Apr 1, 2011If I have project properties set to anything but the default, I am unable to scrub through a clip when in clip mode if the clip has the second icon indicator, as shown in the screen grab below. This second icon (double diagonal frames) does not appear immediately. Before it appears, I can scrub in clip mode, but after it appears, I cannot. What that icon represents? My video files are from Canon HV20 (m2t 1440x1080) and my project properties match them.
I have a suspision that it has something to do with proxy files, and that once the proxy file is made, I lose clip scrubbing.
I just tried turning off smart proxy, and wouldn't you know it, I can scrub in clip mode.
I restarted X4 and clip scrubbing is fine. I enabled Smart Proxy, and clip scrubbing doesn't work again.

Project target file is on a 500GB WD Blue.
I have ripped a Blue Ray DVD as an .m2t, at an average bit rate of about 18.5 Mb/sec, with a resulting file size of over 16GB. Needles to say this file bogs the machine when not running the proxy. When I finish a session and close the program, the proxy file is gone the next time I open the project. The same thing happens when the machine goes to sleep with the project open. I have to either slog through working directly on the project without the proxy while it slowly rebuilds, or wait a couple of hours for the rebuild to complete.
Any way to stop the file from being deleted? I went to power options and selected never, but the next day it was gone again.
Another thing would be to increase the speed of the proxy creation, as it only uses about 20% of the CPU. Better to get it done faster... I have tried raising the priority of the process to high with little if any change.

Sep 20, 2013Photoshop/Bridge prevents deleting files. After I'm done with a job I store it on the server then try to delete the folder or files I've finished from my desktop. No can do.
I found I have to shut down Photoshop and Bridge then I can move the stuff into trash.

Nov 14, 2013I'm creating a travel-brochure. Initially it was a tri-fold but now it turns out that I need more space hence, I need to go up to the four-fold which covers a legal-sized page of 8.5 x 14, as opposed to the standard 8.5 x 11.
However, the added three inches to the canvas size was added on either side of my project when I really want everything to the left margin with the 3 inches left over on the right, which would be characterized by an extra flap or fold.
Now I have a lot of layers and elements going on which have not been flattened. So I thought that if I highlighted everything by clicking on each layer with the control button depressed when upon finishing I could just drag the entire "project" to the left of center. NOPE.
A message states, " layers are locked and cannot blah blah" something to that effect.
I tried not pressing on the background layer and then clicking the rest becaue I did a test run in a new project by throwing up a bunch of layers and when I clicked on the four layers leaving the background layer not clicked, everything moved together.
So I tried that, but it still didn't work in my main one. A possible theory as to why it's not is that there are layers of my images that have that little spray can icon on the bottom right corner (AI) I believe? These are like jpegs, so when I want to manipulate them, I have to open them up in another project; cut up the image or whatever, then flatten, then cut and paste back into my main project.
So do I flatten my current project first, then move it over, then unflatten?
How can I shift my project to the left of center by still retaining the layers etc..

Jun 3, 2012Photoshop CS6 (64 bit/ Windows 7) installed and ran perfectly. On second and subsequent runs, I get the Windows message "Could not open a scratch file becausethe file is locked, you do not have nevessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the 'Properties' command in Windows explorer to unlock the file." The message does not specify which file is locked or by whom.I run as administrator, and this is the first program I run - only system programs should be running in the background. Tried PCMag TaskPower, which supposedly provides a list of all locked files and allows you to force an unlock, but could not ID any possible culprits.

May 19, 2012I installed Photoshop CS6 beta on my Mac, OS 10.6.8. Once I purchased and went to install CS6, the installer informed me to uninstall the beta version of Photoshop, but didn't say how, or that there was a catch. I went and uninstalled Photoshop CS6 beta by dragging it to the trash. OOPS! - now the release version won't install, and I can't find anything on the Adobe website other than private messages from Adobe employees to specific users with the same problem as to how to rectify the issue.
Aside from venting my frustration at a situation I (and others have found ourselves in that could have been prevented by a little better planning and installer design.

Try to use them today, the register now/later screen won't load properly (blank screen) so I can't select either option and can't use the apps. We usually "register later" without issue whenever it appears.

