine a texture with a gradient that fades the gradients color and the pattern to transparent.
In Fireworks, this can be done on a single layer with no mask. The transparency of the gradient affects the pattern. This is not the case in Photoshop. I am wondering how I can accomplish the same thing in Photoshop, while keeping everything vector.
Why is it that the fades in the 3DStudioMax 2012 can't be visualized in the preview?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe only way I have found to remove lines in a fade was to paint over it. In the image, I find some of the colors don't change when trying to blend resulting in even more evident fades. I'm corel photopaint x6, how can I make this background smooth and without the lines?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using cad 2013 and my boss needs something that appears smaller as it fades into the distance. it has occurred to me that I've always looked past the fact that autocad makes everything the same size (i.e. any circle drawn at 90mm will look the same in front view no matter how far you space them in top view). So the program doesn't give the natural "fading into the distance" effect. is there a way to make it look more realistic using a view or rendering or something that I am unaware of?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am working as a graphic pre-press sublimation artist here in Australia. At the moment we are having issues with fades not looking good when we print them using the Onyx 10 program. We get magenta lines running though our fades, predominantly when we fade from royal to white. However! when we print using onyx 7 the fades work fine. It is not viable for us to use onyx 7 for all jobs as the colours lose a lot of vibrancy.

View 1 Replies View Related I have been in the process of making a map which I currently have in illustrator. I also downloaded some administrative boundaries which I have converted to a path in illustrator and am trying to overlay on top of this map.
The problem is, it just doesn't line up. If the top is aligned, the bottom and sides will be off.
Is there a way to select a few points on the path of which I know the exact position on the map and have illustrator warp, skew, resize the path and it will magically fit?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a header for a website, 500x100, that has a photo image, 300x100, in the center that has both right and left edges feathered. On the left edge it would fade to white, on the right edge it would fade to blue. Seems like I've seen similar things on other sites.
First I thought I'd just place a blue rectangle on the right half of the piece and place the image over it in the center with both edges feathered. But if I feather one edge (with the gradient tool), trying to feather the other edge undoes the first edge's feathering. I still don't really get working with layers.
Then I thought I'd just feather the left edge of the image and place a blue rectangle with a feathered left edge over the right edge of the image. But when I draw a rectangle, the gradient tool doesn't work and I can't feather the edge. If I select the tool and click in the rectangle I get a message that the content of the layer isn't directly editable and I can't figure out how to make it editable.
At this point, I'm not even sure what method I should be using to accomplish this task. Should I be feathering one edge and blurring the other? I think I did get it done once before by starting with an image that had lots of extra height, feathering all 4 edges and cropping off the top and bottom feathered parts but this image doesn't have that much extra to work with.
I'm sure these are stupid questions but the tutorials, tips and how-to's I've looked at always seem talk about how to feather one or all edges, not two. It doesn't help that I'm still not really familiar with all the tools and terminology.
I would certainly appreciate at least a pointer to what methods I should be using. I feel like I'm trying to use a chisel as a screwdriver.
How would I extend the following image into 3D so that the color gradients of the individual sides are the same as the faces..

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create an action that takes one image and repeats it on all four sides to make a square (we are picture framers and am trying to create image files of our frames from one picture of a piece of frame). I have managed to create the action to do this, but some of the frames are different widths and if I set the action to go on a smaller frame it doesnt push the image up to the edge of the canvas. It leaves a white space between the edge of the image and the edge of the canvas.
I tried to set the point of origin with co-ordinates in the transform mode when creating the action, to make sure that every image went where I wanted it to, but this hasnt worked.
way that I can paste an image into a new canvas and pin point where I want that image to go?

I am using PS CS6 extended on Win 7.
Two Questions
1) How do I color the top and sides of a 3D object, made by extrusion a rectangle, with a gradient color? In what I am doing.... I don't really care about the "texture" of the 3D rectangle, I want the top and sides to match the gradient I made on the face of the rectangle. I see the in properties of the extruded material the diffuse, specular, illumination and ambient settings.....but none of these lets you pick a gradient color.
I "guess" I can make separate layers to build a 3D rectangle box, and warp/distort the visible top and side after coloring it with a gradient..........but it seems like this is the idea, or part of the idea of a 3D object.
2) Why is there no true 3D rectangle objects, only cubes (spheres, pyramids, etc.)? Can you scale the cube into a 3D rectangle, if so how?
I cropped a photo unevenly, and then added a stroke, but the stroke isn't coming up evenly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have eraser tool trimmed all round an item I wish to take out to another photo, so lets say I have a car, round its edge is now an 8 pixel border of transparency, car within, road scene outside, I click the car and get parts of the picture both sides of the erased border , I just want all of the car, or alternatively I click outside the erased border and get bits of the road scene but also bits of the car.
I have tried contiguous on and off, select all layers on and off, different wand tolerances, various combinations,...have I overlooked one that I can wand the road scene and it will select all of it up to the gap around the car ? I can then expand selection a couple of pixels and delete out the road scene.
So far I am left with carefully picking my way around the middle of the border with the straight line selection tool and erasing chunks away that way. Having taken ages to go round the edge of a complex shape , to have no option but to repeat the path with the stright line tool is a pain. I use a variety of brush sizes/settings and quickmask mode to initially select out the item. I should have used the lassoo tool then inverted selection, it doesnt allow for a variety of hardness in one selection and you cant sew what exactly you have got, unlike a pink edge.
Its simple stuff like this that I hope Pshop after many years would have a tool for, as well as all the luxuries/gimmicks.
Can anyone advise how I can draw (from scratch) a 6 sided shape.
I cant post an image on here (as I'm a newbie to this forum its going to be hard to explain without an image)
Superman Logo
and then rather than a point at the bottom imagine a flat extra line (so it then has 6 sides rather than 5)
I can make a 6 sided shape no problem, but it always has equal length sides when I first produce it,
So I goto
Transform>skew
(as I would image I could change its shape with) it just never looks right.
I take it I either want to drag the corners in and out or to perhaps input the details of size/length/angles etc (but I imagine this will take too long).
It is even possible to make this image in 1 go?
when I apply a boarder the image prints with a boarder on two sides only. What would cause this and how do I rectify the issue.
