I'm not sure what settings I must have accidentally changed, but for some reason when I try to apply certain filters to an image (any of the "sketch" options for example) my image is changed to look like a negative. ...all if the lights and darks are reversed.
I don't know what I can change back to keep this from happening and it's keeping me from using a lot of these great options.
I have a black silhouette, and I want to lay a large headline over it so that the type is black when it's over the white background and changes to white as it moves over the black silhouette. The edges of the silhouette cut through the middle of a couple of the letters, so I can't do this letter-by-letter. I think there must be a simple way to do this that begins with rasterizing the text (which is the same as "create outlines" in Illustrator, right?)

The error does not occur with straight segments. The REVERSE command does not work, because it will change the direction of the entire polyline. In fact, the reverse command does not even recognize and arc.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am applying Artistic filters to an image in Photoshop. Some of the filters are turning the image into a black and white image, for example, the "torn edges filter." And it then does not seem possible to change that layer into a colored layer. Other filters, such as "glass" leave the image its original color. Is it possible to use the torn edges filter without turning the image black and white?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have hardly ever used filters for any of my work as I have preferred using Xara's native tools and effects to get what I wanted. But recently, I was inspired by some animation work which used backgrounds painted in Photoshop. They used a lot of textures which enhanced the look of the animation and so I thought I'd try to simulate it within Xara.
It works very well and I can export it as a PSD retaining the layers and Alpha channel. But here come my questions.
1. How can I remove the two Alien Skin demo plugins as I already have the full versions.
2. Why don't the native Photoshop plugins--Artistic, Sketch, etc.--seem to work?
In CS3 you could change something to make all filters act like smart filters, even though they won't. I found this worked very well, now I have CS4 and would like to do the same but can't remember what to do to make it work.

Is there any way to set photo settings to a shape, have the shape apply as a filter when over an image.
Ie make a rectangle shape, set it to 50% transparent, and focus -50 contrast +50 brightness +20 then have these effects the photo below
I know I can do this with cloning the image and then create an interesting shape - but this is then fixed to that location over the image -
I want to be able to set these properties to the shape, and then move anywhere over the image
(basically like a piece of frosted glass, placed over a photo. - the glass effects what you see of the photo not just colour but also focus..., but you can move it around)
I downloaded and installed GIMP 2.8.8 in Windows XP. The Filters menu option shows only Repeat last, Re-show last and Reset all filters.Nothing else in there. Where are the filters?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to GIMP. I've used Adobe Photoshop for years an years and no longer have access to the license. So I've been giving GIMP a test drive for a little while. I'm confused as to why when I apply a filter to my image or layer it changes the color to B/W or grayscale? I'm sure this is a relatively easy fix, but most filters I'm using don't have many options and I can't seem to apply the filter "as is". It always changes my whole graphic to grayscale. I am working on a dormitory project and need to provide a required light and ventilation schedule. I have figured out how to create a schedule for each level, but I want to isolate only the Dormitories and the Kitchenette (weed out all the other rooms such as corridor, elevator, storage, toilets, showers, stairs, trash, electrical, etc.).
I tried using seclusion filters, but there are too many items to exclude and cannot fit them all into the 4 filter categories. I am trying to just get the rooms that begin with 'D' and 'K'. I tried providing the variable 'Begins With' for D and in the next line 'Begins With' K, but then nothing shows up.
Is there a way to provide information to the filter that would allow it to show only rooms beginning with D AND K? I cannot seem to get it to work. I have been playing around with separation values within one filter category (i.e. 'Begins With' D, K) but apparently you cannot add multiple variables within one of the filter items.
I tried opening the images that I applied lightroom filters on, and the images did not change at all, though when I go to lightroom the filters are present. Does that mean that lightroom filters only work inside lightroom? Is there a way to save the photos with the filter(s) applied?

This happens whatever type of file I'm working on, and it doesn't matter whether I'm working in layers, a flattened image or a fresh image that's completely unedited and am using the background layer.

I use Photoshop CS6 Extended with the Creative Cloud membership, and just recently updated to version 13.1.1 x64. I believe this may be related, as the plugins worked before the update and nothing else has changed.

The only filters that I am able to select out of the entire list are
- Blur
- Noise
- Sharpen
- Stylize
- Other
Everything was working just fine the other day. All the filters had shown up. My work is in RGB mode 16 bit. Everything is set to what it was when it was working.
I've noticed that the Filters menu lacks many of the bundled CS5 filters e.g. the Filters | Artistic menu. By adding the CS5 Plugins directory as an Addition plugins folder in Preferences, they return, though some plugin is causing a VC++ Runtime error, but loading proceeds and the CS5 filters are present.
Is this by design? Are the remaining filters being delivered in an update, or have they been dropped?

For instance: artistic, brush strokes, distort, others are black and I can use them, such as charpen, blur, noise, stylize. I've tried everything, and have also reinstalled. Patches are up to date. These filters used to work.