Nov 30, 2012NB: I'm using the word 'register' in the printer's sense, i.e 'correctly aligned'.
I frequently edit multi-layered maps, in which each layer must be precisely registered (to the exact pixel) with the canvas. In older versions of PSE, when I've wanted to import layers from another file, I would turn off 'Maximise' mode in the Window menu, and drag the imported layers from one image onto the other. By pressing the SHIFT key at the same time, the new layers would be precisely registered on the new canvas in the same relative position they were on the old canvas (if the images were different sizes, the old canvas would be centred on the new one).
In PSE10 there is no 'Maximise'mode, so I use the 2-up option in the Arrange menu. However, pressing the SHIFT key doesn't seem to work any more, and the new layers don't come up in their original position. Apart from manually lining up the layers, I can't find a way to register them. The various 'Align' options aren't useful for this, as they re-calculate the centre of the layer based on its content. I need the layer to be aligned as it was on the old canvas, whatever the content of the layer.

GIMP :: Plugin Doesn't Register Properly
Mar 3, 2013I just wrote a very specific python plugin for someone who uses Gimp on OSX. The plugin doesn't appear in her menus so the installation may not be correct.
1) are there accurate instructions to install python plugins somewhere (preferably in the user's Gimp profile)? Is there a need to set some "executable" flag on the file (and if so how)?
2) in case the plugin doesn't register properly due to some syntax error, is there a way to check that out? On Linux one would start Gimp form a terminal, on Windows I believe gimp-console does it, but hat is the equivalent on OSX?
3) can some knowledgeable OSX user test that my plugin works correctly (PM me a mail address where I can send the plugin)

Jun 7, 2011I have code that works on some computers but not on others, all running AutoCAD Civil3D 2010. The line of code that fails is: (set1 newldrstyle (vlax-invoke mldrdict 'addobject MLS_Name "AcDbMLeaderStyle"))
The error message is: Error: AutoCAD.Application: AcRxClassName entry is not in the system registry
I am assuming that the class name it cannot find is AcDbMLeaderStyle. On my computer (which runs the code successfully) I do have an entry for AcDbMLeaderStyle in the registry. I'll be at the site where the computers that cannot run the code are located tomorrow to check if they are perhaps missing this registry entry.
They have already tried both a repair install and an uninstall/reinstall, didn't fix the problem If it turns out that the AcDbMLeaderStyle entry is missing, is there a way to "re-register" the classes?

Mar 23, 2014I accidentally resume my photo editing from the "folder" location instead of the "collection" location. So now when I go back to my collection, none of the virtual copies and PSD files created are there. The physical folder location has more files than the collection because of the extra PSD files.
I even tried to "Import" from the same folder location to see if LR would pickup the new virtual copies and PSD files. But the crazy thing is LR does not register any "new photos".

Sep 17, 2011I just downloaded the trial version of paintshop pro x4. It worked for a while but the opacity sliders were extremely slow to respond. I thought this was my main problem but now every time I open the program it takes me to the register screen. When I register the screen goes white and nothing happens. If I close it the whole program closes. I have three emails confirm me for registering so I don't know why the screen pops up anymore... I was very happy to have more 16bit capabilities.

I noticed that they all talk about Lisp Routines and I have no knowledge of using them. Is that the only way to go or can I use another route? Another one was the Sheet Set Manager but I don't think that this is exactly what I am looking for...
Photoshop :: Editing Low-res Proxy Than Applying Changes To High-res
Mar 1, 2012I'm developing one continuous image for a large wall that will be seen from about 1-2 feet viewing distance. It has to be about 100 dpi. My image is currently 21,600 x 8100 pixels at 8 bits CMYK. It may get bigger. I don't have to do much manipulation, but a lot of it is using brushes and the smudge tool.
2 issues:
1) I have a 12-core Mac Pro with 24GB RAM. The smudge tool is sloooooow when working on this image (like one smudge at max brush size takes 15-20 seconds to take effect).
2) IS there a "warp mesh" tool that I can use in place of the smudge tool?
Is there a way for me to edit a lower-resolution version of this image, then apply the changes I made to the high-res version? then I can use the smudge and brush tools and finessé my work without the machine bogging down, and the imagery will look correct. I'm looking for a way to use these tools more in real time while working with this big image.
